We've had the best news!

My Dad was rushed to hospital last April with Covid, he was initially on a ventilator for a month, then had to go back on for another week when he had another dip. We nearly lost him 3 times, Mum got called to go and say her goodbyes one night as he was so weak they didn't think he'd last the night. He had a tracheostomy and has been PEG fed since July as his vocal cords were so damaged from the ventilator. Since August he's been recovering in a care home.

Last week they finally removed the tracheostomy and next week HE'S COMING HOME 🥳🥳

It will be exactly a year to the day the ambulance took him to hospital

A few years ago I was displaying cervical cancer symptoms. Abnormal bleeding, bleeding after sex etc. I asked my GP for a smear test. I was told that I wasn’t allowed one and it wasn’t my time to have one. Even if they did the smear, the lab would throw the test in the bin. I assume that this is down to costs, female health is far down the list of priorities.
It makes me so angry that we don’t test people with symptoms of diseases but are now chucking money at testing perfectly healthy people for a virus that will not affect them.

Edited to add - smear tests are also not offered to under 25 year olds due to false positives. Funny that false positives on PCR tests are accepted though 🤨

Worst thing about this whole pandemic has been how fucking bitchy and judgemental everyone has become, and how we don’t seem to be able to engage with society like we used to.

if you don’t want a vaccine, “well I don’t want you near me/I’m glad you’re not my family/do you not care that you’ll kill your parents”
(I know I’ve questioned the vaccine myself, I’m almost in fear when I’m giving those thoughts a voice, because I’m immediately called an anti vax nut job, it’s sinful to voice that you’re concerned about it, but then again I myself have questioned why HCW wouldn’t take it, so I can’t talk, I’m open to hearing why, so thank you to whoever answered that in the past for me)

if your neighbours have family over, fingers are twitching to ring the police, if you don’t want a LF test you’re selfish and you shouldn’t be allowed take part in society anymore.

There is so much positivity about going to spoons for a fry up 😐 but question any of the rules were being told, show frustration or anxiety around things and as a whole the reaction will be ***I’ll kill a bitch with my tongue or keyboard***

unpopular opinion alert 🚨
CT’s like new order / bill gates / microchips / 5G I have no interest in, a lot of us don’t, but reading back on conversations, around our human rights, our rights to accept or refuse these new restrictions or medications, is it a bad conversation to have 🤷‍♀️

when did we become so closed off to other opinions that we slam the door in other peoples faces when our thoughts don’t match, and I’m the first to direct the conspiracy stuff to the conspiracy thread when it’s just upsetting members, especially if it seems like a bit of a movement to impose opinions on others, but there is a middle ground that is an interesting discussion.

just my opinion. 😕 sorry for the ramble

Could you forgive yourself if you gave them covid and died?
Dont be so afraid of dying you forget to live. I’ve seen this happen to people, locking themselves away fearful that covid is going to come to their door and kill them- that’s no way to live either. Removing themselves from family.
People have died unable to see family, that haunts those left behind as well.
either way the whole thing leaves a scar.
At 94, a long life, I would rather see my family and grandchildren and experience love and connection, even if it could kill me, then strive to live longer and die in isolated hell, alone and miserable.

“Whatever the hell I want”?

You’re making out like I want to go round kicking puppies or beating up old ladies.

I want to be able to go wherever I please without having to have a vaccine in order to do so. People have lost their absolute minds

You’re saying no one is advocating coercion. What exactly do you call it then? Can’t go to X if you haven’t had Y.

People are admitting to getting it because they want to go on holiday. Or hug their grandchildren. THAT is coercion.

Slippery slope. The good old “at first they didn’t come for me....” scenario
And therein lies the problem “I want to be able to go wherever I please”. Well don’t we all, but we’re in a global crisis. You don’t want to be vaccinated. You don’t want to be tested. You’re the person who does no work in the group project but still feels entitled to the grade. Conspiracy theorists have caused untold harm regarding the vaccines and I won’t be engaging with this topic, or you any further.

This isn’t my ‘take’ on it, this is fact. Facts that can be found quite easily.

22 December 2020:

76,193 hospital beds occupied of which 14,902 had a positive Covid test.

22 December 2019:

90,085 hospital beds occupied.

So, around 14,000 less beds occupied on the same day in a “deadly pandemic”. Please clarify how hospitals were “overwhelmed”?!

Looking at December 2020 the average bed occupancy was 76,000 compared to an average of 96,000 in December 2019. So 20,000 less. Yet the NHS was still “overwhelmed”?!

Why let the truth get in the way of a good story ey!
How can anyone possibly think that posting stats about hospital bed occupancy is “facts” and “not their take on it” is genuinely beyond me. You have a very surface level understanding and seem totally oblivious to reality. Add in factors like staff sickness/isolation and ratio of care patients required (6:1 to prone) and you have quite a different picture.

Anyway that is the last time I’m being baited by a CT. Why they’ve come over here en mass to be so antagonistic is beyond me, moreso that they then post on the CT thread what they’ve posted here and how it’s “great fun”. It’s just sad and does their cause no favours, I can see why so many of us who have been with this thread for nearly a year and use it for support stay clear now.

Feeling really emotional.
Had a lovely few hours at the seaside with my hubby and the kids. It was absolutely freezing but we still had fish and chips along the seafront and stopped off at our favourite ice cream parlour on the way home. The kids didn't care that the waves were crashing they ran straight on to the beach and in to the sea fully clothed. Their smiles and laughter were priceless. I knew I'd missed this but guess I never really knew just how much we all needed this day out.

It's only two weeks to flatten the curve, it's only until the NHS can cope, it's only a test, it's only a track and trace, it's only a vaccine, it's only a vaccine passport.

When is it enough for you?

Quoting myself because my Dad is coming home today! I'm so excited and emotional.

Also a little annoyed as my brother in law has invited the local press 🙄 I was going to send pics after if they're interested so today could be a private day as think it will be overwhelming enough

This honestly makes me so uncomfortable. I know people seem to think this is just another step towards 'normal' but to me it's just another angle of control. We should have zero need for testing if vaccines work the way they claim they do. How many more steps are they going to ask of us? Every time you get close to 'normal' they change the goalpost again. Lockdown is ending on so and so date, but then it isn't. Then when we are finally released and told we can do A, B and C, it is then our fault when cases go up because of A, B and C. Have the vaccines and we can end lockdown! Oh but now that you've had it, lets start mass testing on a truly unbelievable that we should have been doing a year ago, but have suddenly only developed the capability for now, at this very moment?! Oh and aswell, we'll add some passports into the mix and maybe also new vaccines yearly because of variants.

We can't close the world for a year and vaccinate everytime there is a new disease, there will always be a new disease. Haven't you all had enough? How much more are you willing to accept before realising the government cares none for our freedom? I honestly can't believe people are still buying into this narrative that they are on our side. Wake up.

Do you feel the same if you made family/friends really sick/dead by passing it on?
Oh please. Pre covid it was just accepted that people die from viruses, infections etc that were passed on by other people. There was none of this guilt tripping, it was just a fact of
life.
Viruses have always been a danger to the elderly and immune compromised. If Doris aged 93 died from a virus in 2018 we didn’t blame Dave who went into work spreading around his cold, we didn’t blame Sharon who wanted to get her nails done but had a slight sniffle. It was just life.

No one has advocated coercion for the vaccine. However if you’re choosing not to have it, while benefiting from being kept safer from the herd immunity generated by the rest of us, then there has to be other measures in place. They also may not suit you. That’s tough luck I’m afraid 🤷🏻‍♀️ You generally can’t walk around in society doing whatever the hell you want regardless of the consequences 😂

Well I'm certainly not going to be scared like I was last year when things started to open back up. I hardly went anywhere and deffo didnt take advantage of the eat out to help out (its been over a year now since I last went out for a meal!)
I cant wait for the small things now. Sitting in a beer garden with my mum, popping to Primark to stock up on essentials, having a charity shop rummage etc
I can't believe how the numbers are dropping now!
I'm seriously considering booking Steps tickets for November (please dont judge 😂 I'm 34 and Steps were my life when I was younger) 😂
The venue is currently a vaccine centre. I just cant get my head round the fact that maybe in a few months time it could be packed with people at concerts!

Could she forgive herself if she had stayed away and one of them passed away without her having seen them recently. She’s a grown woman doing what is right for her and her family!

I agree - if I am testing twice weekly there’s very little incentive to wait, apart from the fear of nosey neighbours!
If I'm vaccinated and my parents are too(all waiting for 2nd jab) and we're testing twice a week then I'm afraid I'll be going in their house and vice versa. I've been so cautious throughout this due to shielding but life needs to start again now. We can't carry on with restrictions and stopping peoples interaction with other humans

The goalpost hasn’t moved though? We are still fully on track for reopening as planned

If you are vaccinated I don’t believe you will need to do the testing but it is a way of helping manage mass gatherings for those who have not yet been vaccinated.

Of course we have all had enough. I want nothing more than to be able to go about my daily life without even thinking of covid but unfortunately we just aren’t there yet and if we want to socialise, precautions need to be taken until everyone is vaccinated.
The goalpost has moved. You don't tell people vaccines are the answer then suddenly say, oh but you still need to test, you still need masks, you still need to distance, you can't hug your family (but don't worry you can go to the pub!). You don't think it's at all suspicious that they told people they were the answer, then the VERY week before lockdown ends (the one that is supposedly the last ever) we have now suddenly developed the ability to mass test? Just because something isn't mandatory doesn't mean it isn't on a technicality. They've already said businesses can choose to require a customer's covid status aslong as it doesn't break equality laws. In addition, several people have reported that it has become a requirement in their workplaces to be tested. Just because something isn't 'law' doesn't mean it isn't mandatory by proxy. The testing isn't just about mass gatherings, that's the passports.

This isn't just about socialising, this is about people not being prisoners in their own homes. Do we start classing the supermarket as socialising now? Or your workplace and being able to feed your family or put a roof over your head without permission?
