I live in the strangest house. From September to April, it is freezing even with the heating on all day. From May onwards, downstairs stays fairly cool but upstairs turns into an oven on really hot days. You can actually feel the heat as you walk up the stairs - just like when you get off a plane at your holiday destination and it hits you

We live in London so no chance of leaving a window open and temperatures were up to 37C last year - one night, I woke up in the middle of the night and thought I was being cooked alive - plus I have MS, which generally responds very badly to heat, humidity or mugginess (mine does anyway) so we bought a really decent second hand air conditioning unit to save going to stay in a hotel!
I tell you, it has been an absolute godsend. It's noisy but tolerable. We put it on early evening and the room is cool enough to sleep in by the time we go to bed. It goes off then and I have a fan on me to keep me cool enough to sleep. Sometimes, if one of us wakes and the room has heated up again, it goes back on for a hour. The room is
gross again though by the time you wake up - even the bed feels hot - and I have to get up immediately. We only use it on really hot nights though like tonight.
But it's worth every penny of the £350 we spent on it!
Oh and this is a great fan - it doesn't just move the heat around, it actually makes you feel cold! I've had mine for years and couldn't be without it. I actually used to take it into work with me on hot days as the office wasn't air conditioned
It's from B&Q.
