Bare or hair down there?

Do you shave/wax your girl parts before seeing your gynecologist?

I have an appointment coming up with a gynecologist. It's still far away enough that I can switch my look down there.

I don't know what the standard is... Do I go in bare or bushy? I'm scared if I go in hairless that they'll think I'm a porn star, and if I go in bushy they'll think I'm gross and untamed.

What do other people do for these types of appointments? I've been thinking about this non-stop, it's already embarrassing enough to open your legs and be examined.

They’re used to seeing hair. If it’s quite unruly and you are self conscious you could give it a trim but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary unless the hair is halfway down your thighs!

I used to go with a short landing strip, but now I prefer going Commando.

Don't really care what the examiner might think, and quite frankly she's probably seen more "lady gloves" than I've had hot dinners:LOL:

As someone who sees a lot of vaginas I can categorically state we don't give a duck about your pubic situation. Do what feels good for you.

I was a practice nurse for 10 years and spent most of that time doing smears. I can honestly assure you that they will have seen it all and couldn't care less what it looks like. It is far more important that you feel comfortable enough to actually go to the appointment and be seen so vo with whatever you are happiest with 👍

Out of interest, what was the most common ‘look’? I grew up with the mindset it had to be completely bald but I’m not convinced anymore.

I know you weren't asking me but the most common look is the bare plucked look. Though the bush is making a comeback slowly.

Bush is back.

But health is far more important than any fashion statement. Just go and have your appointment.
Hope all goes well

They know the function of pubic hair so they're not going to care.. When I had my last smear test she said 'we're looking up the hall not at the front door'. They literally don't care.

Oh I've seen it all!! Pink and vajazzled, plucked bare and the full bush. Given I've mainly worked in the depths of the Highlands, its mainly been the full works, too cold up here 😂😂

I've had a full bush for two years now, and in all honesty it's the best. I have had a smear and a coil fitted in that time and the nurse couldn't give a duck what my pubes looked like!

Hmmm I’ve never really considered what I do down there for those types of appointments. Whatever I’m comfortable for my boyfriend to see I’m comfortable for a dr or nurse to see. I’m more worried about making sure I’m clean and not wearing novelty pants 😅

I've always considered it, even during childbirth 🙈 I obviously couldn't reach certain areas, so it was a full bush and I was embarrassed. I just want to be standard, I don't want to stick out.

Thanks for all your input, I'm going to go by what the majority said on the poll.

Your gynaecologist really won’t be interested in your public hair. They honestly don’t even bat an eyelid - they see umpteen women day in, day out.

do whatever makes you feel comfortable- that’s all that matters.

I used to shave it completely when I was younger, even though it was so time consuming and gave me super bad ingrown hair and irritation, purely because society can make you feel it is gross not to. I'm late 20s now and don't care or bother now just trim it now and again. I went for a smear and to have my IUD checked with it full and was only bothered about being clean.

Do whatever makes you feel more comfortable. If no one was going to see, would you shave it or leave it? Whatever the answer then try and go with that and screw what anyone else thinks. Doctors and nurses definitely won't be judging, and if they do then it says more about them anyway.

I know it's not that easy when it comes to insecurities but life is way too short to worry about your body hair. ❤
