) so please bare with me if this comes across as a bit weird.
I think the reason people, including myself, are angry about the whole ‘Dylan/Nike’ thing is because it’s just such performative allyship. Dylan FAMOUSLY doesn’t fucking exercise, or eat well etc, so why the hell should they get to be the one to advertise sportswear? They know nothing about it. They couldn’t tell me if that sportswear is good for actually exercising in, because they haven’t got a clue.
There are actual trans athletes they could have used, who would have been able to speak about how well performing the athletic gear is, but I suspect they weren’t even approached because of *asthetics*. Picking Dylan meant that Nike have almost ‘played into’ the idea that to be a trans woman you have to ponce about in girly frocks all day, which couldn’t be further from the truth. And so it all just comes across completely performative and fake.
