Best thing you ever gave up?

I’d really like to give up vaping, it’s so uncouth 🤣 but it’s a crutch atm.
I started cutting my nails after I decided that just biting them as I had done for years was uncouth. I'm pleased with myself for doing that, so, for me, that's the best thing I gave up.

Yes!! I used to do my full routine when leaving the house. Now I do my brows if I’m lucky!
I’m the same! Since covid and all the quarantining I now go out all the time without any make up on. I would never have done this before march 2020. I now wear makeup about twice a week and feel completely fine not wearing any

Diet Coke, Coke Zero and Pepsi Max - it was a bleeping nightmare trying to give that up, I gave up alcohol easier than giving up zero sugar drinks.

What do you drink instead? If I don’t have coffee I’ll have a Pepsi Max, but I don’t like fruity squash or juices, plain water or herbal teas. Actually I did drink water with a bit of PLJ concentrated lemon in it for a while as it’s not sweet but very sharp, probably not good for teeth either!

I sometimes drink squash and fizzy water, I will treat myself to a can of coke or Pepsi every now and then but I will restrict myself as I found it very hard. I also make a lot of caffeine free iced tea to substitute the cola addiction 😂

Re the diet coke/ pepsi max addiction i have been addicted since I was 14. I swear there is something in them that makes them addictive and im not talking caffeine etc because I looked into it there is less caffeine in a can of diet coke than in an average cup of tea. I wonder what it is ...

I did give them up for about 6 months over the summer but my weight started creeping up so I started to treat myself to a diet coke in an evening and before I knew it I was addicted again (but weight went down).

I recommend you listen to dr Chris and Xand van tullken’s podcast - addicted to food. They talk to a bunch of experts about how big companies get us addicted to their foods by branding, noise etc. They reckon that things like coke and Pepsi have the amount of sugar or sweetener that is does because it’s to mask the salt and chemical taste. They even manufacture the cans to make that swshhh noise when you open it cause that will trigger the release of dopamine in your brain. It’s fascinating

My bet is on aspartame and similar sweeteners. Had a brief diet soda phase myself, it was challenging to stop reaching for it. (A friend of my drinks a big bottle everyday and refuses to listen to reason. I'll be surprised if her teeth are intact by the end of the decade tbh.)

I will take a look, thank you. Funnily enough I do like the 'click hiss' noise of opening a can 😬

Coca Cola. I wasn’t addicted to it but it was one of the only things I would drink as from a young age I never liked water, water would make me physically gag to even have in my mouth and I was constantly in hospital on drips for dehydration lol, when I was at school/college Coca Cola was one of the easiest things to pick up and drink…. But I felt like tit and looked like tit and just snapped one day and cut it out, started dieting. Went onto the fizzy flavoured water instead and then managed to drink actual, non-flavoured water 😱 I love it now.

Still can’t touch Coca Cola though and it’s been six years. I hate the weird fuzzy feeling I get on my teeth and how tit it makes me feel.

Sugar in my tea. I want to give up sugar generally but haven’t managed that yet.

Facebook & Twitter. Took about 2 weeks & then I didn’t miss it at all.

Would also love to hear how anyone gave up Diet Coke/ Pepsi etc. I have it bad & it has to be a can specifically so that buys into the dopamine things definitely.

Did you substitute it with anything else 😂😂😂?
Faux pen. Like real pen but not attached to the man that you don’t really need. You can put it back in the bedside drawer once your done, it doesn’t blackmail or gaslight you and makes you come every time
