Bra shopping

I'm a 32E/F depending on the make and always end up back at Rigby & Peller. They are seriously expensive but I'm always happier with the fit than anywhere else. Victoria's Secret don't do my size, or at least they didn't when I asked them, and M&S bra's don't fit me properly and make me look like a bit saggy and fat (I don't even have saggy boobs yet!). I had a bra fitted in Bravissimo and whilst it did give good support and shape etc after a few hours wearing I was really sore in the centre of the chest where the underwires were so tight to the chest. I know that's just one bra but it put me off going back! R&P are twice the price though so I hand wash the bras and have less of them than I probably would if I could buy them cheaper elsewhere.

I'm a 36c but recently my bras don't seem to be fitting correctly. I did buy about 3 bras recently thinking maybe they were getting old and not as supportive. Luckily they were in the sale so only about £5-7 each. I booked a fitting at bravissimo but I've read they usually do bigger sizes but they'd help if not. But unsure if I should book it somewhere else instead?

I think most often fitters find that people wear a back size too big and a cup size too small. When I went for a fitting a few years back I had been wearing a 38C and was fitted for a 36E/34FF (dependent on type of bra). The last fitting I had in pregnancy was at Bravissimo and I was really impressed.

You might be surprised that your size is different to what you’ve been wearing.

Where do you girls recommend for comfy well fitting bras?

I have usually always bought mine from Mark’s & Spencer, because they would offer a bra fitting service too. They are always good and there is nothing to compare with a proper bra fitting, done with a tape measure and not done with just the eye!

I recently had a virtual bra fitting from Bravissimo, which was a strange experience! To be honest, I really wasn’t that impressed, as having since bought a bra from them, the straps STILL slip down, the bra feels like armour plating and I felt it was a complete waste of money, as I have gone back to using my old bras. Bravissimo do have a nice choice of bras, but what I wanted and what the lady recommended for me, didn’t quite match.

I wanted a racerback type of bra, where the straps don’t sit on your shoulders. I always have an issue with straps, they never seem to want to stay in place.

I have really big boobs (36J) and I find it near impossible to find good bras! There’s a lady on Instagram called Bellarosa that does virtual bra fittings or comes to your house! She’s incredible and has so much stock, she fits by eye not tape measure and her results are always so good! She tells you what bras fit your breast shape and what will look the best on you! It’s around £10/15 for a fitting but it’s well worth it! X

I always bought my bras from M&S as I found them the comfiest but I had a bra fitting in Victoria secrets once and I was wearing 2 sizes bigger than what I was I couldn’t believe it! The woman was so nice she picked out all the bras that would suit me the best and honestly I wouldn’t buy them from anywhere else now, yes they’re pricey but so worth it and the quality is so good. I tend to wait till they have sale on and get a few then

when I did used to wear them I found M&S to be comfortable and well lasting (don’t get fitted there though as they are a bit crap I found). also liked boux Avenue, Debenhams, TK Max have sometimes got good bargains on expensive designer underwear!

I was the same, changed boob size over lockdown and lived in sports bras. I didn’t want to buy a wired bra, so I have bought one from Sloggi. It’s the comfiest bra ever, no underwire but padded so you still have some shape, so light, I genuinely barely notice I have it on! A hug for my boobs. It’s not the most attractive but for day to day it’s perfect.

Since my early teens I’ve gone for M&S bras and I do find them best for me but I don’t really have much in the boob department I’ve started wearing a lot of wireless and sports bra type bras they’re sooo comfy! Some aren’t the best looking but I’ve decided comfort comes first these days!

I’m 40 in a few weeks and want to feel A+ smoking hot in it, but it still be half practical (so I can wear it under my clothes rather than just change into it). I’ve lost weight and more importantly hit the gym and am actually proud of my body for the first time in my life, am a 10-12 (previously a 26-28 at my largest) and just feel very out of touch and no idea where to start that isn’t M&S

Have you got any independent lingerie shops near you. They will have lovely, practical stuff and will fit you properly. Investing in bras will make all your clothes look far better.

For people with a larger cup size I would really recommend Miss Mandalay. Beautiful bras, non-frumpy and without the really wide straps or 3 hook fastenings. They also do bra-sized swimwear.

Asda have good bras for bigger busts but you do need to know your size.

Another vote for bravissimo for fittings if you can!
and also boob or bust is so good for home measuring as well! Plus it explains how bras should fit etc
Boux Avenue do lovely pretty bras but can run small in terms of sizing. Marks and Spencers and Debenhams do affordable options but again can be hit and miss with sizing.
