After reading Trespasses I wanted to read some non fic on the subject and this sounds like it.

I didn’t know a lot about the troubles - aside from remembering it being on the news in the background when I was eating dinner after school! - until I went to Belfast a few years ago. Really eye opening!

Trespasses was one of my favourite books of 2023! Have you seen the TV series? I haven't yet.

I've just finished Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe about the Troubles in Northern Ireland. It reads like fiction, was highly informative and well researched. I believe it's now a series on Disney+. For about the fifth time, I'm now rereading Wuthering Heights

Say Nothing is on Channel 4 - I’ve watched it. Might grab the book though

yes! wonderful acting and music, but i did feel similar to the book in that it was manipulating me to feel sad rather than just letting me feel the emotions organically (i think that was my main issue with the book!) paul mescal though

I saw the film today - totally agree with your thoughts… plus it felt long/I was definitely bored at times.

I’ve only read the first in the Gone series but what a ride! The scene with the arm has stayed with me ever since 🫣 and the kid who decides to take over McDonalds, bless him.

I read them all as they were first released and loved them. I got so excited last month when I realised they were on KU and I’ve torn through them all. Started the last one of the main series yesterday and have the three add ons lined up for when I’m done. Although they’re aimed at 13 year old boys I love them! They’re gritty, dark and so fast paced.

Currently reading Night Swimmers and really loving it. The kind of book you miss the characters when you finish.

I'm reading Game Changer (book 1 of series with Heated Rivalry) and don't get me wrong, I enjoyed books like Red, white and royal blue, or whatever it's called, but this is too much girlish lovey doveyness and waaaaay too much filth. Not sure I can get to the end and I never DNF! Just constantly skimming past cock on cock action.

I absolutely binged all 6 books straight after watching the show, so I obviously feel quite different to you. But that is why there are so many books in the world, we are all going to prefer different things! So, if anyone did enjoy the Game Changers books and has any similar books to recommend (but not in the world of hockey, which is all the recommendations I seem to be getting now), please do share them.

Pretty sure they’re on Kindle Unlimited there’s also a summer suspense series all set in Cornwall which are pretty easy reads.

I’m halfway through The Marriage Act by John Marrs.
He’s an odd one for me, I either love his books or struggle through them because I hate to not finish one!

I really enjoyed the marriage act but on reflection I just think I read three of his best books on the bounce - the one, and the minders being the others. I think they are really interesting concepts and like how they played out but I can’t bring myself to call myself a fan of the rest. I think they are easily readable but sadly diminishing in quality for me.

I appreciate the intel! I skipped to Heated Rivalry on your prior recommendation, no regrets (and even that felt like a bit of a slog at times! But Ilya was worth it)

February was a great month for me reading wise. I’ve not been well so not been going anywhere and have tried to doom scroll less, picking up my kindle much more often. I’ve also started listening to audiobooks at work more which always ups my numbers.

The Gone series, Lord of the Flies and Notes on a Nervous Planet are all rereads and I’ve enjoyed them just as much the second time round (or tenth in the case of TLotF!).

Biggest disappointment was The Midnight Feast - nothing happened! I loved the first couple Lucy Foley books I read but have been disappointed by the others. I don’t think I’ll read any more of hers.

I’m counting Fear in February reads as I finished it in the very early hours of yesterday.

This is the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction longlist. Has anybody read any of them? I have marked the three that I have. I would recommend them all.
