I’ve picked the true ginger boy
I posted on another thread, as I said there too, the sex/colour was just the only way to choose at this stage as they’re so tiny, I realise it’s not “important”, they’re not an accessory and there are no guarantees about personality. I have always loved seeing ginger cats though. Can’t wait!
Now to start preparing! Toys, food, litter and a tray, not sure about a collar … what am I missing?

My kittens loved the little mice (probably the cheapest toy ), a tunnel. Mine love their scratch post, I had a tiny one when they were kittens but now have two big ones and they are on it a lot of the time (they are 1.5yrs now). I also got a scratch post that is attached to the wall, one of mine uses that most often as she can stretch more, although she uses all of them, she’s the good one, the other still uses the chair or the bed even though I have 4 scratch posts . You can get diffusers (feliway/pet remedy) that can help them settle/be less anxious/stressed,

My vet advised against a collar as (assuming they will go outside) they could risk getting stuck somewhere and choking. Scratching post! Also dreamies (but make sure you keep them securely locked away, my cats can open drawers and cupboards to get them, they're now in the fridge

If you get a collar make sure you get one that's got a quick release catch, and not one that's a buckle. Much safer as if it gets caught on something it should come undone and your cat will be able to get free. My new cat had one with a buckle when we got her and when she got spayed she pulled her cone of shame and collar all the way up over her head and she did get it off but pulled off all her fur in the process if she's had a quick release one it would have come undone first.

Toys wise mine gets so much amusement from the smallest things! She currently loves playing with plastic springs (from the cat toy section in B&M), strips of cardboard, cable ties, hair bobbles and a small rubber duck I got in a goodie back from an event. She also has a catnip kicker which she snuggles up with loads.

Get a cat tree if you can. Mine uses hers all the time.

I stumbled across a news article yesterday on cheetahs then fell down a youtube black hole. Who knew that cheetahs meow just like domestic cats?! The cutest thing I've ever seen/heard, and currently now looking into the legalities of owning one Look it up, you won't regret it

Apparently cheetahs would actually be easy to have as domestic animals but the issue is they need to run long distances which makes it impossible. Look on YouTube for the videos of cheetah cubs in zoos being given puppies to live with as they dot like to be alone

I have three cats and am slightly allergic. I use daily antihistamines.

There is a food called live clear which has good reviews to stop signs of allergies in humans to cats

No breed is truly hypoallergenic, please please please do not buy a ‘pedigree cat’ for this reason as you might be disappointed, plus there’s lots of lovely moggies waiting for homes that you can adopt!

I take anti-histamines (Fexofenadine has been life changing for me) plus a steroid inhaler as I have Asthma. About 90% of the time I’m fine, but sometimes I still have the occasional bad reaction. I think I’ve built up a tolerance to my cats, as I tend to react worse to my friends’ and family’s pets, but everyone is different.

I couldn’t imagine life without them!

What does everyone here do at Christmas when visiting family out of town?

Do you opt for a cat sitter, a cattery or do you take them with you?

We had a cat sitter for the first time last year who popped in to top up their food and litter, but I heard some people bring their cats with them to spend Christmas together.

I’m just not sure how they’d get along with my family’s cats (we’d keep them separate for at least a day) and they might feel stressed being in a new place with new smells.. so perhaps it’s not a good idea!

I’m thinking a cat sitter is still the best option, but would love to hear other people’s experiences

My parents live on the other side of London to me so I take them with me but they also have 2 cats so I just keep them in a different room. They don't like not being able to go outside but I think they like the xhnqge of scene ( and new furniture to scratch )

Aww that’s really great to know you take them with you and they don’t mind it too much That’s a good idea to keep them in one room and the safest option! Maybe it’s not a silly idea after all then (minus the furniture, haha!)

We have cats and my husband is allergic. Over time he becomes immune to them. Then when we go on holiday and he gets a break, he’s allergic again for a few days when he’s back home.

An absolute nightmare. Made even more absurd by the fact that they often sleep in the carrier generally at home I live in a small flat and getting them in is like an obstacle course me running after them/under furniture trying to grab them etc. As soon as they're in they're fine. Cats

Mine is like water honestly she just flows out of your hands whenever you manage to catch her. Like she has no bones! And she’s lightening quick too. The last two times I tried to take her to the vet I had to give up and phone and apologise and cancel

My vets recommended top-opening carriers as we were having problems too. Now I just scoop them up with a blanket and quickly plop them in before they realise what’s happening! Unless we’re taking both of them, then the second one knows what’s up..
