Please do get it in writing. I’m being a bossy boots here, but I was told verbally and then they lied and said they’d told me the opposite. I won, but it was enormously stressful.

It’s ‘good’ that the senco said he wouldn’t cope in mainstream- means you have a stronger case for specialist provision.

Best of luck with the panel.
Hello - panel said mainstream 🙈 so now I have no clue what to do!
Nursery said don’t defer as he is so clever but every other aspect of his life he’s a baby.
But my heart is saying defer x

Currently 7am and my daughter has been awake since 1am, really going through it with her sleep at the moment again😭 just had a mini break down which could just be lack of sleep or the fact I’m 22 weeks pregnant and an emotional wreck anyway😂 time to get ready for work…oh the joys

My daughter got officially diagnosed this week! Going to apply for an EHCP now, luckily her nursery are doing most of the application as they will know what to do more than me. Her nursery is attached to a primary school and the school SENco said she has been spending time with my daughter and that she should definitely try mainstream school. I do agree with her, so hopefully with some support she can really thrive! She doesn’t start school until September 25, so we’ve still got a decent amount of time to apply for EHCP and any possible remediation etc as I know people say they are very hard to get! Which just shouldn’t the case.

my sons EHCP was relatively straight forward luckily, so hope yours is too! X

Does anyone know when and how you apply for Sen/Sen unit schools?

EHCP is finalised and my daughter has another year in preschool but I've only ever applied for mainstream school with my previous kids and not knowing the process for SEN schools is stressing me out

The senco at my sons school and his sen caseworker put in his application if that’s any help?

Is that usually how it's done? Can I ask what month you find out? I know it's earlier than the mainstream schools
Usually a school is chosen and agreed by mid feb, have a look for tours already and make sure you check out all types, resource provision really surprised me in a good way!

Has anyone had their child’s ECHP application accepted at the first try? Did you apply yourself or was it your child’s nursery/school?
My daughter’s nursery are getting everything ready to apply end of this month (she starts school September 25).
I just keep hearing that everyone seems to be rejected at the first application!
We are based in Essex.

My sons process started Feb last year through nursery and was completed by July just before the summer holidays! He’s now got a SEN place for September. I think it’s really hit and miss with them as I hear a lot of people getting rejected but we must of been really lucky, just make sure you gather as much evidence as possible and push through any barrier they put your way! Good luck 🥰

We had ours accepted on the first try. The nursery submitted it for us with help from the local SEN coordinator. They submitted the EHCNa in December and we had the final draft of his EHCP by April. He’s got an ASD base place for when he starts school in September. I was prepared to have to appeal the decision and fight but we’ve been so lucky with it all.
I would echo the above advice, gather as much evidence as possible including any medical diagnosis and SALT/OT reports and make sure you are happy with the draft applications so they are a true reflection of your child’s needs. It can be hard to read but it has to focus on all the areas they struggle with and everything they can’t do.

Ours was accepted first try but I genuinely believe it's because we had a private Educational Psychologist report which stated that an EHCP would be needed. So, they couldn't really refute that. We also had a report from our private SLT.

We applied in October and it was finalised in April.

Thanks for all your replies! That’s good to know you all seem to have it accepted first try!
Senco at the nursery have been amazing getting it all together and they got their SEND inclusion partner to observe her last week so now have that report too, we have the following evidence to submit;

Official ASD & GDD diagnosis
SEND inclusion partner observation report
Private S&L therapist EHCP report
Section 23
Nursery report
One Plan

There might be something else that I’ve forgotten, as the Senco has kindly sorted it all out for me! Really hope they accept it and we don’t have a fight on our hands, surely with all the above evidence it’s clear my daughter needs support with her education!

I'd say that you have enough evidence! Good luck! There are also loads of EHCP support groups on Facebook which are an absolute god send

With all of those reports to submit you’ve got a great chance of getting it accepted first time, good luck!

This is brilliant, seems like numbers will be her forte now, my son is exactly the same he’s 4 in August he isn’t conversational but he can count to 30 and do the alphabet forwards and backwards, he blows my mind some days. 🤩 I can understand your proud mum moment 💕
