Thank God forCaptain Tom snd his family for giving us something else to whinge about! The Great British public love a good whine, especially it is involves someone being put on a perch as we especially love knocking people off them. Good luck to Tom and his family. He helped to raise the moral of the country last summer and I am sure brought a smile to the faces of many. If he gets a free trip ( the plane was going there anyway and probably had plenty of spare capacity) and his family around him at the end, why should we be so churlish as to knock it? Does it affect us and our everyday lives? Not in the least unless you get off on being mean spirited and uncharitable. I hope the dear old boy recovers, but if he doesn’t, his spirit will live on in many who took him to their hearts. He became the nation’s favourite Grandad, why is that such a bad thing? Shall we now start slagging off Dame Vera Lynn for being the nation’s sweetheart?
Bless him, even if he has been exploited he has raised a ton of money for the rest of us to benefit from and has had an end of life experience at 100 that only the coldest hearted people could begrudge him. Sorry if this offends some of you.

Sorry, but I won’t be benefiting from any money he has raised. I don’t work for the NHS. The money he raised will be going to charities to rightly help our hard working NHS staff. I am an embalmer. So I have given people back their loved ones 1,000’s of times. Does that make me anymore special than the man next door? No! This hero worship is ridiculous. Yes he did a good thing. Does that give him a free pass for everything? NOPE

Why is my relative less special? My relative is one in a million to me and my family as I suspect is the same for everyone else in that same goddam hospital!

Let’s look at it this way, they flew from one of the worst infected countries in the World to Barbados, an Island with only two hospitals, just for fun. It wasn’t essential travel, a “bucket list” isn’t a right. They just wanted a holiday, during a global pandemic.
It’s entitled behaviour and putting others at risk is sickening.

I don't find it any more sad than all the other folks who died from Covid. Such an odd response from people, honestly.


They should be kept like that to show respect to the other 100,000 people who died.

I saw the photo of him on the plane with his custom seat cover. Aw, he looks very nice in his suit and a little smile. I think it is a very nice photo. But I just can't fathom that BA and his family thought it was a good idea for him to travel, 1. cause he was so old and 2. in case they brought the virus there as it can take a few days to show on a test. I wonder if he got Covid travelling back? I guess we will never know.

He really doesn’t look well on that photo compared to those taken earlier last year. He looks so tired and frail. He doesn’t even look well enough for a trip out to a U.K. local beach, let alone one in the Caribbean. What were his family thinking?? Look at his little face. He must have found the whole journey and holiday so gruelling and tiring.

He did a wonderful thing with his 100 laps and he will be remembered very fondly for that. However, I feel he has been pushed too far at his grand old age. All those TV interviews, photo shoots, journeys away from home, dealing with strangers, magazines, newspapers, daily intrusion. That would be too much for people half his age. He should have been resting in his 100th year, not being here there and everywhere. He must’ve have been exhausted and he looks it in that photo on the plane.

I find it incredibly sad that the very thing he was trying to raise awareness of and prevent has led to his own demise, either indirectly or directly. RIP Sir Tom.

Vile trolls had earlier taken to social media to slam Captain Tom and his family for jetting to Barbados in December.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield hit back at the nasty comments and sent Captain Tom their well-wishes on This Morning.

Discussing the story with Matthew Wright and Julia Hartley-Brewer, Julia said: "I was stunned to see some trolls on social media saying: 'Oh, if he didn't go to Barbados!'

"He went on a lovely, warm, perfectly legal Caribbean holiday with his family, and I think that's absolutely wonderful he did that and nothing whatsoever to do with his ailments now.

"I do think the trolls need to take a day off."

Phil added: "A life off! Just sod off!"

Holly added: "The timings don't work out with this so it's totally irrelevant anyway!"

my issue is the absolute irony of it all, I don’t know how many of them went away,
But his USP was protecting and “funding” the NHS.

he’s now come home and received treatment for pneumonia, which has lead to him delaying his vaccine and getting covid, his daughter is also infected, god knows who else, and all of this *could* have been avoided if they’d waited for 6/9 months to see where we were pandemic wise
barbados have an increase in cases due to travel, the last 12 months of his life have been something nobody could dream about!
how necessary is a “bucket list” trip when you’ve released a number one single, “wrote” a book, had the world cover your story, and set yourself and your family up for life in the process. When many his age haven’t seen a solitary person but care staff in nearly 12 months

Unless you have a daughter who’s shown herself as a marketing genius, using her elderly, frail father for exposure and profit that she will be benifit from for years to come.

Then you’re a “national treasure” and you can do what you like.

Boris's statement said condolences to his daughter Hannah and family. No mention of his other daughter, Lucy. I would be fuming.
