My November reads!
Got through more than usual this month with some short quick reads and thanks to being home more trying to fight off a never ending cold!
As you can see I’m well into the Christmas books already!
My favorites were The Killer in the Cold (this is the latest in a series and I’ve enjoyed them all) and A Christmas Murder. I’m also really enjoying the primrose series by Jill Steeples as nice little chicklit reads.

I was expecting the last chapter to either explain everything or nothing so I'm not too surprised. The book wasn't bad and the chapter a day was fun!
I do think the advent style limited how the book could be written so my main takeaway is the chapters could have been a little longer with a bit more detail.

Thanks to whoever recommended Happy Bloody Christmas, I started it this evening and already read quite a bit. It’s funny and doesn’t require too much brainpower which is essential after a few wines

There are a lot of loose ends to tie up in this final chapter. I wonder if they will ask be or ipf we will be left hanging.
What was wrong with Beth and Adam's relationship before they came?
Will Beth forgive Adam for taking them to this cabin?
Just who was snowmobile person and why did they have an issue with the family?
Why was snowmobile person happy to leave Bill for dead?
What was the point of the stocking, the rabbit foot, finger, the slides etc.?
Why were we introduced to Miss Miller in the first couple of chapters to never hear from her again?
I had a bunch more questions but my mind ha gone blank. I'll be back.

This has been fun. I know we can't do this every month, but I hope we can find a book with similarly short chapters, that last a month and have a storyline that keep us guessing. We all have such different opinions about how this will end and some of us have stepped into a genre we wouldn't usually touch.

Good surprise, The Wake Up Call by Beth O'Leary, for a rom com it was quite pacey and kept me engaged.

Author of The Stranding, Kate Sawyer has a new book coming, so as soon as that is available for preorder I will order that too.

I want to try and clear some of my TBR and unhaul some books. I might set my goal as 3 a week, so 156, as I am not far from that this year.

the sacred lies of minnow bly. My first five star read of the year. Absolutely devoured this book, I will never forget minnow, she’s left her mark on my heart.

this is going to hurt by adam kaye. Fantastic insight and morbidly hilarious.

I’ve tried (and failed) to get into audio books so I only listened to one this year and it was none of this is true (notit) but I enjoyed it.

I feel I will do my yearly roundup a disservice by not mentioning “the peen”
not literary genius by any stretch of the imagination but I have never laughed reading a book so much and now have an arsenal of pumpkin puns to last me a lifetime!
I was sorely disappointed by the “I’m a therapist…” books. No amount of suspending disbelief could make me enjoy them, unfortunately

I've done 75 and that's thanks to about 25 audiobooks - I have a lot of time in the office where I can put earbuds in and it keeps me engaged with my work because it helps the time fly by. Well done on your 80. I'm going to aim for 52 again in 2025.

25 Days. It is making me sad when I see we are two thirds of the way through the book. What will I focus on next. I am reading other books alongside it, but my thoughts drift back to Adam, Beth, Abby and Chloe all the time.
I just can't figure out how an these characters link together Miss Morris (the cleaner,) Bill, the family, snowmobile person.
Is the person at the 'prison' the same person who rides the snowmobile, is that person the same person who shot at Adam? Did they pick Adam off because he was the leader of the pack? Is the snowmobile coming for Adam? Will they be furious he survived the gun shot and fall from the ledge?

A better than average month for me! I spent most of November of my own packing for two international moves (🫠🫠🫠) so I used the time to listen to lots of audiobooks. My best reads of the month were So Late in the Day and Service - both five stars.
Can anyone recommend some cosy Christmas murder mysteries?

Yeah it's definitely a shame that she doesn't trust her readers to 'get it'.
I'm 3/4 of the way through Small Things Like These and it's so well-written. The best thing I've read for ages.

Demon Copperhead was one of the few books that I felt emotionally invested in this year.
Also loved The Rachel Incident and Evenings and Weekends. Had never heard of either of the authors, but I guess I like Irish writers!

Intermezzo was better than I expected it to be.
All Fours was a book I had seen listed as one of the best books of the year. The main character was so unlikeable that it could not draw me in. There are so interesting topics and the writing is great, but none of that was enough for me to say that I enjoyed it overall. I think I veered from one extreme to another while reading it.
If you rate books what was your average rating and/or sum up your year of reading.
I have no clue how to see what my average Goodreads rating was. From briefly scrolling, it looks like 3-4 stars

To become better at DNFing a book and not letting it drag on for weeks.
I would like to read more non-fiction this year. Even to set myself a goal of reading 10 minutes of nonfiction per day.
