It ‘s quite something to consider that in a country of 150 million + people. Joe Biden and Donald Trump are considered the best two candidates for president.

Might as well Vote Elmo…..

I have one question. Why do Brits think they understand American politics? It has taken me years to learn it all and I am an American. I don’t know diddly squat about British politics other than the Constitutional Monarchy.
Michelle Obama is not now and was never interested in running for President. It ain’t gonna happen. Kamala is it and we are 100% behind her.
I can’t help but wonder if some Brits with their dislike of immigrants coming into their country to Trump and the Republican Party in the US, since they hate anyone not white. Whatever the reason you better pray Trump doesn’t win or life as you know it will end.
Would you not rather we tried than remaining ignorant? The American president isn't just your own, it's a global position of power that as you highlight, affects us all. We would all do better to learn about eachother's countries and the politics behind them because it's all linked at the end of the day. People can dislike Trump and not think Kamala is a strong candidate at the same time, can you honestly say you've never had an opinion about goings on in a country outside your own? Just because we can't vote doesn't mean we don't have valid thoughts and opinions.

There was a moment when he got up from the ground where he looked absolutely terrified - and very old. I'm certainly no fan but that must have been a complete shit your pants moment for him.

I just don't get how two very elderly man are the apparent only options to Govern a country with a population of nearly 350 million people....

I’ve no time for the Conservatives but at least Rishi Sunak had the decency to acknowledge the will of the people and concede defeat gracefully (in stark contrast to Jan 6th).
He also wished his successors well and expressed a hope that they would do their best for the country.
A no doubt brief, but none the less refreshing, hiatus in the cut and thrust of politics.
Meanwhile Trump couldn’t stop his vitriol for one empathetic second to show even a crumb of humanity in the face of his old rivals defeat. Horrible bastard.

Is that supposed to be big or clever? Doesn't look it to me, just looks like a cringey and very planned technique that someone's rehearsed their performing automaton to do.

She going to do that when she's facing off with Putin or Xi Jinping? They'll just laugh at her.

Oh well, if this bag of nothing is really what US voters want and the best they can find ... have fun I guess.
I don’t think that many people think Kamala Harris is a GREAT candidate. However, she’s the candidate and hopefully the next President.
It’s a very low bar, but calling her a “bag of nothing” when she’s up against a racist, treasonous, lying, convicted rapist is a hell of a choice.

This election is wild. One of the most talked about debates of all time, a shooting, a 78-yr-old making fun of an 81-yr-old for being too old, one of them is a felon still embroiled in criminal trials, one of them is suspected to be totally senile, they went on tv and argued about their golf game, there was a party mutiny to get one of them to stand down, he spent weeks insisting he'd never stand down and now he's stood down.

I can't wait for the next episode.

People arguing Kamala is ‘incoherent’ or ‘not qualified’: you do listen to Trump right? Or is there ‘something else’ driving your alleged perceptions?

I’m not usually on this thread but just had to pop over after seeing the shocking footage from the Trump rally. Thoughts are with everyone hurt and terrorised, and once again am thankful guns are not commonplace here in the UK.

She is though. What has she done or achieved since being VP, other than give the same speech over and over?

If she wins it's because she was fast-tracked into place after the mad scramble of Sleepy Joe finally falling apart, and they're only getting away with it because Trump is so awful too. She hasn't earned her place as President, she's just literally "less bad than the other one". That doesn't mean that I can't criticise her. For me the "hell of a choice" is to celebrate and praise Kamala Harris just because she's "not Trump". I presume people are going to go dolally over celebrating her as "First Female President" and "First Black President" etc, but she'll also be "President of Last Resort" and I just don't get why people think that's a good thing.
Well I’d say it’s an achievement for a woman of colour to be appointed VP in the first place.
She’s been the Senator for California, and Attorney General of California and San Francisco.
What exactly did Mike Pence achieve when he was VP ? How did he earn his place?

Look, I get it, I really do. She’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, far from it. And if there was a better candidate then I do think she’d be found wanting in many areas. But there isn’t.
But I do think that bearing in mind the alternative, anyone who thinks that she’d be worse for America in particular and the world in general than Trump has to be genuinely insane.

Sorry but are you having a laugh? He held them all the time when he was president unlike his successor. And he frequently talks about policies unlike the democrats who just seem to be running on an anti trump narritive. Probably because they have no accomplishments and everything has gone to shit since Joe got in.
Donald's team are absolutely shitting bricks at the prospect of him facing Harris in a debate.
Biden was easy to trip up & mock due to his frailties, Harris will hopefully destroy him LIVE on tv.

Kamala has had loads of foot in mouth moments. The biggest thing she has going for her is that she's not Trump and she's obviously more with it than Biden. I'd love to see a debate between her and Trump - he'll say loads of weird non sensical stuff and she'll definitely have a few gaffes as well. They previous poster is right - American political campaigns really go for their opponents personally and it's all about personality rather than politics or policies.
You are wrong. Kamala has a message for the future and that future is what what we the people of the United States want. Freedom from tyranny, free and fair elections, freedom from gun violence, free or affordable health care, a woman’s right to choose her reproductive health, fair taxes, better education for all just to name a few. Not to mention the separation of religion and state. It’s in our constitution and has been drummed into my head since I started school. You can’t possibly imagine the stress and strife that Donald Trump has caused me, my family, and country. This election isn’t about any one candidate, it’s about what is right and wrong, moral and amoral.

I mean she doesn't have to have charisma or wit or be entertaining but who is Camilla? No personality at all showing through, no warmth, no genuine flowing conversation.
She's like a flat carbonated drink.
Nothing endearing or memorable and if she doesn't win the election no one will remember her within a few months.
That's me being kind. Even if my politics aligned with hers I'd find it hard to have any confidence in her as president.
Why does she go on about all the things she would do? Why haven't you done them now, You've been in the white house long enough! 😂
Last time I checked she was the Queen. And I’m fairly sure she’s not allowed to stand for President of another country. 🙄
---
And on the other side people feel exactly the same way. They too are asking themselves how could the election be even slightly in doubt? What kind of a person could possibly vote for Harris?

The problem is we are all stuck in our bubbles and no-one ever bothers to find out how other people see things, what worries them and what their priorities are. When you do that, “they” become a lot less scary and weird. But you do have to make a bit of an effort to find out.
Ooh I don’t know. I guess the kind of people who would rather have a mediocre, but reasonably competent President, rather than a convicted rapist who likes Hitler, hates women and people of colour, and appears to be suffering from severe cognitive impairment.

Well the world didn't actually end last time he was President, despite everyone's claims of doom and gloom and hellfire.
There has been innumerable really terrible people who have done really awful things while in positions of power but 'the world didn't actually end'. Does that mean Trump should be given another go to see if he can surpass his awfulness from last time? Anyone who for even a fraction of a second can entertain the idea of voting for him to be President is off their head.

I'm glad he's ok, it must have been utterly terrifying. I have to hand it to him, that photo is going to go down in history, absolute fucking baller move. If he wasn't going to win already, he definitely is now.

Trump survives an assassination attempt then fist pumps to the audience with blood dripping down his face... Biden calls Zelenskyy Putin and blames his debate failures on travelling too much and having a case of the sniffles... oh dear
