I don't think we've had a Book Club choice so popular in a while. It's only March 8th and lots are starting the sequel already, love how reading brings us all together.

I've read The Maid and gave it 4* and may start the sequel after I finish my current book.

Just finished the second book! I gave it 4/5, reasons below.

Like others have said, the writing style was a little too similar to the first and it didn’t grip me quite as much.

I felt the ending was a little rushed too. What happened to Marybeth? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I thought she’d gotten away with it but then Millie mentions that she shouldn’t have crossed her?

Still two nice easy reads though and sometimes we definitely need those kinds of books.

I’ll definitely look for more by this author but not just yet. I feel like I need something else to get stuck into first.

It definitely got me out of my slump and now I'm reading more thrillers! I've jumped from 7 to 12 books read so far 😂

Me too I hadn’t finished a single book this year yet but I’ve inhaled this one and the sequel!! I think thrillers must be my fave genre because I just want to know what happens 😆

For those who enjoyed the book/s and are looking for more from the author, I read The Inmate this week and enjoyed it. I didn’t race through it quite as quickly as The 2 x Housemaid books (both read in less than 24 hours) but it was only a couple of days. It had the same quick, short chapters pacey feel and definitely kept me guessing. Would recommend!

I did read One By One by her a few years ago but don’t remember much about it apart from that I rated it highly according to Goodreads.

just finished the sequel. 4/5 again!

again i obviously enjoyed it as i devoured this one too 😅 but as others have said, there were too many similarities. i had assumed this time the wife will be the psycho so that was apparent from the beginning to me. i also had a sneaky feeling enzo is the stalker in the mazda car. but i also thought as she mentioned heart disease for both, that douglas and brock will somehow be connected. all in all, i was satisfied with the ending. i'm glad i read the books but i need a break now! 😅

I misread that as well initially, it was Wendy she was referring to, not Marybeth.

I read the sequel in one sitting this evening, having read The Housemaid last year. I've given it 3* whereas the first book was a 4*.

I haven’t read any of the spoilers posted here so I don’t know if it’s a case of “it gets better” but 🙃 I’m something like 35-40% in and I feel like it’s just… fine? Every chapter I read seems to be more or less the same: main character does completely normal thing, other character loses it, main character baffled.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think why doesn't Millie just get a new identity since that's what Enzo was good at doing for women? She complains she can't get a decent job with her record yet all this time she could have had a new identity 🙈😂

I’ve started The Housemaid’s Secret, 20% in and enjoying it so far. Feeling like it could be quite similar to Verity

I've just got to the bit from Wendy's perspective. So far I'm finding this so far fetched and Millie's relationship with Brock is infuriating. How many times does she need to say she needs to have a talk with him 🙄 I feel a bit like this book didn't really need to be written 🙈 but I'm still intrigued to finish it and find out the twist. I'll probably end up giving it 3 or 3 and a half stars. I know a lot of people are saying it's similar to Verity and I have that on my TBR pile so I'm hoping it's better than this 😂

verity is better imo although saying these books are similar has spoiled it for you a bit 🤫 😅

Took me all of February and some of March to read Betty. Finished the Housemaid in 2 days.

I finished the Housemaid last night and didnt come to talk about it right away because I wasnt sure if my feelings were harsh or not. I read it very quickly and I will always give an author credit for that. For me though I dont think it was very good. I just found it very unbelievable and far fetched. Nina was far too over written to truly suspect she was the bad guy so of course it had to be Andrew. There was no other explanation or red herring. I cant say I'll be rushing to read the second one, I dare say Id sprint through it also but quantity isnt always better over quality. I did actually rate Betty and The Housemaid the same stars and obviously its like comparing apples and oranges however I finish both within days of each other and both were our picks of the month. All of that being said though, I did have The Housemaid on my TBR list and Id have read it at some point even without it being our pick.

I agree!
The parts with Brock were annoying me so much and I got so bored by them but then the rest of the book was decent haha
