This doesn’t reflect well on us.
Girrrrrllll we’re a gossip site not the Vatican Council

If you wanna harshly judge other users and demonstrate your moral superiority then Mumsnet is thataway

Although….WAIT! I heard the Presenter hired a super expensive internet manipulation agency to cleanse social media. Are you part of them? If so, are you being paid £35k per hour?

Genuinely I do not know whether my heart can take much more of this I note with interest that the Sun aren't reporting this letter business yet and that they are framing the police involvement as "police are hunting for evidence of criminal activity" whereas the police statement was pretty clear that no investigation is being undertaken.

RE the 10pm news tonight, no matter if it’s true or not surely he’s still suspended anyway so won’t be on regardless?
Well no, because for the 34728392927th time, we don't actually know for sure if it is HE who has been suspended or not at this point.

Also vile to accuse and name a man of being a nonce but yet here we are all talking about it.

I’m sure The Sun must have seen some evidence, otherwise they could say anything about anyone( I know I know). They would have run the story past their legal team. Nah somethings off about this.

The problem is that it appears the two did have some sort of relationship because the young person hasn't denied it

It's been whipped up as a frenzy against the BBC more so than him, so making apologies for it publicly won't change a thing

I don’t read the sun at all but nowadays stories like this can only be published with evidence and a legal team, someone on this morning said something along this. So IF they saw evidence, then who’s lying?
The whole Johnny Depp trial was not about whether he was a wife abuser but whether The Sun had a reasonable expectation that Johnny Depp was an abuser based on the information they had. They won, this is no different. If the Mother came to them with (potentially fabricated) evidence then they can print the story.

True, others have done similar.

I think the Mum was just trying her best to stop the money & by saying '17' to The Sun it made the story get reported. The young man could still be telling the truth & it not be from a payoff etc

I'm still really disturbed by the 2 members who seem determined to find HE innocent, and keep victim blaming the lad, his parents etc

Frank Bough - that avuncular figure in the cosy pullovers. Was what he did illegal? That was a shocker and he fell on his sword so to speak.

If it's not true, why the suspension? The Sun must've made the BBC aware of the evidence they have, and possibly shared it with them. As someone said earlier, why did the young person wait until now to say it's not true? Why let so many people be thrown under the bus over the last 72 hours?
Why would a supposed caring mother very concerned about drug use tell such lies? Why hasn't Huw made a statement as no one elses name is being bandied about anymore? None of it makes any sense!

ETA: Agree with poster who said this could be a distraction. But why ruin the career of a much beloved news anchor? I just don't get it.

It’s up to the Sun to show any evidence to support their story if not it will only confirm to some people it cannot be described as a newspaper.

GB news usually do the next day paper front pages I think around 10.30 not sure but will be interesting to see what the headlines are.
