Morning guysss. I need some advice.

I had metal braces when I was younger, didn’t wear my retainer, teeth went back to how they were.
So I decided to get invisalign. I had my consultation yday, I spoke to some of my friends about it. I would say 3/7 of my friends said it was a dumb idea, it’s a waste of money and my teeth are fine etc.

My teeth may be fine to some but I know how much happier I’d be if I did it and this is one of the main reasons I want to. My teeth definitely aren’t straight and they will only get more and more crooked because I didn’t wear the retainer.

My argument or way to justify it is - the invisalign will cost near £4000. I have much over double this in my savings as it stands, and I will still have way over double after I’ve paid for it.
The guy I’m talking to said it’s a silly idea but he is onboard because I have talked about how much happier it’ll make me. I was gonna go and pay for it this morning and I’m second guessing myself - should I get another consultation etc? But consultations everywhere are no cheaper than £50 so in my head it’s like … well am I gonna spend that much money on diff dentists just to find out it won’t be much less?? If you made it this far thank you. 😭 I just don’t know what to do
I’m the exact same, had braces when I was younger didn’t wear my retainer and now my teeth have moved back slightly and have thought about getting Invisalign! If I could afford it I would defo do it, so if you know you can afford it and it will make you happy go for it!

At the end of the day it's your money, and your own confidence and self esteem. If you feel that it will make you more confident, and you have the money there to spend and you want to spend it, then I don't see why what anybody else thinks should matter!

I have a friend who used invisalign and her teeth look amazing, she's so happy with them!

@xx3221 One of my lower teeth shifted a little after my retainer was thrown away and the orthodontist took a new mold and was able to mock up a retainer with a spring to straighten it out. Cost around $300-400. I’m not sure if they can do that for a whole mouth but it doesn’t hurt to ask!

I have heard about this but I'm not sure it'd work for me. My teeth are gonna take 6 months to straighten up, and my braces were taken off 3 years ago to the date.. I think they may have moved beyond that working now. How long after was that?

I don’t remember how much time passed after they were binned but the accident happened around six years after my braces came off.

@xx3221 if your teeth are an issue for you and you can afford it I say go for it. It is your body, your self confidence and your money. Not any of your friends.

We are just starting Invisalign for my oldest daughter, she goes to collect her first sets next week. She wasn't entitled to any NHS treatment as they said her teeth were not bad enough, she was devastated because her teeth are bad enough in her opinion. They are a little wonky and we can afford the treatment so for us it was a no brainer.

That said, have you looked at Smile Direct Club?

I’ve heard soooo many bad things about Smile Direct but I’ve heard like 3 good stories too. I don’t understand how it works without them taking X-rays etc? There’s essentially no dentist, they’re just sending aligners to you in the post. I would probably rather spend the extra to ensure I’m seeing a dentist

Bloody hell it's pissing down and the mental note I made myself this morning to take my umbrella into work was pointless because I've left it in my bloody car 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

@xx3221 If you can afford it and its want you want I'd definitely go for it. Its ok your friends saying its a waste of money but if it will make you happy or give you more confidence then it doesn't matter what they say.

Its started to rain here, I've baked my mini egg brownies and going to prep dinner soon although I fancy a cheeky McDonalds.😊

Thank you everyone. You are all right. It's my money and if i have the money, it only makes sense to do it. I'm going to pass by the Dentist on my way to the gym and pay for it :giggle:

@coconochanel those brownies sound delicious, I want to make some!

Fair enough! And we made the same decision too. I have a few friends who have had positive experiences with Smile Direct which is why we considered it. But ultimately the price difference wasn't worth it, we wanted the reassurance of an actual dentist that we could go and see if there were any issues.
