Said it so many times. This really is one of my favourite little pockets of the internet 😍

Its such a welcoming and friendly environment, even though we all read different books.

I moved to a brand new country didn’t know a soul. I put a notice on the local Facebook page if anyone was interested in joining a book club. Three turned up to the first meeting last June, now we are 12. It’s helped me make great friends who have introduced me to others. I can’t say I’ve loved many of the books chosen and some have been a hard slog but it’s all part and parcel of the group.

Hello hope everyone is well. I was thinking how you are all so great and I wish we were friends IRL. I have a few close friends but I'm an introvert who finds socialising EXHAUSTING. Also, why does it get harder and harder to make friends as you get older??? I live in a rural area and don't drive (cars terrify me), which doesn't help matters. I wonder if any of you live near me, I'd be so interested to know. But alas we are anonymous book worms wriggling about.

Speaking of books oops yes this is a book thread I went s l I g h t l y off topic there!

Still reading Know my Name by Chanel Miller. She is absolutely wonderful. So funny, witty, intelligent and strong. A really hard book to read but such an important one. She's so brave.

Next I'll be reading The Golden Couple.

OK, bye for now my virtual pals.

I’ve finished my A-Z challenge! The template I used had a few bonus reads so I’ve done those too. I’m quite proud of myself for sticking with it, and I’ve read a few books outside of my comfort zone which I wouldn’t usually have picked up so that’s good too.

Over the past 2 years or so I’ve taken screenshots of any books I’ve seen that I’ve fancied the look of on here or TikTok etc. with the full intention of adding them to my Amazon wish list later on that day. Today I realised that enough was enough and I needed to actually start adding them to Amazon as I don’t think I’d ever managed a single one. There were 110 book screenshots in my phone! It took me over an hour to add them to my wish list but was quite happy to spot that about 15 were on Kindle Unlimited!

I’ve just hit my 100 day reading streak!! In 2021 I made it my New Year’s resolution to start reading again, then this year I made it to read everyday. Last year I read 56 books and this year I’m already at 29! Don’t think I would’ve stuck to it at times without this thread. Always grateful for the chats, reviews and recommendations 🥰

I’m planning an evening of reading with wine and snacks 😍 I’ve got my comfies on and my blanket at the ready. Genuinely so excited. How sad is my life haha.

I saw a tiktok earlier which made me think of our little book group here. A booktoker posted a review of a book and the author didn't like that it wasn't 100% positive and disagreed with the review. It made me think how some of us here have read the same book and we've had differing opinions from love to hate to indifference, but I've never seen someone else react that way. We get honest thoughts and reviews from one another. I know I've had plenty of recommendations and books I've only read from here. This is probably one of the only places on the internet we have a safe space like this :ROFLMAO:

We all know I don't enjoy Fredrick Backman, but my friend sent me his novella 'And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer' and I don't think I will ever stop crying. It is only 76 pages long so I just read it at lunchtime. But gosh 🥹

My Dad has early onset dementia, diagnosed when he was 57, he is turning 61 this year and we have had to put him in a home because he was getting too violent at home with my mum. So this book is close to the home, brilliant but I cried more everytime I turned the page. 😭

I was a member of an in person book club when we lived in Singapore. I generally dislike people, but thought we are half the world away it's probably a good idea to talk to someone. I forced myself to go and hated the first two months, on month three I spoke to a lady and now 17 years later we are the bestest of friends. Gradually one by one we have all left Singapore so now we do an online one via WhatsApp and Zoom if we can coordinate time zones. Usually there are four sentences about the book and then lots of wine consumed.

Oh my darling fellow socially anxious introverts, how I love to see it!

@Elle I also live in a fairly rural setting and don’t drive (the absolute terror of it!) and am horrendously awkward with people so I really relate to what you said!

I love the idea of an in person book club but can’t even fathom the reality of attendance

and honestly, I’ve forgotten 99.9% of a book the instant it’s over. I don’t critically analyse and I’m horrendously inarticulate at reviewing

I just don’t want to have to pay the level of attention needed to constructively contribute to the conversation tbh. It would make a hobby feel like homework

I think this is the quickest we have got through a thread. Last one was created 11th Feb. Probably thanks to all the new members, which is just wonderful!

My partner got me a Kindle gift card for my birthday ❤ I am very excited for all the books I can get on my kindle! I also found the daily deals section on my kindle (finally lol) so it’s about to get hectic in April 😂

Someone has put together a little book swap cabinet down the road from me, so I picked up these on the way home this evening. Matt Haig can be a bit hit and miss but we’ll see. They’re both in great condition and the cabinet has a lot of books in so it’s really lovely.

@twilightgarden I’m still trying to get through The Mother 😩 I’ve been a bit stop/start over the last couple of days which I don’t think has helped. Just over half way through.
Speaking of book swaps, I saw this book vending machine the other day and thought it was a cute idea! In the Corn Exchange in Manchester if anyone lives or works around in the city centre. It’d be a great if you were a commuter. You could finish your book on the way into work, then swap it for a new one on your way home!
