We are in Milan! I have friends competing (ice dancing) so it's our first Olympics. Super excited except I am surprised - a little - with lack of information, sign posting, and stuff going on in the city.

The AI slop 'art' in the Opening Ceremonies was gross. Pay artists!!!

Enjoyed watching the luge - my mum had it on in the background and of course we both ended up getting heavily invested and shouting "Rubbish!" when some poor competitor was only 2 seconds slower than the others 😂 (jokingly of course)
this is the thing i love most about watching the olympics 🤣

me watching the figure skating yesterday and slowly shaking my head like “he needs to tighten up that triple axel” (i haven’t watched figure skating since the last olympics 🫣)

I’m in tears after Riku and Ryuchi. I’m not sure why I’ve become so invested in them given that I’ve barely ever watched figure skating but I just adore them. I felt awful after their short program last night but my god they have absolutely smashed it today 🥰

So happy for them - and for Shaidorov!

Wow. Malinin really messed up. I guess the pressure really got to him. Everyone was talking like it was a done deal he would get gold - but shows you how easily it can all go wrong! You know, this could be good for Malinin in the long run. It might bring him back down to earth a little.
This is why I love the Olympics. Nothing is guaranteed. Sometimes the underdog triumphs and the big dog gets a lesson in hubris. Just the most incredible drama! You can’t write film scripts like this sometimes 🙌

Awful to hear Vonn crying in pain. Terrible fall, she landed on both her legs which are both screwed already. I thought it was stupid that she was cleared to race but was hoping she would prove me wrong.

I’m THRILLED for them 🥰🥰🥰 bless Ryuchi the tears. You could see how much he was beating himself up after their short program last night and now look! 🤩🥇 and a world record to boot apparently!?

Ok I am biased because I love Italian shows, but it only started and I already love it 🥰

Also, never forget the wonderful fever dream that was Paris Olympics' Opening Ceremony

Why does double luge exist? It’s so weird 😂 I’m sure luge used to be a singles only event.

I mean the second person contributes literally nothing apart from extra body weight and a second pair of hands during the start!

I have every sympathy with him, but it's a very difficult situation, because if that was allowed, what happens when someone else wants to do something similar for someone controversial like Osama bin Laden etc?

He may have given it more publicity by competing and taking every opportunity to to mention the deaths.

Totally agree - it’s such a hard situation. And like you say where do you draw the line. But can’t help but have admiration for him for sticking to his principles waning to honour his fellow fallen athletes

Also I thought it’s even harder because these were all athletes not just random people of that makes sense

I mean, Shaidorov skated in that last group as well and managed his program without a single fall. So unless he was the one to destroy the ice, I think the four skaters after him all simply lost their nerve. He went into his skate being fifth, so he probably just thought he was too far from the podium anyway. And the other four ahead of him just stumbled at the prospect of being very close to medals.
I hope none of the skaters themselves pick up the bad ice talk, in order to diminish Shaidorov‘s win. So far it seems media and fans claim this as fact. Mailinin is not the first skater in Olympic history to collapse under intense pressure.
