They didn't say end all social distancing on 21st June, that is what people wanted to hear and the media ran with it. They said no earlier than 21st June, very different. I never thought things would happen on 21st June as it was the earliest these things could have been considered and I am sure they will be done in stages even when they are done. They are dammed if they do dammed if they dont with furlough, if things cannot open at once, or like the aviation industry which won't just bounce back and they completely stopped furlough people would be outraged (and rightly so)
“An end to all social restrictions” to me this 100% refers to social distancing. You can’t have “normal life” whilst remaining 2 metres apart from people. We now know these things will probably be around for at least another year despite vaccines being heralded as the big solution here. It’s not enough that the nhs is no longer overwhelmed and the vulnerable are protected... so yes they have moved the goalposts.

I have 3 outdoor reservations booked and also a trip to the zoo. I'm no longer fearful of the virus and just want to enjoy my family and my life again.
Also just to add that I like my nandos as hot as possible

Your thoughts seem to insinuate things about people by the language you use and mention of narrative and wake up.
Because that’s how I feel about COVID restrictions, as is what this thread is about. I do feel people need to wake up to realise the government has consistently changed the goalposts and will continue to do so. Is that me saying COVID is a hoax and invented solely for control? No. Is it me saying they have handled it appallingly and can’t be trusted to continue to dictate our lives to us? Yes.

Regardless, your dislike for my thoughts doesn’t allow you to want to remove them from the platform. I don’t like many opinions here but I’m not telling people to have them elsewhere.

Boris can give my two weekly free tests to someone else as I will not be taking them. We have nearly five million people on waiting lists who are actually ill and need help and they want to spend billions giving healthy people multiple tests a week even if they have been jabbed twice. He can get lost with his Operation Moonshot idea Cummings gave him, but using a different name for it.

To protect others transmitting what could be an asymptomatic transmission and stop a chain of transmission and prevent another lockdown?

It’s not about YOU it’s about protecting others. No one knows why some people are more susceptible than others. My 43 year old work colleague who is fit and healthy was hospitalised twice and off work for months with long covid, I don’t want that and I’m sure no one else does either.
Shit happens. I know a 46 year old who was nearly killed by a cold which caused sepsis a few years ago. Their life only returned to normal after a heart/lung transplant.

I think people have lost their individual ability to assess their risk and take responsibility for it. The government have been manipulating people with their messaging because they know that.

Personally (at the age of 45 with no health conditions) I'm willing to take the risk. If it makes me ill or kills me then them's the breaks. I enjoyed countless meals out and three foreign holidays last year which were absolutely glorious because it was stupidly cheap and there was no-one there. Flying was a breeze as well.

You have to take joy where you can in life as tomorrow could be your last day. There is no point spending it cowering behind the virtual sofa. Sure, there will be plenty who have the opinion that they will take no risk as they don't want to end up in a box, but all they are really doing in choosing a different size of box.

Had the most lovely morning in the garden with a few of my family members. It’s been so long since I watched my baby cousins just playing together. It makes such a difference to my mood🤩 it’s sad that we can’t hug but for the sake of a few more months I’m just happy to be able to see them again!

And therein lies the problem “I want to be able to go wherever I please”. Well don’t we all, but we’re in a global crisis. You don’t want to be vaccinated. You don’t want to be tested. You’re the person who does no work in the group project but still feels entitled to the grade. Conspiracy theorists have caused untold harm regarding the vaccines and I won’t be engaging with this topic, or you any further.
We’re hardly in a crisis in this country. The NHS isn’t overwhelmed (it never was in my opinion, but that’s another story), the most vulnerable have been vaccinated (yes, are still waiting for their second) and deaths/hospitalisation are way down. After a year of pretty much being in a open prison I totally echo the fact that PinkFong wants to do whatever the hell they want. We’ve all done what was asked, the curve has been well and truly flattened, now let’s all just get back to normal, for the love of God, enough is enough.

“Patients could wait two years for vital operations because of the 'truly frightening' backlog caused by the Covid pandemic, the former boss of the NHS has warned“

this is shocking. they’ve failed so many who will end up losing their lives because of this level of neglect.

Went to drop off Easter eggs at my nieces house tonight for her little girls. They both ran straight outside and threw their arms around me(they're 7 and 9) then panicked because they shouldn't have done that. I didn't mind. I hugged them back.

Unfortunately, it's a fact of life that they will die eventually anyway. I think op would rather spend time with them rather than miss out on being with her gran while she is alive and able to enjoy her company . I'm sure they are cautious to minimise spread.
It is perfectly acceptable for the elderly to have carers visiting.

I think people often try to apply hindsight to the current situation.
The willingness to conform to the new 'rules' and grass up anyone not conforming has been surprising, I think.
When the period of the Nazi Government is studied at gcse / a level it focuses on gradual aspects that should have been taking as warning signs.

Suicide rates ( and people who feel Suicidal but don't,
and therefore aren't part of the statistics) are sadly too
high anyway
Spot on in every point.

I keep hearing the scoffing at the holocaust comparison, but these people must have no idea how it started and only know the ending otherwise they would get it.

it started with people being manipulated into disliking another lot of people, they were told those people were germ carriers, disgusting people with dirty ways that could harm them, if it wasn't for those people they would have a better life. it happened over time. If they had started grabbing them and loading them onto trains those other people would have been horrified and not gone along with it. But because they had been manipulated into hating them they not only didn't care, they actually turned these people in.

This is exactly what is going on now they are dividing us. People believe they are doing their civic duty by reporting those apparently doing the wrong thing. They believe as the German people believed, they are helping society and the greater good. they are angry at those protestors rather than the governments and the media. I have seen many people say "these people ( protesters, unmasked, unvaccinated) need locking up, rounding up and put on an island or in prison. Those people are doing exactly the same as the German people manipulated by the Nazi government who also controlled the media. strangely it took Nazi German a few years to get to this point, it's taken us one year, one year!

Those of you who are being made to believe you are the heroes of this story are in for a shock, just like those German citizens who also thought they were the heroes.

Maybe you will believe this lady who is a holocaust survivor

Could you forgive yourself if you gave them covid and died?
They are both vaccinated. But, as I previously said, I’m not going to sit and wait a year until I’m allowed to see them. We went there for Christmas, and I’ve seen them every week. I also won’t be stopping seeing them either!!!

If her Mum and Grandmother knows the risk though and have chosen to take that risk then is that ok?

I've seen plenty of people wasting away and pining to see family who are refusing to see them to keep them safe, whilst meanwhile telling me they all they want is to see their family.

We need to ask our elderly relatives what they want and respect their decsion, because if they did pass away not from covid then we'd also never forgive ourselves then either.

I think it's ridiculous they want perfectly healthy people confined to their homes i thought the whole point was to protect the NHS if people aren't taking up a hospital bed what's the problem ,even China with their strict regime can't keep it out and we're only at the start of the long and winding road.

I can't help but feel it's been a bit of a waste of time being vaccinated as yes I took it up through work (I'm Group 2) and was so excited at the prospect that this was the route out.... but now it appears not to be and they're saying hospitalisations will go up in the summer?! When is enough enough? When will we see this as just another virus in the circulation? I know that I can't waste life much more like this, and yes to me it is wasted life. My grandparents final year of life was lonely and wasted. My mum died young so I do want to be able to live my life and not with this constant moving of goalposts by bumbling Boris.

The goalposts HAVE NOT CHANGED. We are following the roadmap and so far nothing has changed, they have introduced more tests IF YOU WANT IT. It is not compulsory, but I think it would give me peace of mind to have a test before indoor socialising. It is not in the governments bloody interest to keep is in lockdown forever, they gain absolutely nothing from it, they want the economy open and money flowing and to stop paying wages by furlough. I can't understand the mindset that our government or any wants this.
They have changed them though? They said all social restrictions end by 21st June... I really don’t think vaccine passports, testing, track and trace and even SD and masks will have gone by then? It’s clear when they extended furlough this isn’t going to all be over June 21st (I knew it wouldn’t be, but that’s why people are saying goalposts have been moved).

They told people vaccines would get us back to normal. It hasn’t and now there is a new expectation alongside continuation of all the others. Some mandatory, some not. If you don’t see that as changing goalposts there isn’t really anything else I can say to you. To each their own.

Why are they saying the modelling shows a third wave? Also should they really be saying this. We are all exhausted from this - we have put our lives on hold for over a year and done what we thought we could to help get out of this. Told the vaccine would help. All of this to be threatened with a third wave?! Just feels unnecessary right now - we don’t need that beating us around the head, people need to live their life now.

Do you feel the same if you made family/friends really sick/dead by passing it on?
I think this is such a slippery slope though... there have been viruses and bacterial illnesses transmitting among humans since the dawn of time. When we the last time you felt worried about asymptotically killing someone from flu, gastric bugs or even a cold? My little brother was off school for 6 months from glandular fever.. we didn’t go to the school and demand to know who gave it to him?! I understand the need to manage the extend to which an illness impacts the nhs but basically holding everyone personally responsible for illness is too much. You will ALWAYS risk passing something on to others, and unfortunately that is just a risk of being human.
