Watching episode 3 now and I SWEAR I saw Will Young during the “This Morning Boy Band” section.

I think my main takeaway from the series is how bloody sad it was that they were all worked like dogs with absolutely no care for their physical or mental wellbeing. They burned out and were spat out. The fact so many have been left dead, addicted, haunted (and in the case of E17) absolutely skint is tragic. Especially since this was all filmed before Liam Payne’s death.
And it was annoying that the managers etc where blaming the boyband members for it. Making out it was there fault for splitting up etc. Just give them some bloody time off but nope too much ££££ at stake.

Am I the only one who didn’t realise the lyric in the chorus that the girl sings is “I feel a little poke coming through on you”
Omg I didn’t realise that either, that’s hilarious!

I’ve just found this absolute gem. Gary, Barry and Robbie!

I’m glad Robbie and Gary sorted out their differences. Robbie has done so much work on himself, I hope he’s proud of where he’s got to.

The bit that stood out to me in Robbie’s post to Nigel was that he believes he would have been an addict no matter what job he had but fame just made it happen quicker.
An interesting point

I’ve just finished it. My much older sis was really into take that so I was too and was always a Robbie girl and I cried all the way home from school the day he left TT (I was 6 and my mum has never forgiven him 🤣)

I am so glad he seems to have got over his demons and has likely sought a lot of therapy - the bit with Sean from Five was very touching. Robbie’s doc on Netflix is worth a watch.

Overall I enjoyed it but it felt glossed over in parts. Boyzone barely mentioned and the departure of Sean from Five wasn’t really mentioned? The cardboard cut out was so memorable! Even bands like Busted and McFly weren’t mentioned (even though they were a bit less pop/boy bandy) and like someone said Blazin’ Squad.

Reach for the Stars by Michael Cragg is a brilliant book on 90s/00s pop in general and delves into things more deeply. Highly recommend.

It was a nice nostalgic watch though so I will be going back to the Boybands at the BBC programme and creating a boy band playlist off the back of it!

My little girl is 4 and I do wonder what it will be like for her growing up (music wise) as it’s just not like how it was for me. She already loves the spice girls though so it’s not all bad 😂 x

Also meant to say, I found it so odd that Antony from Blue said he thought that everyone else put the band 2nd and for him they were always first. I was a big blue fan back in the day and I am quite sure he had a daughter born towards the end of the band? So it seems strange that the band was still first priority!

He just has that kind of personality, I think. Being thrown into the fame game so young without adult guidance or support certainly wouldn't have helped things. That's kinda what I think about all of the lads from all those bands, you can't expect teenage boys who, in some cases, don't know each other, to be chucked together, expected to agree and get along, understand the contacts they're signing, be able to bear the working schedules, and not crack under the pressure eventually. Makes you wonder what the working hours directive (?) thing for under 18s was then, was there such a thing...

Binged watched this all last night, really interesting. I love hearing Robbie Williams talk about his experiences in Take That and stardom in general...just so much insight and he's obviously really worked on himself and had masses of therapy. I feel he's in a better place but in some respects still a bit tortured and has his demons. As someone mentioned upthread, his Netflix documentary is great and he really goes into a lot of detail. I never liked Gary Barlow as a teen, from the off. Yes, a very talented musician and song-writer but at times he stuck out like a sore thumb and never had the charisma and the others propped him up from that respect.

Scott from Five really got to me - even now he looks like a broken man with PTSD galore. I wanted to hug him and Sean. The story about Sean and Robbie Williams reaching out to me was lovely, as Robbie just knew what Sean was going through. Ritchie from Five came across really well. I like that Chris Herbert (Five's creator / manager) put his hands up and said that they got it wrong in terms of the mental health / wellbeing support that wasn't provided to the lads.

The lack of Boyzone was very obvious, but I guess no one wanted to talk or appear on the show. Brian McFadden still irks me to this day. His refusal to talk about Kerry or even mention her just said everything about him. Louis Walsh looked really dodgy. His comment about the band Damage was rather telling; of course he would never be able to see it from their perspective about why they had a bigger mountain to climb.

Let’s Dance is one of my favourite Five songs and you’re right about the cardboard cutout. I remember the bit at the start of the video where they ask it/ Sean for an opinion on ideas for their new video

So Sean did leave Five? I had a vague memory that he had, but I’d long outgrown boy bands by then so I wasn’t sure. Very weird to not mention it, especially since he was interviewed for the show.

Very surprising that no one from Boyzone wanted to appear. Considering how big they were, it doesn’t seem right to gloss over them.

What a gob McFadden is. It’s one thing to be embarrassed about someone you had a fling with or briefly dated when you were young, but to be so vile about Kerry when he married her and had two children with her is a really disgusting thing to do to his daughters.

I remember at the time they said he was sick with glandular fever and then he just kind of never came back, then the group split up anyway not long after

That video cracks me up lol
But Scott is still suffering as others have said.
he still lives in Basildon, and is very normal.
i saw 5 a few years at a 90/00 weekender and then saw 911, a1, 5 and damage at rhe boyband reunion tour.

Is Scott still with the woman who was his girlfriend during his original stint in Five?

I liked that too. Unlike that News Of The World guy who still seems proud of screwing up those lads lives so much.

It’s funny to me too but I’m sure on the big reunion Sean said he wasn’t happy with it? Because it’s a bit of piss take
Could be completely remembering wrong though

Weird that nobody from take that has liked his post or commented on it though 🤔
I’m not sure why that would be 🤔

The bit about Jason- he really went AWOL didn’t he and I don’t think he speaks to any of them anymore
