My husband is having all 4 removed tomorrow morning due to impaction and has no idea what to expect and neither of us know anyone who has had it done

If you have please could you share your experiences. I assume he's going to need some time off work but no idea how long is usually expected for this? And I assume things like eating will be hard too

I've also gotten all of mine removed at once.
I was a uni student at the time and was signed off for the day itself and the next day. Depending on occupation, they sign you off longer because you aren't allowed to work on some of the pain medication, so this might be worth clarifying.

I did have a pretty miserable time, sorry to put it like that, but the majority of pain and discomfort was not actually from the wisdom teeth itself, but rather because they managed to sew my cheek onto the "hole" where the teeth were, that was incredibly painful. It got better at once when the threads were removed, but until then, I relied heavily on Ibuprofene 800 and cooling packs.
There will probably be swelling, which the ice packs are nice for, but if it's excessive, better get it looked at again, I was cautioned that if I develop fever or suddenly a lot more swelling I should go back in.

Eating isn't fun for a few days - I wasn't able to really open my mouth, but I think that was mostly because of the botched job sewing me up. Make sure to have very soft foods. I ate a ton of baby purees, but that's no hardship, I love them. Plus soup and ice.

Don't want to alarm you and add that I have a very slow healing process, plus tend to get swelling easily, so it might be a lot better for your husband. My partner didn't get all of them removed at once, just two, and said apart from taking one pain killer and eating soft food for two days, he was totally fine and hardly noticed anything after the surgery.

I have had one wisdom tooth removed, but have been putting off removing the others for four years + now.

I haven't had any issues, which meant I could faff about with ignoring it. I know it needs to be done eventually though. So my appointment for removal is this Thursday. My dentist who I saw last week, referred me to an oral surgeon. I've only ever had one removed at once, but it still healed and I was pain free after 10 days last time with over the counter medication.

My friend who had hers removed the week before me did need to go back for additional steroids and antibiotics. So do go back if you are having problems.

No gym within the first 4 days is a must. Up to 10 days total rest time. You're not supposed to use a straw either.

You could buy him protein shakes as eating will be hard.

Even though he's still down for four- It might also be easier to do the removals one by one.

I had all 4 removed under general anaesthetic due to impaction about 4 years ago. It was done by an oral surgeon. It was completely fine. I took the painkillers and antibiotics as prescribed and had literally not one second of pain. Did have chipmunk cheeks for a day or two after! Only hassle was eating a soft diet for a week or two after. Work wise, it depends whether his work is physical or not but I was up the next day and felt fine once the GA was out of my system.
