I've spent most of the weekend reading The Examiner by Janice Hallett. I've just finished it and I would argue it's as good as The Appeal. Really good!

It's a thread favourite and I love knowing they market it as "that octopus book"

I’m in that funny place of starting a book then shelving it for something else, then another and so on. I just can’t settle on anything. This weekend I started Tom Lake, Demon Copperhead and The Wedding People. All highly rated books but I just keep scrolling Goodreads for alternative suggestions
I think I need something easy and feel good…. Any suggestions? I’ve read all Clare Pooley.

Beth O’Leary? I loved The Switch by her.

My goal was 125 (read 122 last year so thought that should be doable for sure) but I haven't read as much this year so I went down to 115 and now to 100 because seeing '10 books behind' was very demotivating, so I am aiming for a 100 now and everything more than that will be a nice bonus. I do love having a goal but once it becomes a chore it is no longer fun.

Agree. I thought about upping my goal for next year as I think I'm definitely going over it this year but then thought I don't want to be reading to meet a target, it stops being enjoyable then!

Reached my Goodreads goal of 80 books today now going to aim for 100 by the end of the year.

Not that it matters about numbers as numbers shouldn't matter but does anyone else on here set themselves a reading goal? Are you on track if you set yourself a goal?

I had a fairly good reading year last year compared to the previous few so I set 100 books. I’m about 9 books behind.

Coming to the end of None of This is True by Lisa Jewell. I love her books but this one took a while to grab me, its pace in the beginning is very slow but I'm in the last third of it now and its really escalating and I can't wait to see what happens.

Play the long game, I do.
Buy this one, don’t read it. Put the rest on your wish list and check it daily, eventually on random days and months each one will be a reasonable price and buy them as they get reduced to 99/1.99 to slowly complete the set. It might take a while (think I bought the throne of glass series over about 2 years) but that’s my plan. I have enough ton my tbr list to keep me occupied.

I recently sold on Ziffit, quite a lot of books actually, and got around £36. At first I was a bit miffed at how low it was considering how much I'd spent on them in the first place - some were really new too
But I don't have the patience to list them individually on vinted/ebay and just wanted them out of my house so I just sucked it up. So easy to do, just stick them in a box and someone collects at your chosen time.

One annoying thing is they must have a surplus of some books because they didn't take some of my Tessa Bailey books so they're still sat on my shelf

I was gonna do Ziffit once, but the amount of books they were refusing including Tessa Bailey shite, there was still loads I'd have had to take to charity shop anyway, so I just thought, fuck it, it can all go to charity shop.

Just saw the trailer for Small Things Like These and it gave me goosebumps. Im not a big movie gal but I will definitely be going to see this!

I read the book in one afternoon a few Christmases ago. I still remember how it made me feel. Not sure I could watch the film, but looks like great casting.

Butter - 3.5/5 (it was good but I was disappointed I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to)

The Paris Apartment (audiobook) - 3.5/5

Death of a Bookseller - 4/5 (I really liked this!)

I just finished A History of Loneliness by John Boyne. It's my third book of his and they've all been brilliant. He's one of the most engaging contemporary writers I can think of. I have the attention span of a goldfish but I couldn't put it down.

A difficult read, about abuse in the Catholic Church, but so good. He writes characters who are flawed and weak but still sympathetic really well.

Finished Hello Beautiful this evening. Oh my word! Loved it. It's easily a 5* for me and deserves all the plaudits.
Now onto Tom Lake by Ann Patchett.

Yes I always set a goal! It’s 100 for this year and I’m currently on 94 so I’m well ahead haha

Finished Faking Friends by Jane Fallon yesterday - she's one of those authors where I just fly through her books and they're easy reads.

Some of the revenge plots were unrealistic but sometimes you just need to suspend disbelief and go along with the ride
