Its made even worse that the post was about an event he was invited to in a professional capacity for his 'job'. The least he can do is get the one post right. This is the issue. His anxiety NEVER stop him going to a fun event.
Fellow anxiety sufferer here. It took a while and I do still have bad moments, but equally I work a full time job, I still don't understand how your anxiety can be so debilitating you have to hide from workers one day but you can go abroad repeatedly (including to Japan). And yes, the excitement does sometimes help override anxiety, but idk.
