What a curd of a speech it is - even after only a couple of minutes.

Doesn't seem to understand that if you fight in a country, part of that comes nation building - something he thinks isn't their job.

He is clearly trying to justify himself against the widespread criticism levied against him.
They spent trillions over there building an army, creating infrastructure and installing a government - how is that not nation building! The only 'winner' in this entire debacle is the US military industrial complex - stronger than ever.

I've felt really uneasy all evening and I'm just absolutely petrified about the truly messed up world I've brought my babies into 😥

I've literally cried about Kabul today which surprised me but it is so bleeping sad seeing all those desperate people. Knowing the Americans, in particular, abadoned them and that Biden don't seem remorseful at all.

I knew the Americans would abandon them to their fate when they silently left their bases in the middle of the night without even telling the poor afghan soldiers that were protecting them as "they slept". That was absolutely despicable

I wonder what will happen reporting wise. I can imagine it's exciting for news stations now as it's in the early stages, but once the Taliban settle in and life goes on I can see it just being a case of 'Well, that's that'. And it will just vanish from the news stations like so many other stories do.

I don't think it will. The West will be VERY concerned as this will become the new training ground for extremists. Watch the terror threat rise over the coming months. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some attacks in the next 6 monts

I think the West will watch from afar and if needs be send in a few drones to remind them who is boss. But if it's all going on in Afghanistan they won't be too bothered. That's basically how Biden said America will play it anyway. I'm sure Boris will come out with some jumbled nonsense as well

I feel like this too.
Me three. It’s so horrifying. I just saw on twitter a video of people trying to hold onto a plane as it was taking off and then falling to their death 😭💔 it’s beyond tragic what is happening my hearts breaking looking at the scenes I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to be out there right now. It must be beyond frightening. My heart aches for them all, especially the young children caught amongst all of this 💔💔💔 holding my babies that little bit tighter tonight we are so lucky to have been born in the U.K. 😭💔

I’m looking for honest news and reports regarding the situation because we cannot trust mainstream media such as the BBC and CNN. Does anyone know of anywhere?

I like Jessica Yellin on Instagram... she is a journalist and focuses on "news not noise." Very factual.

I know this is a super cliche thing to say but whenever there is something diabolical happening I always look for the good people trying to help out. In this situation I’ve read about the U.K. ambassador who has stayed with his staff to personally process visas for people stuck in Afghanistan and also a British man who set up an animal charity who is refusing to abandon his staff and friends and is staying even though he will most likely be of interest to the Taliban. I know these are small things but it helps me to show that there is good in the world, even in the most desperate of situations.

(Here is a link to the gentleman I was talking about who set up an animal charity. He’s trying to raise £200,000 to secure a cargo plane to transport him, his staff and dependants and the animals out of danger https://www.expressandstar.com/news...elp-animal-rights-charitys-staff-leave-kabul/ There is a tweet that links to the donation page)

I think it's going to be a different Taliban. Zoomer Taliban with social media and a slightly greater desire to at least appear they are respecting the rights of their citizens in front of the West.

It's an awful situation but I honestly don't know what the solution is. You can't bring modernity to a feudal people.

Maybe if it wasn't bozo Biden they could have created a safe zone and retreated much more slowly. Badly done.

I didn't know this. Can you send me a link? If true, this is unforgivable. The idiots on the DM going 'err why aren't they fighting for their own country' piss me off. They're feudal peasants not fighting people. They are as vulnerable as feudal peasants were in the Middle Ages. Doesn't mean they deserve this nightmare.

This is what I really don't understand. Yes, I know the occupation cost an obscene amount of money and ran over 20 years. But surely it's of global interest to keep the Taliban at bay? They're just coming back stronger than ever.

I don't think opioid users would take notice of any campaigns to not use, it's not the same demographic as the "party" drugs.

Biden was beyond shameful. He should hang his head in shame. Yes popular to leave, but not pulling out like he did. Today's images will be with him forever.
This is so true, his speech was a complete charade which is being repeated today on all media channels with little scrutiny.

No one is questioning withdrawal - as his speech focused on - but the issue in hand is the execution of the withdrawal. That is the issue and he completely sidestepped that. Classic Western tactic.

As for this ‘we weren’t meant to be nation building’: that’s total crap. The US went in hoping to create a nation in its own eyes. America wanted it to be like America. But it didn’t work and was too expensive. It became a problem. He avoided confronting this too.

I think those images from the airport speak for themselves really.
You could look at Al Jazeera as an alternative. I think they operate out of Qatar.

they just did so many unrealistic things. insisting the parliament was 50^50 men and women for example when women had been denied education for decades and the us (and most ofthe west) falls short on this was ridiculous. there never seems to be long term thinking. as others have said this is now just a huge breeding ground for terrorism, 100% the west will start seeing terror attacks again soon

A plane full of mainly cowardly young males that don't have the stomach to try and protect their homeland. Leaving behind women who are at far higher risk, children and the elderly.
I don’t think it’s fair to call anyone on that plane a coward. They’re all petrified as I’m sure anyone would be if they spent 5 minutes in their position. Their people clung on to a plane that was taking off knowing there was no chance of survival but they’d rather be dead than live through that. There’s are women and children on that plane too. They’re all fleeing from the worst atrocities beyond imaginable.

I mean, we don't know who these people are. If any of them worked with the US/UK forces, the Afghan military, then they were in near certain danger from the Taliban. I can't judge people in a situation so extreme, I have no idea how I would react personally to the events transpiring in Afghanistan were I a civilian over there.
