I used to work in social for a brand and Alexa was doing an event for us. She was chatting to someone before the event started and I was nudged to go and speak to her to ask if we could get some pics for our social channels.

I really didn’t want to interrupt, but I suppose in that job you sort of have to, but it was SO AWKS and she was pretty rude and basically just told me to go away which in a way, fair enough, but also….come on, I’m a 25 year old social media exec working for the brand that is paying you, could you maybe see that I want the ground to swallow me up right now and just be nice?

She’s starting to become slightly tragic, the extreme thinness, the extreme try hard “edgy” fashion … fighting to stay relevant. I don’t feel bad saying this as we used to mix in the same circles and she’s not pleasant (UNLESS you are more famous than her AND zeitgeisty or just unbelievably cool AND not as good looking as her). The effortless vibe is a big myth too .. I used to see her taking ages to perfect her “undone” look in the toilets - back combing hair etc .. she is VERY into what she looks like.

I know this is supposed to be a rave thread, but you could never get me to like Alexa Chung. She just oozes superciliousness and clearly looks down on almost everyone who isn’t as thin and pretentious as she is.

I also hate the way she used to constantly reference being anorexic in her youth, like she hasn’t been a functioning anorexic her whole life. Almost like a plausible deniability thing. I remember an interview she once did for (I think?) The Guardian, where she said something like “I look back at old modelling photos and think to myself, you looked so rexy” almost like a wink and a nod to fellow ED girlies who would understand the reference.

Not surprised at all! I met her too in London during an event : she did a Collab for an eyeliner brand Eyeko (?) ages ago and well I ended up telling her happy birthday since I remembered we were born the same month and back then I was mildly fangirling since I was blown away by how pretty she was in real life! I was also shocked how slim she was....
she looked down at me with a weird air of disgust and say ahhhh. Thanks. That was about 10 years ago but I still remember how humiliating it was. Well I was just trying to be nice. I never ever bought and cared about what she did after that encounter. I was about your age too 25 or 26!
she was with her friend daisy lowe who was really sweet and my boyfriend was very charmed by daisy!

I did an acting course with her, and we shared friends from that (all male, she didn’t want female competition). I’ve been out at things with her a fair few times. I think if she likes you and you’re in the clique, she’s a decent friend, but the whole self deprecation thing is a big act (in case you hadn’t worked that out) … she’s not humble or modest in any genuine way. You get people that are very good looking and have that natural goofiness and coyness; Harry Styles, for instance. She is much colder and can be very rude. She was incredibly rude to a lovely Dutch gay guy I know, who is handsome, charming (but not cool) - I only mention his sexuality as he wasn’t “cracking on” to her .. that was obvious.. he didn’t know who she was and said he recognised her from somewhere and was she a model that worked at one of his events (she just laughed in his face and walked of). He is the sweetest guy and everyone likes him. She is incredibly striking in real life and was more so (IMO) when she was on T4 (at this time of the course) and was a healthier weight. Her face is naturally quite full and I often wonder if the extreme dieting was to get that thin face she wanted to photograph more “edgy” and modelly. I also have a naturally full face as have eastern genes and it really is the last place you will lose weight when you are made like that. She was before models with fuller faces like Lily Cole and of course more recently, Gigi Hadid and Lila Moss. I think without the natural fuller cheeks her chin looks out of proportion and slightly manly.

I think her “endometriosis” is just a smokescreen for her hospitalizations due to anorexia. At her age and her weight she would have been hospitalized on various occasions due to dehydration and malnutrition. She may appear happy but there is clearly a lot of darkness there that she covers up. I would be very surprised if she doesn’t rely on a stimulant like adderall to suppress her appetite

its kind of shocking and very sad how she’s managed to stay apparently functional at a high fashion model body weight for so many years… usually models who starved themselves in their 20s for their career are able to retire after and gain some much needed weight.

I hope Alexa is able to get healthy and find a place in the fashion world where she doesn’t need to compromise her health to be successful but it does seem like her income depends on her fitting into sample sizes and attending events to stay relevant

Yes, "pick me girl" is a good way to put it. I read an interview with her somewhere where she talked about how her first boyfriend (who was much older than her. Enough to know better...ew) really introduced her to a lot of music, so she could say things to subsequent beaus like "Oh, you've never heard of X-Ray Spex?" Also, she said that instead of people saying "You look great today", she much prefers it when they say "Oh, you sound clever today, Alexa." I mean, yes, not everything is about physical appearance, and I do think her intelligence set her apart from the rest of the skinny and pretty fashion crowd, but she wouldn't be where she is today if she wasn't also skinny and pretty.

She was so good at it.
I see now with hindsight it was probably a way of propping up her already ailing clothing company.
She is always someone that in theory I should find annoying, but when I see her interviewed she seems funny, clever and nice.

Maybe from years of dating her upper crust ex-boyfriend? I'm not British, so I can't really detect a difference; I do think she was purposely putting on a "fancy" demeanor at the beginning of the video. I get this love/hate feeling with Alexa in videos, where sometimes it seems as if she's trying to prove that she's the wittiest person in the room. But then she'll say something where I'm like "Okay, maybe not, you're cool again."

Exactly! Always has to say something to make her different from others - saying Karl lagerfeld liked her as she asked a question he hadn’t heard before/ was in vogue for an article on tomboys… the more I think back and watch her now I realise how she sounds like a pick me girl

Alexa Chung just feels nostalgic to me now, like she’s past her hey day and she’s never really moved on with life.

I used to watch her getting ready in the morning when she hosted some music show (I think?) her clothing was always amazing, she was very 00s stick thin and she had a cool boyfriend which to teenage me, was all a girl could ask for.

Now I’m not really sure what she’s up to? She’s just sort of faded a bit. The super skinny look isn’t quite applauded as much as it used to be. Her clothing line is ending (and she isn’t the fashion muse she used to be). Life has moved on but Alexa still feels the same which is both sad and kinda nice.

Sienna is so beautiful.

I was an extra on something years ago that Sienna Miller was in. She was really friendly to everyone (for the few minutes I saw her close up). Very petite.
Her face was actually lovelier in real life, sort of more boney and interesting than photos convey.

I really like Alexa - yes she's very skinny and clearly has some kind of eating disorder which is worrying but she's hilarious, self depreciating, very cool and unique.

Thank you for putting a pin in this (frankly inane) conversation!! There is nothing that suggests jet-setter, partier, serial-dater social butterfly Alexa would want a kid right now. I really get annoyed with this culture of speculating that any time a woman wants to cover her stomach, wear loose clothing, or do anything out of the ordinary, she must be with child.
