Trying to save money where I can so when I see the 2 for £9.50 or offers on books in Tesco I try to think before I mindlessly purchase. I have so many books on my shelves and my kindle already.

Soooo I’ve just finished ACOTAR

I listened and physically read. I think I’d do that for the others too. It made it easier to follow (I don’t think I’m clever enough for fantasy ) and I like to know the correct pronunciation of names etc Hermione was Her-me-own when I read HP 20 years ago

I’m in that funny place of starting a book then shelving it for something else, then another and so on. I just can’t settle on anything. This weekend I started Tom Lake, Demon Copperhead and The Wedding People. All highly rated books but I just keep scrolling Goodreads for alternative suggestions
I think I need something easy and feel good…. Any suggestions? I’ve read all Clare Pooley.

I finished The Wrong Sister last night. Claire Douglas has become a favourite of mine this year and I'm slowly making my way through her back catalogue (5 to go!). I enjoyed this one, not her best and I predicted most of the twists but I still devoured it in 24 hours.

Just finished Pumpkin Spice Cafe which I think was a recommendation on here. Adorable. Very Stars Hollow (is the authors name real, it seems too much of a coincidence?!) I'm 100% pre-ordering the next one on pay day!

if i am honest both of those promo approaches puts me right off reading a title. TIKtok just makes me think YA , vacuous, romance etc and Booker(insert other prize here)nominated just makes me think dull and boring because i'm hard pressed to find one of these prize nominated/winning titles I enjoyed despite being a lit fic girlie

Thats fair enough. Ive read some books I adored on the Booker list but also some that were awful or I just didnt get like Milkman by Anna Burns.

Has anyone here joined a "silent book club" event?
I've realised there's one fairly locally to me and they do appeal since there's no pressure to read one particular book or even socialise. Ideally I'd like to make some friends but I always feel awkward describing the book I'm currently reading to another person

I’d love to find one. The book club I went to at the library here was awful. They all hated every book we read, I didn’t mind the books…

The Island

I gave up after that, we got given Lyrics Alley at my last one but I didn’t even bother reading it. Someone took lots of dried dittany in to the library for the chat about The Island even though she hated the book and made a mess of the table. Me and another lady didn’t know where to look.

At least at a silent book club there’s less chance of someone being annoying.

I've just finished Sociopath: A Memoir by Patric Gagne. I really didn't know how I wanted to rate it, it was quite heavy going with lots of self and psychological analysis and I can't honestly say I enjoyed it, but it did give me a lot of insight into how sociopaths struggle to fit in. So I did give it a 4 star.

Currently reading The Rachel Incident and am thoroughly enjoying it. Contemplating abandoning all real life duties and reading all day.

I read that in a day on holidays last year - really enjoyed it

but, same. i can never properly judge what i’m in the mood for and i don’t own a kindle so once i start i realise that i’m steadily running out of suitcase room. i’ve started just taking magazines instead (they’re easier after a few aperol spritzes )

I’ve been similar this week, I have three books on the go but not desperate to pick up any of them atm.

I liked The Thursday Murder Club well enough but I have since found Robert Thorogood's Marlow Murder Club to be a bit more of a page turner for me. That said, I'm still looking forward to Osman's movie, and his new book We Solve Murders, as I want to see what else he can write.
