I do understand that HR exists to protect the company, but how does asking a simple question threaten the company? I just asked why the time recording system hasn't been working properly for the past few months and if it was a known issue. I didn't ask how much insurance the company carries or how much they'd pay out if I got hurt or something.

I got a text on my personal phone at 8.01 from my TL asking if I was ok (I usually start at 7) I could’ve logged on at 7, but decided not to. My laptop was opening everything up and she messaged me at 8.07 and has booked a meeting in with me this week to arrange what days I start at what time.
if I don’t log on at 7, I’m obviously going to log on at 8. If I’m not online by 8.30, then you can start contacting me on my personal phone. Ffs.

And I'm guessing that while your every move is being watched - a meeting FFS - others are suiting themselves. I know that type of team leader/ manager. 🙄
I asked one time if it was okay to start and finish a bit earlier than normal because there was a bus strike threatening, and a friend had kindly offered me a lift as they were going to be driving to their (nearby) workplace.

Well the hemming and hawing that went on. In the event, the strike didn't happen, but anyway.

The sooner I leave here, the better. The other Friday, I logged off early due to a dental appointment that I reminded my TL about the day before. I left my laptop on and just went. When I came back, I sent the TL a message on teams saying I was back. She said “*insert co worker’s name* asked where you were and I said you were at the dentist”. So my teams status was being checked even though “it’s not accurate”. The co worked must have been trying to stitch me up, but she got egg on her face as my whereabouts were known, ha bloody ha. The week after when we were in the office, she asked me how it went at the dentist. I so wanted to ask how she knew, because I hadn’t told her. She goes offline for lengthy times throughout the day, but I don’t try and “snitch” on her to the TL. They’re bum chums, anyway 🙄

Christ, I work with a right nosy cow.

We work in professional services and have to do a set yearly anti-money laundering and GDPR courses. One of our secretaries told the other secretary that she didn't think there was quizzes on it this year, so she clearly hadn't done them but the other secretary knew there was quizzes on it which you have to do to "complete" the course. A few of us had an email chaser today to finish the courses as we'd missed modules etc, but the secretary who did do the quizzes is so hung up on the other secretary having not done the quizzes. She's brought it up four times this morning alone. She even mentioned it to a covering secretary and said "well I won't mention any names as I don't want to drop her in it" and I'm like just send her a bleeping email saying "heads up, there were quizzes" ffs? or just don't mention it at all?

I'd love to have so few problems in life that whether or not my colleague had done the quiz at the end of a training course was the thing I fixated most on.

When someone hasn't had time to read your email because they're 'immensely busy' yet they had time to spend 15 mins standing in the kitchen chatting and eating leftover food from a meeting.

Coworker who tried to catch me out when I was at the dentist the other week had a meeting with our line manager today (who we rarely see as he lives at the other end of the country). She expressed her frustration that our lazy colleague will openly play games on his phone, watches videos, leaves the office an hour early, when wfh, he goes offline all the time…. And our line manager isn’t remotely bothered. Btw, these 2 people have a close relationship, so I’m surprised the didn’t take it on board what she was saying to him.
It looks like, as long as the minimum work is done, he’s ok with it 🤷‍♀️🤷
However, the rest of the team are snowed under with our projects. Resentment is building sideways and I’m worried we will all turn against each other.
I actually had a meeting with my line manager the other week as we all had to go through our personal objectives for the year. I did speak to him at the end of it and said I had I felt like expectations weren’t consistent across the team etc. I didn’t name names. I said some people take advantage of being allowed to be flexible and their availability and I’ve noticed certain patterns. My LM said I was going to have to dumb it right down for him, but I said I didn’t want to go into detail. He said if people aren’t doing their hours, he needs to know 😑. We ended it with him telling me he was back at our office the next week if I wanted to think about it, and we could have a catch up again, but then that came around and he never approached me and I wasn’t sure if It was even worth bringing up again. So, I just left it.
I didn’t tell my co worker today that I’d said anything to our LM when she was fuming about her meeting today. He (the LM) must know who I was talking about. I just needed to protect myself and not name anyone.

Staff putting work on for the next day for a coworker (me) to follow up when they could have done it themselves is so annoying! I also put something on to be followed up on the 2nd and what a surprise they couldn’t be arsed and it’s been put back on for me again this week?! why when it should have been escalated/dealt with by now! 😤😏

We once found an envelope of someone’s fingernail (and toenail!!!!!) clippings during a desk move. People are absolutely bleeping rotten.
I used to work with someone who do this. Years ago, in a call centre - she would pick off all her finger nails and leave them strewn all over the desk. We used to hot desk too so 🤢

She also claimed to be allergic to all fruits and vegetables, and ate flapjacks for breakfast.

I used to work with someone who was big into crystal healing woo.

Her desk was covered in them. If anyone mentioned not feeling great or any sort of illness, she would go to her desk, pick whichever crystal she felt was most appropriate and tell the lucky recipient that they could have a loan of it until it had done its healing work.

She didn't like our scepticism, so would go on some crystal healing forum to ask for advice. She would get the same advice every time "You need to buy more crystals from our online store."

Every now and again, there would be a mad rumble and clatter as her entire crystal collection would avalanche to the floor.

Sat opposite someone once upon a time who had a large selection of cuddly toys 🙄 on the partition between her desk and others, including mine. I may or may not have helped some of them to fall onto her desk when I was alone on the office. It's the small things y'know. 🤣

I worked with one of those as well, different company.

I think I mentioned her before, she used to come into work in her dressing gown and pyjamas some days when she was running late or just couldn't be arsed getting dressed. Her desk, and the empty desk next to hers, as nobody would sit near her because she was completely nuts, were covered in cuddly toys in various shades of pink.

A former manager had a small safe in the kitchen which he kept his special coffee in. One day, the safe was kidnapped and a ransom note was left on his desk (not by me). He absolutely flipped his lid. It was hilarious.

We had no choice, in our case. No empty desks.
I'm just thankful now she didn't come in to work in her nightwear but she would definitely have been told not to, if she tried it.

There wasn't much management could do.

There was a dress code but, as it was an IT company, the dress code was drawn up when the staff was 100% male-oriented and no women worked there at the time.

Us males had to wear a collar and tie with slacks/chinos and no trainers or boots.

Women could wear what they liked as there was nothing to say otherwise.

My boss clearly has too much bloody time on her hands today asking me to complete something that was left for me to do from my colleague yesterday (who always seems to leave stuff for me never other people) my point being if it was so urgent to follow something up why did said colleague not do it herself 😤

Headed off another bright idea from management that would have led to us breaking the law this week. It gets really tiresome when they decide something's a great idea and send out the instructions without asking somebody who knows what they're doing for their opinion/suggestions first. Although there was also another instruction that was also a 'consultant's' genius idea that wasn't physically possible, but I got around that by pointing out what we already have in place that just needs to be out of approval limbo/the black hole of never wanting to make a decision meant it wasn't a problem in the first place.

Also - one manager pontificating over an analysis, stating that it clearly supported exactly the opposite of what it showed, one 'the consultant wants to know why you haven't done this' 'Umm, because it's already covered by this and their instruction is founded upon the complete absence of any knowledge?', one 'Here's the emails I sent you seven months ago requesting approval.' (can I assume by your ranting and shrieking email that this is approved now?), and two occasions of 'Can you just...now, I need it NOW' being answered with 'No. I can't, unless you wish to inform the chief exec that you've instructed me to drop everything? And whilst we're at it, it is not a 'just' anything, it requires <long technical explanation using as many big words as possible>. I need a week minimum, preferably ten days, to have any reasonable chance of doing it around everything else I'm on a deadline for.'

I've got a week off now. I'm not logging in at all - if the entire site is nuked from orbit in the next nine days, I guess I'll deal with it when I turn up to a smoking crater.

I was asked to "continue to chase" someone to do something I originally requested three months ago and already repeated the request twice more. No, I will not "continue to chase" a grown ass adult. They'll either do their job or they won't. I refuse to beg people to do what they're being paid (quite well) to do. If they don't do it, oh well.

We had a cyber attack attempt last week and a guide on how to avoid this in future was sent out. Management sent out then an (I think) obvious test of a "there has been a failed log in attempt, please access the link to confirm this" and one of our secretaries received this. She then got an email this morning to say that another secretary had received the same email, and that she'd sent it to all of the secretaries to tell everyone to "watch out for it". Surely that beats the objective of a phising email test? Silly people
