My colleague and I compared TBRs today. I have 130ish unread books on my Kindle, which was actually quite surprising to me She has 450ish physical unread books in her house Stresses me out thinking about it! I'm a Kindle girlie for life now

…… do we work together? am I your colleague?!

this thread is the only thing that makes me consider getting a kindle - i get so much fomo about the daily deals 🫣

As you may know from earlier postings, I was stressing as I had been notified by the library that 10 books were in transit, when I already had a pile to read at home etc etc
Well, a couple of nights ago I finished another book from my pile whilst tucked up in bed. I was nattering at myself to get up and go downstairs for another book off the pile, but couldn't face the hassle of burglar alarm etc
Then lo a light from above shone down and my phone pinged. Turned out an e-book I was salivating to read had become available ................well you probably know me well by now with possibly some going on.
Yes, dear reader I abandoned all my good intentions of getting through the big pile and settled down to a late night reading of the new e-book.
As I was approaching the end of the book just now, I found myself tearing up at the goodness of people, and having to pause to pull myself together. Then metaphorically slap myself at the realisation that it was fiction and not real.
On reaching the final pages I discovered that the next book in the series was coming 2025. Hurrah
ETA it was Date With Justice by Julia Chapman. The next book Date With Destiny is due 2025.

I am SO into Demon Copperhead, my GOD. I'm only a quarter in and I am absolutely hooked. Already an extremely strong contender for book of the year.

Can't wait to become obsessed with Barbara Kingsolver and read everything she's ever written. I already own The Poisonwood Bible.

I fear we are an enabling thread rather than one that’s going to stop you!
I came to the thread around April with about 7 books to read on my kindle, now I have 66! That‘s without all the physical books I’ve bought since! Got 2 more on Waterstones yesterday, both preorders so I’ve got time to read a few before they arrive.

Stayed up almost 3 hours past my normal bedtime to finish Saving 6, crying at midnight at the part at the end where Joey comes home on Christmas Day and Tadhg had a train which was far too young for him, Joey thought his mum had put the wrong tag on the present until he saw it said ‘Boy 7-11’ and realised it was from a charity.

On to Redeeming 6! Today is perfect reading weather where I am, raining all day!

Must have been a more interesting one than the only one I went in. Nothing grabbed me, it was boring and damp.

Mt local one shut down and now we have no bookshop at all. I do miss it.

I may have a slight issue with with Kindle deals. During August with free and 99p deals I have added 44 kindle books (there’s still a few hours of August left so this may rise). That’s not including the actual books and audiobooks I’ve bought this month too

There's a little "street library" near me I've dropped a few books in (and taken some out of). It's just a little cabinet on a street with books that are free to take.

I love a 3.5 star fluff when it’s not dragging on for me. I also love historical fiction, fantasy, crime & psychological.
I recently left a book sub on Reddit as some of them seemed to come across as judgey book snobs. I don’t care what people read, I’m just happy to see people reading and enjoying it.

For any fans of Richard Osman’s TMC he has a new book being released in the Autumn - unfortunately not a new TMC. We Solve Murders - a father in law / daughter in law crime solving duo. It’s going to be a new series apparently.

And any Elizabeth Strout fans, she also has a new book being published. Tell Me Everything is also set in Crosby, Maine (like Olive K and Lucy Barton)

I’m a fan of both so looking forward to new books.

I'll admit that I only added The House in the Cerulean Sea and Prima Facie because I'd heard them talked about on here. You lot are so good with your spoilers that I had no clue what either was about. The former was just so cosy and lovely and the latter will stick with me for a very long time, the subject matter was written about so well and respectfully. Outstanding.

National Theatre Live is screening Prima Facie again. I’m definitely going to watch it as I felt that Jodie Comers narration of the audio book was extraordinary and I wish I could have seen it on the stage.

Has anyone here joined a "silent book club" event?
I've realised there's one fairly locally to me and they do appeal since there's no pressure to read one particular book or even socialise. Ideally I'd like to make some friends but I always feel awkward describing the book I'm currently reading to another person

admit i don't really understand these.. if it's just communal reading in silence doesn't that happen in public anyway? I once had the gloriously lovely experience of being in a tube carriage where everyone was reading.... books , e readers, newspapers etc in an age where everyones looking at their phone like a zombie it was beautiful. There must have been about 15 or 20 of us in there from all ages and types

bought think again on the way home, came home to somewhere beyond the sea, placed an order for three more books arriving tomorrow. to think i was going to try and do an end of year book buying ban!

also i’m reading green dot (late i know) and i am already extremely fed up with (a) the lead character and (b) the author’s need to describe numerous characters as looking “like they want to die”. i get it’s meant to be about the ennui of being in your early twenties and in a boring office job that isn’t what you expected but she’s insufferable does she stay this way throughout? because right now i want to walk into the book and tell her how annoying she is.
