Does anyone else stick to a job because they don’t know what else they’d do??

Someone on my team will literally turn any conversation we have into something that is vaguely similar to where he used to work. Literally, anything 🥴. Mind you, he left there years ago and actually left before he was pushed 👀. It’s great that he is so passionate about his old career, but it relates to absolutely nothing that he does now. I’m the only patient one that listens to him on the team, but even now, I begin to zone out. Shut up talking about yourself, mate 🤯

yes and I also feel at a point in my career now that I’m trapped by my earnings, so to start something new I’d be taking a massive pay cut and a single income household my outgoings are very dependent on my current salary. I’d love to have the freedom to try something new and I have great admiration for people who take the risk it just wouldn’t be me

Same here. I do like my job but it consumes my life. I want a job that doesn't impact my life and I can forget about. But I would lose so much money.

omg me 🥺 I’ve done my job for so long that I just have no idea what else I would do. I’m great at my job, get good reviews every year I just don’t know what else I would do. I have idea what my skills actually are!

I think for me it’s identity too, I would be happier in a different job I’m sure, but I can’t seem to walk away, whenever I leave I go back! It’s like I can’t untangle myself from that ‘position’

Funny how the same people who take weeks to complete tasks or respond to my emails (or just completely ignore them) want me to immediately jump on their requests. I should make them wait weeks like they love to do.

"Hi X,

Just acknowledging your request. I'll attend to this once I have completed my list of priority tasks.

Regards

Y".

Two can play at that game etc

They don't even do me that simple courtesy. They just completely ignore my emails. So if I were to play their game I would either ignore their request or I would let it sit for six weeks.

I normally find that asking them a specific question that requires them to document it as their responsibility results in them changing their mind - or at least leaving me the Hell alone again.

Managers helping you with your job to get out of doing their own jobs

My workplace has a current obsession with my face, tone and general personality at the moment. Most recent convo was around me looking more “interested” in Monday meetings but everyone in that call looks like their soul has left their body, no convos with them about it though. I feel like I can’t do anything without having some kind of comment about it.

Or other people's, anything to avoid them doing the job they're paid to do. Do we have the same manager?
Probably 😂 what ducked me off most was I had nothing to do because he was a martyr helping me so I finished my work 10 minutes early. And he ducked off to a meeting and I sat in the bogs for my last 10 minutes

Someone asks my manager to do something and he says no, that's not the proper process. So they ask me to do it, thinking I'm stupid or gullible and I won't know any better 🙄 Guess again!

One of our managers decreed that a particular job was to be done by assistants. Except quite often, he will decide to do the job himself but take one of the assistants off another job to keep him company. Make up your mind!

I have a dilemma; my line manager is a rude bully and has consistently picked on someone/anyone in her own team (me included) all the time I've known her, for several years.
Her latest 2x victims have taken out a grievance and I've been asked to go and meet with the manager who is investigating the situation.

My dilemma is that I want to talk but I don't want anything I say to get back to my line manager - she's going to know that anything from years ago can only have come from me as I'm the only long standing member of staff.

She's snappy and sarcastic - all her previous victims have moved on to new jobs - but she's actually ok-ish with me cos I won't play her games, I've previously told 3x managers exactly what she is like.

I just feel like I'm in a really vulnerable position - I could speak out and say all the things she's done over the years, but I feel it's likely to blow up in my face. Obviously I don't want her relentlessly bullying colleagues, but she's ok with me - it's just so awkward 😔

Had some new starters last few weeks, they are till trained but absolutely bone idle, when not serving customers they are either stood there, arms folded or on their phone swigging an energy drink whilst I'm sweating my bits off order picking, shelf stacking & generally fetching & carrying, I'm not the only one who has noticed either but nothing is ever done & get the usual 'they are new' blah blah, I know for a fact I wouldn't get away with it so why should they especially as they are mostly young & I'm mid 40's doing hard manual work!

Are you able to maybe tell them about what she's like without putting a date on it? So be vague about when these things happened but still be able to explain enough that they will get a better picture of her behaviour?
