I much prefer this to some big stand off with Ryan/Catherine/Tommy all together.

Tommy has always claimed he loved Ryan, and he's just shown it. Perfectly in character right until the very end for me.

The whole programme has always been about those two versus each other & I think the way it ended was perfect. I don’t think another scene of them knocking 7 bells out of each other was needed.

Just at the part where Catherine exited the house, after their heart to heart.

I think he genuinely believes he loved her. I need to watch the whole 3 series again, but I think he did.

Is Ann with Daniel?
It was a very clever way (IMO) to show him as a true evil psychopath. He did love her, but he remembers the love and the good. He can’t really remember or washes over the bad he did. It’s just words or meaningless argument in his memory. The bad is blamed on someone else, eradicating his responsibility for it.

Although all the acting has been great, have to say Ryan has been outstanding. Child actors rarely hold their own amongst such standout acting royalty

I’m such a div, I was reading all these thinking TLR stood for ‘The Lone Ranger’, like it was a nickname you’d all come up with back along!

That was too rushed. It should have been a full hour an a half or an extra episode longer to fully develop and resolve the B story.

While the TLR and Catherine story was well handled, where was Ryan? The other characters didn't get a decent wrap up of it

There were a lot of story threads that ultimately didn't get used, like Richard's investigative reporting. Him, Daniel and Ann weren't even in the last episode! Shame we didn't get to see Faisal get nicked, he was practically skipping away when he found out about Ivan and Matija.

But. Can't really complain when the writing was so unbelievably good and we got that brilliant, cathartic, tense, satisfying confrontation between Catherine and TLR. Just them talking. Incredible. The first scene they'd had together since S1? Just sublime. That moment where she walked in saying "Hello?" and he replied "Hiya" like a son coming in for dinner with his mum. He was clearly still a deluded, insane fuckwit but at least he had the wherewithal to realise the woman he despised gave his son a happy life.
One of the most beautifully heartbreaking moments I've seen was that bit where the photo album of Becky stopped. Just blank pages. So harrowing and nothing needed to be said. Gonna miss this show!
The Hiya from TLR had me, so casual!

I’m really disappointed that it’s Claire!

Unless she’s being forced to go there for some reason.
I was thinking, when Catherine met her ex husband in the cafe she was listing all the businesses the Knesovich's (sp) ran and mentioned newsagents. Maybe they own the one Neil works at - Tommy somehow found out he worked there and how he was linked with the Cawood's and as a bargaining chip for him taking the rap for the murder that the gangster family member was involved in, he asked to see Ryan in return. So the Knesovich (sp)family could be forcing them that way

I think Sarah Lancashire had input into that last scene at the grave, not the actual ending. She knew so many people would be rooting for Catherine and want to see her get her trip away (and some peace).

There shouldn't be any spin offs or new series for me, it should end as it is - a top ten British drama series. Hats off to Sally Wainwright for writing something so nuanced, complete and realistic. It just exposes how awful so many of the others are, even those lauded as being great. Line of Duty looks distinctly one dimensional in comparison.

Nah I’m with Anne on that one. Minus the bit about him not being wanted, he needed to be told that TLR is a rapist and a piece of scum!
