I always believed he was the fixer!
I’m sorry - but based on what? There was no child abuse ring at Elm Guest House.
The stories from the likes of Carl Beech, have been discredited (as he has) - but the damage is done, as the made up stories circulate.

As for guest lists, do people really believe that people as vile as this, have guest lists? I’m all for a bit of gossip - but branding innocent people as abusers is well off.

there's no doubt carl beech was a fantasist however, I don't think that means there wasn't a cover up and I don't believe the landlady accidentally overdosed on insulin either, she was a life long diabetic and presumably knew how to manage her medication

But there was nothing discovered that was covered up. The police spent a fortune investigating these allegations, they would have been more than happy to fond something - to justify the money spent. There was no cover up.

I have read up on Elm Guest House, this evening. No child abuse ring - despite the ever circulating rumours (that were fuelled but the likes of Carl Beech).

Elms Guest House was raided by police in 1982, as it was found that the owners were allowing male prostitutes to use their guest house, to take their clients back to. They were charged with running a disorderly
The landlady, did not take an accidental overdose of insulin in 1990, it was deliberate - she committed suicide.

All of the above, does not link or uncover a child abuse ring - but was probably enough to sow some seeds for conspiracy theorists.

Sorry - thought I edited the above properly, to sort all the typos but it then missed a chunk out. It won’t let me edit it again, but hopefully it’s readable.

I’m sorry if I am coming across rather serious (spoiling the fun) on this topic, but it lies close to my heart. I have witnessed, via my job what these type of allegations can do to people - and I have witnessed some very disturbed individuals continue to make false allegations (with police putting in a lot of man power and expense, following them up), even though some of the allegations are quite ludicrous.
This takes the police away from investigating genuine cases, and ruins people’s lives.

Often, the victim of the false allegation is gay, or presumed to be gay. There is probably a bit of homophobia mixed in - in their attempts to make their allegations more believable.
It wasn’t that long ago, that many people would describe gay men, as abusers of children. This was widely believed in some areas (such as my parents generation), and usually went without challenge.

I actually can’t stand Cliff Richard, but have never happened across anything that makes me believe he is or was in a child abuse ring.
The Elm Guest House, Guest book - is now known as a hoax.
It’s up there with the rumours involving pop stars needing to have their stomach pumped and Freddie Starr eating hamsters.

bit long winded but I think it raises a few doubts
I have not read it all - but there are descriptions in the article that are not true, and it is old - with the rumours of the guest house being totally discredited after investigations.
I am sure they were both guilty of running a guest house that allowed male prostitutes to “entertain” their guests, but still, not a child abuse ring.
Chris Fay is all over this article, suggesting she was murdered, but he has been discredited. I would believe him, as much as I would believe Carl Beech. There is no evidence.

Male prostitution was pretty scandalous in 1982, and still was in 1990. In 2025, it’s probably looked on as a social issue (why some men are having to turn to sex work). Back then it was all News Of The World stuff.

Agreed.

I tend to take the view that he is naïve and repressed about his sexuality. Probably mostly for religious and generational reasons. Would I be all that *surprised* if something bad came out about him? Not really, but only because there are very few pop stars of any age, gender or sexuality where it would surprise me.

You can overdose on insulin even if you’ve taken it all your life. If you are getting older and have memory problems or are a serious piss artist you can forget you have taken one or more doses. Plus with what was going on, suicide is possible.

Agree. I think he is gay but probably celibate and has relationships which are essentially marriages which involve no sex. Plenty of heterosexual sexual marriages are the same. You would be amazed at the amount of couples who seek fertility treatment that medical staff strongly suspect don’t get pregnant because they have no sex.

Maybe he is asexual and just not interested in sex but wants a life partner? Who knows.

Unless something dodgy comes out it really is his business. I hate people who ‘out’ other people.
