I’m hoping someone can help me with a question please? I have reached out to several fashion companies to ask the information I need but they haven’t responded.

So, my female main character is a fashion student at London metropolitan. Her goal is owning a fashion company. She is approached by a fashion brand asking if she wants to collaborate.
My questions are: would she receive a percentage of sales? If so what percentage? Or would it be a one off lump sum payment. Thank you

It’s your book - you decide! What option would make for the best story line?

stupid question but have you googled it? I found out how much influencers make per post by a quick google search so it might give you a ballpark answer

I didn’t want to class her as an influencer, but she does have a high following due to her own fashion designs. Would she be classed as one if she collaborated with another brand?
She would be designing the outfits but the company would be the ones who make them, that’s why I wasn’t sure on the payments.

I would say so yeah. A lot of influencers collaborate with brands and help design them. I'm not sure how common it is in the normal world, but I'm a dancer (hence the username) and it is very common for well known dancers (within the dance community and would be classed as influencers if youre into dance) to collaborate with a dance wear brand and help design it. Some kids as young as 12 have done it. It's the company's clothes but it's usually like *company name X dancer name*.

I'll send you an example

^ Disclaimer, she is a child (the little girl in the picture is her) and it is her collection but she was on a famous TV show in America for dance (World of dance, see here - ) so I feel like it's okay to use her as an example as she would be known to non dancer people. I wouldn't normally use a child as an example.
Also brings up another topic of why dancewear has to look like that but not relevant here!!

This is very helpful, thank you.
So, for example, she could be paid a set amount for promotion on her social media (dependent on follower count) and then maybe she’s given a discount code affiliate link to share with her followers and she gets the commission from that as payment?

Ah, I just assumed you were an Abba fan 😉 doctor who fan here, hence my name.

yeah so cause she's made her own brand I assume she gets paid to help create it and model it and then she gets a discount code which like you said she'll earn money from whenever someone uses it

I wouldn’t overthink it or go into too much detail in all honesty. I’m guessing it’s a lighthearted fiction.
