so was mid 90s for me too.
I’m looking forward to all build up to the body under the patio and when things get a bit crazy in the late 90s with all the gangsters and explosions 😂. I know I have ages to wait.

Its a bit slow going. I never watched these early ones first time round so was mid 90s for me too.
Yeah I started watching in the mid 90s too funnily enough. That was my thinking that it was too slow going. I know it's maybe not a good idea to introduce too many characters at once but I think we are all used to a bit more action in soaps today. There might be a bit too much now there is a happy medium!

I am still watching and loving it. There is some fantastic acting - and then some of it is dire, but it all gets better as it moves along.
I just feel incredibly old watching it, rembering the storylines from first time around is quite depressing!

I used to watch it religiously (I think it was originally broadcast Mondays and Tuesdays?) and would watch the Saturday omnibus again. There was really very little for a teenager to watch on TV back then. When C4 started with The Tube and Brookside - I was blown away.

Someone said on an earlier post- its not so much a soap but just everyday life (or words to that effect)
Not much is happening. Things seem to drag on. Some acting is awful (Petra and Karen! ) but some is very natural (Bobby and Sheila)

Also…. Alan Partridge. Hahaha

It's an excellent study of everyday folk trying to get on in life, buying a new-build house, escaping the council estate, the snobs downsizing, the keeping up with the Jones' types, all living in a cul de sac.
All with the topics of the early 80's, strikes, jobs, religion, sex, school, dodgy vcr's, money & the lack of it at times.
Coronation St, Emmerdale Farm or Crossroads were popular but reliably dull.
Brookside certainly resonated with tons of people at the time, it was must-see tv twice a week for me & my mates.

Day off today so have been catching up on the episodes, on Ep27 and the storylines are really picking up, especially with the Grant family.
Quite enjoy how Heather takes the mickey out of husband Roger, he's a man on the edge of combustion 😁

I've just googled both actresses and there is 13 years between them but it easily looks like Marie is 20 years older

I loved the character of Marie. I think she played the part really well.
Really sad, as she was another Brookside actress who died young. I think she was only in her 50s.

Brookside taught me to never switch on a light switch during a gas leak thanks to Ron Dixon taking out half the parade in the gas explosion. As a 9 year old Susannah and Max’s kids taught me to always wear a seatbelt. That crash traumatised me (I watched it on YouTube as an adult and it was pretty tame 😂)

Tinhead made me realise I was gay 😍😂
Tinhead was gorgeous as soon as he started to get a gay fan base they had him in his boxers every show and bare arsed at one point
