Went shopping today for Christmas bits -alcohol, biscuits, chocolates etc and got my £50 shopping free. I presumed it was only people getting sandwiches for lunch who got their shopping paid for 🥂

I got free mini bites today - which ones are the best?

I am putting together a Christmas hamper for an older gentleman in my neighbourhood. I keep seeing him out and about, and a few weeks ago I realised he always goes to a bakery at closing time and gets a bag of goodies - he doesn't pay for them, he just hangs around the entrance until a member of staff hands over a paper bag, with what I assume are some unsold goods, so I think it's a bit like Too Good To Go, but without the app :(. He looks really kind but also lonely and it moved me so much, I followed him a few times to find out where he lives. The house is dark even when he returns, no way of knowing if he lives on his own.

Yesterday he wore the same coat and hat he always wears but what looked like smart trousers and polished shoes, I thought it was so sweet.

I'm a bit of a loner myself so I wouldn't think of approaching him, but I decided that I will leave a bag of Christmas food by his door, as well as put some extra cash in a card. I don't know his name and he doesn't need to know mine, but I want to make him a gift.

You lot are the only people I'm telling this, since this is an anonymous forum :)

I got some bits at Lidl and Tesco today already, want to buy the Waitrose mince pies and I'll get him some tangerines from M&S. The mini bites too and maybe some cold meats/cheese, I am not buying anything that needs to be cooked.

Wish me luck, I am quite nervous but determined to do this 😊 I hope it works out, although I guess I'll never know!

Went to collect my M&S freebie and they didn't have anything in stock.

Lost a tenner on the street as well, waste of a day.

I watched the two episodes of Inside M&S, and I think they have too many celebrities involved now, and too many variations to everything it gets confusing. They’ve had Gazza B, Holly W, Davina, Tom Kerridge, Fred Sirieix and now Tommy Fury, and none of them make me want to buy anything more than I did before. I’m a shopper in their target range and I’m bored with it. I hate that there’s 10 billion different new products every year and the ones I liked last year don’t come back, the new ones are all weird flavours and I just want a good quality traditional Christmas. No disco Santa, no marmalade light up liquor, no 9 different Christmas tin options, I want them to stop paying millions for celebrities we don’t care about, bring the prices down during austerity and focus on quality over quantity. We want free percies, decent core products and none of us want a neon yellow jumper either 😩

So THIS happened the other day (it pops up after you've totalled your shopping, so no chance of bolting round for more - only spent 8 quid, but hey, every little helps, especially given the fact that I had doubts of it even existing):

Got myself a few yellow stickers in the foodhall this morning, apple pie and a couple of swede and carrot crush , great for the freezer. But my best bargain was an Autograph hooded cashmere cardigan in a gorgeous olive green, it started life as £129 and was reduced to £71.99, todays final reduction £12.99 ❤

I work on long distance trains and yesterday I found myself I my ‘usual’ M&S during my break weighing up with yellow-stickered lunch item to buy. In one hand a Chicken Shawarma Salad, in the other a Korean Style Chicken wrap. In the end I asked the guy that was sorting out the fridges in that area which one he would go for. He looked “oh, that is actually a tough one, they’re both nice…”. I said “actually, don’t worry I’m going to buy both and just have one for my lunch tomorrow”. And at this point he actually made my day (possibly my week) but saying “well let’s see if we can make them a better price…”. Both of them for £3.20 total. I’ve never felt more alive!

I have done the Lord's work and sampled an obscene amount of Party Food, all in the name of research for next year of course ;)

Halloumi Fries - All I could taste was the breadcrumbs, wouldn't buy again
Brie & Cranberry Tartlets - Gorgeous!
Tempura Prawns (Frozen) - Lovely, came out the oven nice and crispy which oven cooked tempura often doesn't, very impressed
Camembert Wedges - Was really looking forward to these, but like the halloumi I found the breadcrumbs over powering, texture wasn't as nice as the McDonalds ones either!
Cheesy Profiteroles - SO GOOD! The person who compared them to melted Laughing Cow isn't wrong but we absolutely loved them, gooey deliciousness
Sticky Asian Style Chicken Lollipops - I absolutely hated the texture of these, I can only describe as like a chicken meatball 😳 I know these are a fan fave though, they were a bit too spicy for me also
Burger Spring Rolls - Pleasingly similar to the Disney version, and our dipping sauce was fine. These rated highly until...
Duck Spring Rolls - Probably the overall winner, and not something we would usually try. Only picked them up because some of you had mentioned them so thank you! Next year we'll not bother with burger ones but still get these, too samey to have both.
Mini Chicken Kievs - Loved these last year, didn't think they fit as a buffet choice overall as best eaten straight out the oven, would have as part of a meal though
Pork Belly Bites - A fave of OH, delicious.
Yakatori Chicken Kebabs - Love that these are thigh meat, so tender and delicious. Very filling though so would prefer for a barbecue.
Chicken Tikki Naans - Very spicy! Liked the idea of these but wasn't wild about texture of the pulled chicken as well as the spicy. Naan was nice though!
Mini Battered Sausages - Awful! Actually wanted to spit it out, I don't know if it was the curry sauce or the actual sausage but very vinegar-y after taste.
Potato Skins - Tasty and cooked well, nice to have something a little more 'normal' as quite an indulgent selection
Spicy Beef Empanadas - Tasted like little mini tacos without the mess, really liked them
Mini Beef Wellingtons - Really good, even fusspot OH loved them. Mimicked taste of real thing well.
Mini Salmon Encroute - These beat the Beef Wellingtons, salmon was very tender.
Posh Profiteroles - Didn't blow me away but I'm a fresh whipped cream lover, a good option for a buffet dessert that won't take up too much space in the freezer
Cornish Cruncher and Cider Bake - Sent from the Gods, could eat it every day of my life

And finally, the one you all want to know about...

Posh Cheesy Beans on Toast - Let me preface this by saying, I would NEVER, and I mean NEVER, eat beans on toast; I am one of those weird folk with an aversion to things touching on the plate. But after all the negative press, I loved these, and if they are back again next year I'll pay the ridiculous price tag again.

Everything had been bought back in November time and frozen and all came out the oven really well, was very impressed.

And, yes we will be consuming leftover party food until approx. January 2023

Have a look how on YT how to make garlic butter - it is not hard.
I love your well meaning comment, but mate…..we shop in M&S….let’s face it, this is not generally the shop for the ‘make stuff from scratch’ gang. Or is that just me? lol

We’re more the ‘don’t want to chop fruit (mark it up by 500% and sell it to me baby!) , can you guys do all the work and I’ll just eat it?’ kinda gang!

My friend informed me that you can make meatballs from scratch the other day. Who knew? I was like yeah but do you know they sell that shit ready made? Eh?🤣

There’s only one place I can share this and it’s mortifying! I’ve been wondering why I’ve had blue wee for a few days. Kept looking thinking god there’s something really wrong with me to have blue wee. Stay with me. Too scared to speak to my GP.

Well I’m glad I didn’t embarrass myself because I’ve realised it’s the bloomin’ dye from the snowflake toilet rolls I picked up on the whoops! That would have been a big whoops! And I’m a health professional 🙈😂😂😂

For the past year I’ve done my weekly grocery shop at the food hall. I’ve easily spent thousands.

I can’t tell if not receiving anything in the draw today means there’ll be a monetary gift tomorrow, or they really are just neglecting their biggest customers
Same. I've spent consistently every week in the Food hall and a considerable amount in store. Spent an eyewatering amount this month alone on gift vouchers, christmas pyjamas etc
If I don't get anything I'm going to go to my local branch and take a big bite out of each yumnut then put them back, then I'm going to open every single bag of Percies and scatter them everywhere and on my way out (before my arrest), I am going to get the fire extinguisher on the snooty bitch who's always in the self checkout area.

🙂

Does the 12 Days Of Christmas just appear as part of Sparks? I can't remember what happened last year.
Yes I believe you have to log on to Sparks every day and click on the wee calendar to see whether you're having Gary Barlow tickets or 7% off National Trust entrance fees after 4pm on Wednesdays 💓

I am thinking of starting a one woman protest about the lack of bags in the bakery. I know I’ve said this before but it’s so unhygienic selling unwrapped bread - I’m meant to buy an expensive loaf that has nothing more than a strip of cardboard to protect its modesty, that’s been prodded, poked and sneezed on by the general public, put it in a filthy basket that hasn’t been cleaned this side of Covid, then put it on a grubby conveyor at the till and then eat it? No thank you - and M&S have the bigger bags because they put the sliced loaves in them but they don’t put them out for the unsliced ones. I am grumpy because I love the boule but I’m not paying top whack for something that’s going to be filthy by the time I get it. I have resorted to taking my own bag and getting funny looks (and getting followed by the unsubtle security guard today) but tell me I’m not weird for hating this? Like I can peel a banana or wash an apple so they’re fine to sell unwrapped, but not bread.

I accept I probably sound like a nut job but I do have food hygiene qualifications and I just don’t get it, in the same way I never got the sudden boom in people setting up home businesses selling snack boxes and grazing tables during a pandemic. Good on them for the entrepreneurial spirit but who, in the middle of a pandemic, genuinely thought that buying unwrapped food off a random person on Facebook was a good idea?
