Susie’s comment is still there, sadly. I wonder how many DMs she has had about the documentary? Candice has spun this to be the victim not the perpetrator - remarkable! It's really not good enough to argue that she might have been a sex worker turned pimp. Pimping is exploitation. Full stop. Your background does not excuse it. She's vile.
Also has Susie verill deleted her comment in support of Candice? It's gone missing.
Cb is that you? For what it's worth there's an absolute world of difference in being the explored sex worker vs being the pimp exploiter. My two pence worth is this, a documentary by jodie Marsh on TLC should not be held up as a beacon of investigative journalism that holds any kind of authenticity or reflection of how the world of sex working/escorting truly works. And I say this as someone who used to work with sex workers from a public health perspective, and would regularly visit off street brothels and work with women who sold sex on the street.
The role of madam/pimp doesn't really exist.
There is a kind of business model (if you like) whereby more experienced or older sex workers would ensure younger and less experienced workers were safe and not being ripped or or putting themselves in vulnerable situations. It's not pretty or pleasant but it's the reality of sex work.
Both types of women selling sex are vulnerable in their own way and one should not be seen as more worthy of a victim status than the other. They both are.
However, this won't make for a good dialogue on a jodie Marsh documentary on a trash TV show.
I understand that Candice explained her role as a madam but to truly explain and go into the workings of selling sex takes a lot of time, and needs a non judgemental audience willing to listen and to try and understand it.
In addition, some of our best volunteers and employees within 3rd sector agencies who worked with sex workers, were themselves ex sex workers. I valued their previous experience and they could see things from a perspective I couldn't, having not sold sex myself. Some of them would probably be viewed as having previously been pimps/madams but I worked alongside them and valued them as work colleagues. And would have happily gone for after work drinks or had them over to my house.
I feel this 'revelation' about candice is simply a way to distract from MOD having been outed as a bully

I loved Candice initially, it was so darn good to see someone on the gram who me and my family could relate to in a sea of blonde hair/blue eyes. She was absolutely amazing, spoke so candidly yet in a cool, collected manner. She was humble, modest and kind and when the #ads started she was refreshingly honest. To me I never felt she was trying to blag stuff, she was very frank in that she had bills to pay and every ad was a means to an end.this ^
Also none of this alters the fact that MoD was racist in what she said about Candice. Nothing changes that. The other instamums who are oh so hurt because Clemmie said they were essentially irrelevant are complaining about their lives being shattered. Candice hasn’t done that. Yes she isn’t meek and submissive but looking at the maternal death statistics being nice and not upsetting people wasn’t solving the problem. Candice may not be perfect (who is?) but she is raising awareness.
Too many comments just smack of people sounding a tad like they are a bit relieved that they no longer have to feel sympathy for the uppity black woman!
Whichever term you use, pimp, madam, etc. Lining up clients to sleep with women and then taking a cut of the money is illegal in the uk.Haha, I'm flattered that you think it could be CB. Unfortunately not! Just someone who has a bit more insight into the world of sex working than others on here and can probably provide a bit more insight than the average person.
My point, which seems to have been a bit overlooked, is that the role of 'pimp/madam' doesn't really exist outside of american films or shit Jodie Marsh documentaries. It's a very sensationalist and defamatory term and seems like it's being chucked about on here to distract from the real issue
CB referred to herself as a madam on more than one occasion. So is she being derogatory, sensationalist and distracting? From that documentary (which I accept is not the pinnacle of scientific research) she claimed to very much hold the reins, she didn't seem to be 'one amongst many' and furthermore she was gloating about how much she was making off the back of her business model.Haha, I'm flattered that you think it could be CB. Unfortunately not! Just someone who has a bit more insight into the world of sex working than others on here and can probably provide a bit more insight than the average person.

If I remember correctly from the doc which has now mysteriously disappeared, ‘Candy’and another woman were ‘escorts and entrepreneurs’ who acted as Madams in an escort agency. This was from the time of that Billie Piper show about ‘high-class escorts’ so I suppose that was the influence. ‘Candy’ was also seen posing nude in a fur coat so, yes, absolutely on the game herself.
If anyone wants to see a REAL insight into prostitution, I recommend watching the BBC iPlayer documentary about Britain’s red-light district. It’s mostly drug addicts having sex for a fiver, being manipulated by men around them and sharing deeply depressing stories of childhood trauma. That is the reality of sex work for the vast majority of women around the world. Anyone who tries to glamourise it or promote it as an ‘entrepreneur’ is scum and a misogynist in my opinion.
exactly. There didn’t seem to be any mentoring or concern for the safety of anyone from what I could see? It seemed more to be about the money ( first edition books on eBay...) and making a joke of the punters.Cb is that you? For what it's worth there's an absolute world of difference in being the explored sex worker vs being the pimp exploiter.
It actually isn't illegal to run an escort agency.Whichever term you use, pimp, madam, etc. Lining up clients to sleep with women and then taking a cut of the money is illegal in the uk.
Running an escort agency like Candi was doing involves being a go between clients and working girls, and for that work as a go between she will take a fee from the client.
There are several escort agencies here in central London, all doing the same thing as we speak. Call it whatever you will, label it however you want but it is what it is and nobody, not a journalist, not someone you’ve worked with, and especially not TLC can change that.
