Yes, Josie’s departure seemed to come out of nowhere with no prior warning e.g. we didn’t see her look anxious or unhappy with the current setup. I think only in the episode before she was dancing the Lambada with Ellis and seemed happy enough, even when Mick came in and didn’t like what he saw, she was still chirpy with Mick.
I have a feeling the actress quit abruptly so they had no choice but to write her out. Even with the scene where she comes back to pack her bags, I feel that was a last minute insert as there was no goodbye scene with the kids as Mick sent them to play in the back garden. Maybe the producers said can you come in and do at least one scene to tie things up with Mick which must have been on a day the kids weren’t on set.
Josie was always a bit flaky anyway, coming in and out of Mick’s life, with or without the kids. I preferred Mick when Josie wasn’t around
