Zoom job interview

Help I’ve got a zoom job interview in a few days, there’s going to be four people on it interviewing me. I’ve never had an interview like this before, anyone got any advice?!!!

Personally I would dress as if you were going to an interview in person. Try to ensure anyone you live with is aware that you're going to be on the zoom interview so they don't say anything in the background/play any loud music etc. Stay focused on looking at the screen, don't get distracted by things going on around you (ie: try not to keep looking away from the camera). You want to seem like you're entirely focused on them, just as you would be in a regular interview.

Most importantly though just be yourself! Smile, be polite etc. Good luck!!

Keep your phone off. Join the call 5 mins early in case you have problems getting in (and leaving them waiting). Look up at the screen. Have pen, paper, notes nearby in case you need to use them.

I recently got hired and both interviews were over zoom. Good advice has already been given, dress for the occasion as you would any interview, maintain eye contact and ensure you’re not interrupted. Best of luck

I had a job interview and a university interview via Zoom, in my experience the people were really lovely and understanding when mid-way through the call my camera stopped working probably due to connection issues. I got in a flap but they were not bothered at all. I chose to have a blank background, just felt it looked better than bits in the background.
I found that just by being engaged in the interview, made it so that I wasn't distracted by what was going on around me etc.
Good luck!

My advice would be to make eye contact by looking into the camera as you're speaking, not looking at yourself on the screen!

Try and find a comfortable set up with a pleasant background (check you don't have a dildo on your bookcase) and minimise the possibility of disturbances.

Dress as you would for a regular interview. Ideally wear headphones with a mic to reduce feedback or echo. Remember to smile! Good luck. 🤞🏼😊

I also got a role in lockdown via zoom. Use things you can to your advantage, it can be easier to use any notes about key experiences and anything technical you need.

I’m been conducting interviews via zoom. Dress like you would an interview, make sure you’re in a clean/smart/not busy part of the house, eye contact (it’s so easy to look at the screen and not the camera!) pen, paper and a glass of water! Lastly, just relax! It’s a funny set up but once you’re on and feels like a normal interview - good luck!!!

Don't be tempted to download a clever Zoom background - just stick to a plain wall in your house. Don't have anything on display in the background that might be distracting, and make sure the door to the room you'll be connecting from is kept closed.

If you have others living with you it might be a good idea to ask if they can refrain from streaming movies at the same time, so that you have plenty of bandwidth. I guess it depends on your internet package etc, but if you think you might have speed issues, it’s something you can consider, and on the plus side would be less distracting :)

Good luck!

My current job was a zoom interview as it was for a job abroad, I was so nervous but it all went fine.
I would dress as if you were going to an in person interview, make sure there are no distractions like someone else in the house that could walk in to the room or make noise during it.
Make sure your laptop has enough charge your speakers and camera works etc

I have done a zoom interview and I well preferred it! I had all my notes around so when I saw they were writing I could look down at my notes! Dress like you would if it were in person. Be prepared!

Have to say I don’t necessarily agree with the look at the camera tip. Everyone looks at the screen and it looks like you’re looking at the person anyway? I would’ve found it really hard to look at the camera because you can’t get facial cues from the interviewer.

That’s a good point! My boss looks into the camera when he video calls me and honestly it’s creepy as duck 😂

Don’t know if you’ve had the interview yet @cushtybert but hope it goes/went well! X
