The whole narrative around the men’s hockey team is frankly bleeping mental. Yes Trump is a bad man, yes supporting him is wild. However he is still the president of the USA, the white house is still the White House. Being called by the president is an honour, being invited to the White House is an honour. Yes laughing at a crappy joke from the president is tit but they clearly were chugging the booze like no tomorrow and you’re hardly going to call out the bleeping president of the country when you’re in the middle of a career and life high. People need to go outside and touch some grass. Also if you’re shocked rich white men are right wing you really are insane & you can be right wing and not MAGA!
I saw the women’s team are still planning to go to the White House and have been posting pics with the men so frankly if they sent insulted why does anyone care.
Agree to disagree. I feel strongly about this but maybe it is because I am from the country/area where sports and athletes used to be used as a tool for propaganda, so I am allergic to any signs of this.
I see it as a luxury for the athlete if they live somewhere where they don't have to worry about meeting politicians as it can be indeed tricky situation.
Trump is not some random neutral politician, the times are not like always. And it is clear as day that whether they wanted it or not (and I am not saying all wanted, I think among those who went maybe some are his true supporters but probably most just went along for reasons you wrote about) he totally used the hockey team for his delusional targets because it fits his MAGA narrative.
I would actually say this regardless of whether it was trump or not - the bigger problem is male group mentality, locker room talk, boys being boys so we forgive everything etc. People freaking lose their minds where they are in larger groups
