I've decided that nearly every penny of my October pay is going on Christmas 🧑‍ I cannot wait! I'm going to pick a place to go shopping and go crazy. I want to see how much I can get done in one weekend.

I've also decided I'm going to try and buy in store this year, rather than shop online for everything. That will be quite tricky because the deals online are so irresistible, and they don't stock stores like they used to. But I'm hoping it will help me capture some of the old memories of Christmas past

Or it will help me to realise that I need to stop being such a romantic and be grateful for modern services like next day delivery

One of my all-time abiding memories of cats and Christmas is the cat who jumped to the top of ours, probably 7 foot, and watched as it toppled on our guest. (She was unliked by all except my stepfather who she'd shagged more than once ). Animals know.

I thought the bit in brackets was about the cat and I was SO confused for a second. 🫢

For those with kids, I popped into The Works today they had lots of really nice Christmas books on their 10 for £10 offer. They had another shelf too but there was an old lady side eyeing me and I felt a twat taking pics.

Anyway, this is my selection. I got 5 and then another 5 non-Christmas related and I want to read them now they also had book advent calendars for a tenner I think, gruffalo, Mr Men, Peppa Pig, etc!

Looking for opinions - last November I went through a really tragic bereavement, and i am really dreading November this year but I absolutely love Christmas. I would like to put my Christmas Decorations up early in November to cheer me up and act as a distraction. Do you think this is too early and / or insensitive?

If I passed away I would hate to think my family would be worried about things like this, please do what makes you happy. Perhaps you could buy a really special bauble in memory of them, so they have pride of place on your tree every year 🩷

When we were in our lockdown covid era, the first Xmas during that period I bought a toilet roll tree Dec and an aubergine dec .... The bog roll to commemorate the year everyone panic bought the stuff, thinking it was the end of civilisation, and the dick emoji sign for just how F'D we all were with the whole mess! I still put them on the tree to remind myself how bizarre that period of our lives was and everything that went with it

I've booked a Christmas wreath making with my sister the first weekend in December, first time I've ever done anything like that. We're going to go straight to the pub after for festive drinks! Wreaths will probably end up being swung above our heads as we stumble home

That is £3.10 per mask! You can routinely buy these for less than £3.10 each plus it’s only 4 types of masks, three times over in a cheap thin box?! Urgh! Corporate greed knows no bounds.

I have a bit of a forlorn question, so please feel free to scroll past, but has anyone else ever been stuck in Christmas limbo, not sure if you should buy nice things?

We have a child, we want another, the stork is on strike and has been for a while, and the potential is dwindling. We held off buying nice stockings and sacks and reusable advent calendars as we wanted to wait until we could get them matching pairs. This year is the first year our little one is aware and excited and I don’t know what to do, whether to purchase the nice things just for them, keep to cheaper replaceable things they will likely refuse to give up, or buy two of everything like the saddest hoarder ever. What would you do?

It depends. I would ask myself:

1. Can you afford an extra of each nice thing now? If so, move to q2. If not, buy the nice things for the family you have now. Ideally, if possible, from a vendor that will still be selling the same things in the future.

2. Will it make you sad to know you have an extra put away if your family doesn't grow? If so, don't buy another. If not, buy another and put it away.

What I wouldn't do is put off buying nice things or using nice things based on a future maybe. This applies to anything. Don't save your best for anything. Use it.

I did an online one last year, I’ll try find the name of it. I picked an older guy around mid 70’s who had asked for some pjs. I bought him 2 pairs, a crossword book and some pens and a small box of chocs, and also a card. I didn’t spend much but hopefully it made his Christmas a little brighter

My mum only bought the tree on Christmas eve, wouldn't let us decorate and then refused to let us unpack it either. So when I moved out, I made sure to embrace the decorations and the spirit of it all. Hence I've got boxes of the stuff now
