I read The Left Hand of Darkness earlier this year, and I loved that your perception of the novel shifts entirely the further in you get.
I read Dracula a couple of years ago and completely loved it - there's a Dracula Daily substack you could try if you're interested in a reread which must have begun earlier this month. They send out emails on the corresponding days of the novel.
And also a match on The Master & Margarita! I expected to love this, but really didn't.

Agreed about The Left Hand of Darkness, it was like nothing else I've read and I think haven't read something like it since. Le Guin's stories really agree with my brain, what a wonderful mind she was.
Netflix have released the first trailer for East of Eden. Looks good and I think Florence P will be a great Cathy/Kate

My mum enjoyed reading, she loved Patricia Cornell books. My dad mainly read technical books, but I’d always go to the library with him.
Unless you’re a Booktok girlie and you spend all your bleeping money because it has a sprayed edge and only buy the books everyone else is buying. They deserve to be judged.Reading is so good because you can spend as much as you like both money wise and time wise on it and nobody can say anything about it because it’s improving, even if you’re reading about faeries shagging dragons or men in masks chasing women through the woods
See also these people who in my opinion pretend to read 10 books in a couple of days and then brag about it! I love reading but a full time job, kids and a house most of mu spare time. I read every night at bed time, but unless the book seriously grips me, it's only 1-2 chapters.
I read 3 books last week however it was because I was in the mood for binge reading. Talking like 4 hours a night after work. With reading my moods often fluctuate so I'll sometimes go a week or so with reading nothing. Then sometimes an hour a night or whatever. Definitely depends on what I'm doing or what's happening in life generally at the time. Also the book challenge helps keep me motivated.
My boyfriend was saying about how his ex had so many books, he built her bookshelves etc and he said "I never saw her read one in the time we were together".I’m sure it was here that I once read that book buying and book reading are two separate hobbies
I was like "of course not, buying books is completely seperate from actually reading, they are not exclusive"

I’m so excited for this, but with a slight nervousness because surely it can’t live up to expectations…can it??
I’ve never seen my mum read a book, ever. And my dad does read now but I never saw him read a book when I was younger. I don’t think they even read to me. But I was still a bookworm. In fact my mum used to ‘tease’ me about being switched at birth as I was so unlike them.
This made me want to read the book! Never read it but the story looks great.
It's 75p on kindle! I just had exactly the same thought and always like to read something before watching an adaptation.

Oh I hated it with a fiery passion. I read it twenty years ago when my boyfriend at the time said it was his favourite book.
My dad was an avid reader of science fiction and fantasy, which are the two genres i really dont want to read. My mum was a scientist and really clever but I never ever saw her read a book for fun. I am one of four, but I was the only bookworm out of the four of us. I dont really know where my love of reading came from. All my pocket money went on books, I went to the library at least twice a week. Ive always encouraged my own kids to read, but out of 5, 2 dont read at all, 2 are bookworm and the other is more of a holiday reader. Personally I think its something inside you and background doesnt matter too much (access to books aside)
