TLDR of the last thread.

People giving off about Slimming World apparently wrecking their relationship with food then writing paragraphs about how to to work out calories which sounds like ten times more effort than Slimming World.

Bollocks to that.
It’s not much effort at all, simply add what food you are eating to the cal counting app rather than logging/writing down your syns 🤷🏼‍♀️
Different things work for different people, cal counting personally worked better for me and made me eat much more sensibly. But SW works well for others.

I quit SW this week & it was definitely because of this thread!👏🏼

Yesterday was my usual SW group day and already have a text from the consultant asking if everything is ok… i have ignored it but so tempted to say I am absolutely smashing - I just had avocado on a WHITE bagel for breakfast & it was splendid &&& I am in a calorie deficit still, nothing absolutely devastating happened after eating said bagel and avocado.

I was afraid of not sticking to a calorie deficit without being held accountable at group but I am even more determined now because I need prove to my consultant when she texts me in a years time to ‘come back’ I can text back and say no thanks, I am 4st lighter and keeping it off!

A day ‘off plan’ had devastating effects to my mental health. A day where I may not be in a calorie deficit is all that it actually is🤷🏻‍♀️ First one would have led to a binge, 2nd one isn’t a big deal & won’t undo all my work!

I could go on forever here but all I want to really say is THANK YOU!👏🏼

I can honestly say, I've lost almost 10 stone following SW, I've not begged once, used not one fucking discount code of any description.

My fave memory so far? was it buying 2xl tops instead of 7xl tops? no...

was it buying 42 inch jeans instead of 60 inch? no...

it was asking beggy ben if he has parkinsons after he followed and unfollowed me about 15 times in 10 minutes 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

For every fraud account there are many genuine accounts out there. You only have to see the commments on their FB posts from people who are just like you, I, your Aunt etc to see that many have successfully lost weight and kept it off over a prolonged period. They’re not after the instafame.

Most of these big accounts are now gorging on processed, sugar ladden shit now as that’s the new bandwagon 😝 They’ll be back - just look at Emily Walters, she’s the biggest flip flop ever.

If you follow it properly it’s a great plan. I ate healthy, home cooked food, we all did as a family. I tried CC/Macro it was honestly so stressful and I found myself eating separately to my family. It wasn’t for me.

Not everyone wants to sit and count calories, they appreciate the syn system and how you can still enjoy a wide variety of food. Yes, that includes the controversial Avocado 🥑 😂 It’s really not depicted as the devil like some Fitness influencers make out 🤦🏻‍♀️ If followed correctly then you are put in a deficit without the hassle of CC (I find it such a faff!) Some people enjoy the social interaction of classes, most consultants are fantastic.

Said it before and I'll keep on saying it...

SW isn't the problem, the dickheads that follow it and twist the plan to within an inch of it being nothing to do with SW are the problem.

Why would anyone who wants to lose weight think "oooh, It's time for a treat" and then proceed to fill a fucking easter egg full of more chocolate than willy wonkas got coming out of his arsehole.

This is why I just won't go back, the guilt! I've been a member on and off for years but I left a few months back and received a copy and paste letter from the consultant recently and I quote: "you were doing so well with your weight loss so imagine my disappointment when you stopped coming to group." Ouch. YOUR disappointment?! 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️
Exactly the reason I won't go back too.

I'd stay the same one week and it'd be "Ohhh shall we go around the room and get some tips for you?"
No. I've lost 8 stone. I don't need tips from the women that have lost and regained the same stone for the past 4 years 😑😂

Following a discussion on Slimming World #4
This is a thread to talk about with like minds who are leaving SW for good and switching to more sustainable and healthy diets.

Many of us who have done SW know it promotes unhealthy eating habits and fear foods. The aim of this thread is to create a space for ex members to rant and ask for advice and support in undoing SW habits.

Whether your lingering issues are -
- fear foods (i.e olive oil)
- constantly looking at food as synful
- still measuring cereals, bread and cheeses and scared to break the habit.
- blaming yourself when you have a gain
- scared of exercise due to a consultant telling you it stops you losing weight.
Or any number of ways SW may affect still affect your diet after you've left..

Feel free to share what you are struggling with or what has helped you take back control of your diet.
Together we can put syns in the bin for good.

I heard this story today and I’ve got to share it with you all because I was rolling when I heard it 🤣

A woman I know was doing SW last year, and her daughter was too. But as Christmas approached they were getting a bit fed up, so decided they’d relax a bit and eat/drink what they liked over the festive period. Then the week before Christmas, the mum got a text from the consultant saying something like ‘Are you ready for a Slimming World Christmas? Here’s what you can do to stay on plan’. By this point mum had well and truly had a titful, so she forwarded the message on to her daughter with a series of finger up emojis 🖕🏻🖕🏻🖕🏻 Except… she didn’t forward it to her daughter, she sent it back to the consultant 😂 She ended up having to message the consultant again saying she’d meant to reply with lots of thumbs-up but didn’t have her glasses on 🤣

i need tattle advice, do I have a right to be angry right now? I will give you the details.

For a while in group we have donated to a member of the social teams daughter, we bring an item of food for slimmer of the week and we also bring a item for the social teams daughter who lives in a town not too far away. We renamed the donation basket to the food bank to protect the daughters identity and dignity, but it’s agreed the donations goes to the social teams daughter as she doesn’t work and struggles financially.

I dropped a food blender off recently for the social teams daughter at her house, when I was invited in, I was asked if I want a coffee and she told me she had just spent £1,000 on a bean to cup machine. Afterwards I thought something doesn’t seem right.

We all had a meal planned for the Woman of the Year at a local restaurant and we paid a £10 deposit each, there isn’t many of us who attend group. 12 all together at the most. The meal was cancelled because of Covid. Rather than refunding out deposits, they have said they will donate the money to the group food bank. Only a few of us know that it is just a name we use for the sake of the social teams daughter. It has caused a lot of anger in the group. The consultant has rang us all individually and has called us mean spirited and selfish and the social team member is angry with us all for challenging it.

Are we in the wrong, be honest?

First post on this thread. I did Slimming World very successfully about 12 years ago. Stuck to the plan 100%, cut out most junk, switched from wine to gin & slim, etc etc. Then damaging behaviours crept in. The classic "don't eat on weigh day and don't drink anything after lunchtime (My weigh in was 7pm). I even started taking laxatives because I NEEDED to lose each week or I'd feel like a total failure. I lost 5.5 stone in 11 months. Won all the awards at my group. LIVED for the thrill of the praise. Then Christmas arrived. I'd been so restricted all year (I didn't have crisps for SIX MONTHS ffs) that I went nuts. Gained 10 pounds in 2 weeks. And never lost it. Kept gaining. Eventually regained all the weight, plus an extra 2 stone, over a period of about 4 years.

I've rejoined Slimming World groups numerous times over the years (most recently joined online a few months ago) but no matter what I did I was never able to replicate how well I'd done the first time. Probably because I'd destroyed my metabolism and mental health with how restricted I'd been tbh. And I couldn't bring myself to starve on weigh in days anymore. I've lost and then regained the same 3 stone about 5 or 6 times now.

I'm now in my mid 40s. I'm probably 5 stone overweight. But I've discovered exercise that I love. I work out 5 or 6 times a week. I feel physically fitter than I ever have. And I'm now trying to address my issues with food. I had a problem with binge eating long before I joined Slimming World. I can't blame Slimming World for that, but it did make it worse as I restricted myself so much in order to "succeed." That's my own issue though and not one I'd blame Slimming World for.

This is a long post and I'm not sure what the point of it is really. But yeah. My life has now been ruled by my weight for over 12 years and I have such a terrible relationship with food. I've started calorie counting and I am finding the binging has reduced as I'm building foods I love into my meals and snacks, rather than eating stuff I didn't love simply because it was "free" food or low in syns. Desperately trying to stop myself from mentally calculating how many syns something is every time I eat but hopefully that will come in time. And I will NEVER eat scan bran "cake" again :D

TLDR: Lost 5.5 stone too quickly. Regained it all. Only now realise how awful Slimming World was for me personally due to my own issues and how much damage it did.

God they’re all awful and most are now on the calorie decifit wagon, but still posting syn values so they don’t lose followers:

When SW was at its peak I followed thousands of these morons. I put furlough to good use and unfollowed them all! I really don’t miss looking at plates of absolutely disgusting slop for food! Packet of savoury rice with baked beans and chopped eggs anyone? No, me either!!!! Lol

Wow. "Apparently" wanna minimise or invalidate anymore?
Having done all the plans including calorie counting lots of times, there is nothing about SW that wrecks a relationship with food. That’s entirely on the person doing it and whatever version they think they’re following.

I calorie counted and always ended up starving as I always left myself with way too few calories at the end of the day having used my ‘freedom’ to make stupid choices. That wasn’t the fault of calorie counting though. That was mine alone.

If you think it was insulting, sorry, but that’s my experience. My disordered eating dated from well before my time using any diet. Hence me needing a diet in the first place.

I can disagree with the first part. I don’t even log my syns anymore, so that’s even less time.

That said, I’m 100% on board with the baked oats and biscoff hate. That’s why I’m here. :ROFLMAO:
The fact that you said in your first post, that calorie counting *sounds like* effort, tells me you're bullshitting that you've actually done it. Also, you've done a great job minimising experiences, by saying "apparently" people have had issues. They have. They're real. As uncomfortable as that is.

I've been a slimming world member now since 2019, and to say I have a love/hate relationship with it would be an understatement. My mrs used to show me all these people that had lost LOADS of weight with slimming world, Jack Towers, Big beggy ben, Mr snares, not forgetting Harry Pickard and his fabled 8 stone loss 😄

"I wished I could do that" I thought. I had a serious health scare in 2019, long story short, I was rushed to hospital and told straight "lose weight or you will be dead soon" my blood pressure was 220/200.

within days I'd joined slimming world for what felt like the 528th time. I used to blag it, eat shit on weigh days after getting weighed, take the absolute piss out of the plan (like those I mentioned above that still do 😉)

But this time, I wanted to do it by the book, after all, my life was at stake now and it was very serious. I saw Ben, snares, even jack towers and thought "I want to be them"

I was 2.5lb away from being 27st when I joined. I was addicted to food, I'd eat a multipack of 26 packets of walkers to myself A DAY, washed down with full sugar coke, I'd go mental if the kids threw anything away and I'd honestly get stuff they'd thrown away from the bin and eat that too...

I lost a stone in my first week, I'd lost 1 and a half stones by week 3

fast forward 3 years, and I've had all sorts of shit from slimming world. They accused me of being a bully and pulled a feature they had planned on me, I've had a slimming world consultant take personal photographs of mine of my children and plaster them all over social media without my permission and their response to it was pretty much "if you dont want it to happen you could always set your profile to private"

Screenshot_20220730-062442_Drive.jpg

I strongly believe unless you are a kiss arse, or you have a look about you they like to promote, they dont want to know..

"Slimming world is for men too" is a recent campaign they ran.. well, this particular member got to target a while back, 12st award and I was voted man of the year in my group all on the same day...I tagged sw in my social media posts and all the rest of it but it was met with silence. I maintained my 12st loss for 3 months before deciding to change my target again, and I've just got my 13st award and got to target again, and was again ignored by sw..If I sound like a bitter bitch, I guess i am but I think it's justified.

Honestly, this may be dramatic but I really feel like slimming world ruined my relationship with food and my life tbh. I actually featured in one of their magazines at one point and was so extremely focused on the diet. I developed bulimia and restricted food so much I was severely underweight, I weighed about 6 and a half stone at my lowest. My mum suffered with an eating disorder too (not as a result of slimming world) and so nobody in my life really stopped me, I also had a job where the desired look was to be skinny.
I had a baby two years ago and found my relationship with food improving, I practically recovered and gained about5 stone overall.
I recently re joined slimming world and all those toxic habits have come flooding back. I allow myself treats on weigh days only which usually result in bingeing and purging. I recently went on a holiday over Easter and gained 1/2lb whilst I was there, I had had some extra treats but was still staying ‘on plan’ whilst there. My’consultant’ text me the next day as I don’t usually stay for group and said she’d noticed I’d had a gain, I should stay for group if I’m wanting to be serious about this and to remember ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’. I have decided to stop going to group and to continue to try and lose weight in a healthier way. I can’t understand the mind set of these consultants who are completely brainwashed into texting someone to force them into staying to their cult group and making them feel guilty over a 1/2 pound weight gain?

sorry for the depressing post but I thought I’d share some of my fave slimming world meals I used to eat religiously 🤢
- scan bran crushed with yoghurt 😭
- quark with options hot chocolate powder
- fat free cottage cheese on scan bran
- Weetabix muffins 🤢
- crustless quiche 🤢
- Lynda mcartney sausages (not a vegetarian and I was somehow convinced by other members that they were delicious)
- quorn chicken nuggets (that Harry lad on insta convinced me they tasted like Maccies ones!)
- frozen muller yoghurt as ‘ice cream’
-I also remember furiously googling whether I could have mashed banana in my porridge or whether I would need to ‘syn’ it 😭

thank you ladies for helping me see the light ♥
---

This happened to me too!! I was in one of their magazines, I don’t want to put myself but they basically made me out to be some fat virgin and thanks to slimming world I had found the love of my life etc etc, couldn’t be further from the truth considering I had a baby at 16 and didn’t join slimming world until I was 20 😭 they didn’t even mention my child in their interview! Just wanted to suit their narrative that slimming world had made me ‘attractive’ and now I’d finally found a boyfriend, something chubby girls could NEVER!
My darling girl, 1/2 lb isn’t a gain, it’s a poo.
