Sorry to be this person, but I've seen and commented on other Christmas threads.

What sort of theme are people going for this year. Not that I mean people should have a new theme every year. I'm not an influencer. Sorry to make people sick in their mouths but I'm a colourful Christmas tree. Multi coloured tree lights in the lounge. Multi coloured 6 ft fibre optic in the dining room. Foil ceiling decs. Fairy lights round the doors. Tack city.

I love making my own home decorations too. Currently trying to get a Christmas quilt finished in time

Ooooh would love to hear more about your home made decorations.. I have been thinking about going foraging for evergreen leaves and red berries and stuff to make my own wreaths and table decorations

Good thread, Im going for silver and white theme (on a green tree) with warm lights same as the previous years as I refuse to buy a whole new different coloured set of decorations. I don't do lights around the window as the tree is in front of the lounge window but I have a wreath and a fireplace mantle and other ornaments etc dotted around the house.

Who are these people that have a whole new theme each year?! One of my favourite things about Christmas is getting all my decorations out that I've collected over the years, thinking about where I bought them and the memories that go along with all of them.

I bought my first house last year and so it was my first independent Christmas. Mum has a small fat tree which is always multicoloured and I just love! I inherited My dads taller skinnier tree when he passed away a couple of years ago (so there’s huge sentimental value for me there) and I went all out to make a woodland/animal theme, with a gold glittery stag head as a topper and switched up tinsel for a feather boa. I’m not gonna change my tree this year I don’t think, possibly pick up one or two different decs in the shops if I see them but overall it’ll stay as is.
I also have a beautiful home made wreath for my living room door that my aunt made me of purple/pink colours with white lights.
To finish off I have a small 3ft tree for outside the front door which has multicoloured baubles and multicoloured lights on it too, with a unicorn as the topper

I freaking love Christmas. I have a small house so a skinny fake tree, led lights (I hate doing the lights on the tree but its essential). I swap out my sofa blanket for a red and white christmas knitted one from Aldi and change my cushions over to Christmas ones. I have a red and white scandi looking felt bunting (actually two) which I hang along the curtain rail.

My general colour scheme is red, gold and white but I will deviate. None of my tree decorations really match. The last few years I have been trying to buy a decoration from every country I visit so my tree has something new and interesting and it brings back holiday memories. I've decorations from Norway, Hong Kong, Denmark, Austria, Hungary and the US amongst others.

Christmas is my all time favourite time of year and I love everything about it!! Real tree this year with white, green and red I think? I adore going to shops that go big with their decs range, I'm like a kid in a sweet shop. I love traditional but any tree makes me smile!! Local garden centres usually have good decs for anyone looking

Well this thread has cheered up my 2020!

I bought my house based on where I was going to put the Xmas tree.... (square bay window).

AND I am simultaneously reading this thread and watching Love Actually on the TV, whilst in bed with my fluffy dressing gown on and hot water bottle because it’s FREEZING.

Proper Xmas feels tonight

Decs wise - used to be big on fairy lights literally everywhere and bloody great artificial green swag thing up the stairs but the last few years pared back a bit (also got sick of it taking longer to go to bed turning them all off) sprigs of faux eucalyptus (ikea) which I cut up to fit my fireplaces and more candles.

Main tree usually real with warm white lights and silver/pearl/gold baubles. Strictly no tinsel.
But in family room have an Argos pop up tree which I love so much and have coloured lights on - though like a previous poster mentioned, hate the LED crap but I struggle to find the old fashioned ones that don’t burn my retinas.

And finally....I once was head of a department and my team shared an open plan office floor with another team. Who’s manager channelled Ms Trunchbull/Stalin and dictated they were not to put up any decorations till after 20th Dec or some nonsense, because she thought Christmas was ghastly and commercial....this pissed me off greatly. So guess what our side of the office did on 1st December? lit the place up like Chaplins.

At Christmas, the tackier the better is my view too. I like my christmas three to look like someone’s tripped and thrown a box of baubles at it I fill it full of tat from holidays, the uglier the better I do have warm white lights though. I have some colours fairy lights that go in my bedroom window and they are my favourite - proper ones, not those shitty red orange green and blue LED monstrosities. Blue flashing icicle lights are my Christmas nemesis though - absolutely hate them

I am hosting Christmas dinner for the first time this year, so I want to decorate my dining kitchen.. I think I might go for more scandi vibes in there, so I’m browsing Instagram and Pinterest at the minute. I might get a small real tree and try to keep it alive this year

I love Christmas and decorating the trees

We have a large flocked tree in lounge with loads of warm white lights (Christmas tradition for either my husband or myself to call the lights names as it’s an absolute ball ache to get them on the tree!) Pre lit is the way forward Decorated with white, silver and pearl baubles.

I used to have a Scandinavian theme but wanted to change it up.

Kitchen/Dinning room tree is a 6ft green tree one with coloured lights and loads of decorations I inherited when my grandparents died.

My family love this tree as they remember these decorations from when my mum was little and when we were little. Absolute 80’s dream! Every year I now get to buy an extra fun bauble which to be honest is way more fun than buying another white one

I do LOVE my fancy tree in the lounge but the kitchen tree feels like Christmas it’s lovely on Christmas Day when we are all sat at the table. Reminds me of simpler times and when the tins of quality street were actually tins full of sweets

Morning , love a bit of Christmas chat .

I’m a ‘Christmas threw up’ decorator during December, it’s like a grotto. I always have twinkly lights up as I find they brighten up the long autumn winter nights but I go extra at Christmas .

This year though, I’m aiming for a Scandinavian look ; tree in a silver bucket or wicker basket with warm white lights and cream or white decorations and not too many either, bit like this.

I’m the same as that! I have decorations from my first Christmas etc or ones that have been in the family even longer. Usually get a couple of new decorations every year if I see something or it’s a present but that’s it

I’m big into sewing so most of my homemade decorations are bunting or table runners. There are loads of free patterns online. Also love a homemade fabric advent calendar!

None sewing wise I’m planning on going down to the beach to collect shells and going to make a wreath with them. Am hoping I can acquire a wreath shaped piece of plastic/wood I can glue them onto

Love this! I am not a theme person at all, I love having the same decs every year and the tradition and familiarity that comes with putting them up. My mum’s tree still has things my siblings and I (all now 30+) made at nursery and I buy a new special decoration for it every year, usually from an independent shop or market, or if I’ve travelled close to the festive season I’ll pick one up.

I don’t have a tree in my flat but I go all out on the fairy lights... Loved the mention of the retro ones with coloured petals, might have to hunt them down. I tend to pick up a few bits in the post-Christmas sales for the next year, you can normally get some bargains in department stores in particular.

This is exactly how I do my decorations!! Literally looks like Santa has puked all over the house and I just buy more and more every year. I just love it, I have no kids but growing up our house was the same as I do it now and I guess that's why I like it. Its cosy, homely and definitely brings all those magical childhood memories back!!

Our tree is 2 years old and I want a bigger and fatter one but husband says no so I pray this one breaks this year

I am desperate to put my Decorations up right now and have been since August but I try to wait until around a week and a half after my birthday (6th November) and I couldn't give a shit what anyone says about it .

I also do my Christmas shopping early but nothing gets wrapped until the decorations are up. I sit there in front of the tree, hot chocolate in hand and christmas music playing and I am in my element wrapping all the gifts I've carefully picked out for our family members and then when they're wrapped I panic thinking I haven't got enough or what I have got is shit, hahaha.

We always used to have real Christmas trees when we we children. Since then, I have alternated between real and fake ones. In December 2018, my partner bought a rather splendid fake tree, but at the same time I mangaged to find a lovely real tree for £5 - it was on special offer. But it was so sad to see a perfectly healthy tree, put outside to be recycled.
In recent years, I have hunted around charity shops for Christmas decorations. Not because Of financial reasons, I just enjoy mooching around charity shops - always have done.

Why have I not thought of charity shops for decs?! That’s a great idea!! I get most of my decs from The Range only because I the prices in garden centres etc are so eye watering haha. We got a second tree this year (a 6ft fake tree, it was £2 in the sale in Wilko down from £60!!!) and I’ve got all the decs from The Range for under £40.

I’m really simple when it comes to decorations usually because I’m lazy, a small Christmas tree and maybe a piece of tinsel however this year I would like to make more of an effort!

Where is good to buy Christmas decorations? Not keen on The Range personally. Also, have any of you ever made handmade Christmas cards? The Works have a range out already to make them yourself, I might do it!

Mmm I quite like sainsburys for xmas decs. But most of mine are from holidays, Christmas markets, and also monsoon do amazing ones too. But I got them mostly in the sale

I got my basic baubles from places like Asda, B&M etc and then every year buy a few special ones from garden centres ( they are great at xmas) or independent shops.

When I lived at home with my parents my mum always had a beautifully curated tree in gold and cream colours only, I loved it but knew once I had my own place/tree I’d want more traditional colours!

my theme is ‘woodland’ so I have lots of greens and reds and then lots of little tree decs like Robins, owls, squirrels, mushrooms etc. I absolutely love it, it’s my dream tree haha.

We have a silver and white theme too; also on a green tree! Got some gorgeous glass baubles a few years ago and just love how understated it looks.
