Theatreboard has gone crazy and had to close the thread because people were saying how terrible/unprofessional it was that she dropped out and were being very mean spirited about it.
No-one had bought a ticket yet, it was a year in advance and it is clearly for the good of her health!

I enjoyed Paddington more than I was expecting to, I thought the bear was very well done and the cast were great. I wouldn’t pay £100 to see it again however, but am grudgingly recommending it to others.
Was also lucky enough to see JCS last night for the first preview, Sam Ryder lived up to the hype and there were some other great performances too from Pilate and Simon particularly. I’m doing the on-stage standing next month and looking forward to being right in the midst of things, from what I could see one side gets a much better view than the other and some of the standees clearly hasn’t read the instructions about wearing dark clothing, one turned up in an England football shirt which was really distracting and he was reportedly made to stand at the back for the second half. Hopefully they’ll sort this out for the next performances and not let people on stage if they can’t follow the dress code.

I so detest online theatre fandom.
You've got theatreboard where they will moderate you to oblivion and you can't talk about anything even if cast/creatives have put it on their own socials, and also the self appointed forum police who have decided when you simply can't not like a show, like that weirdo ceebee in the Starlight thread...
Then you've got the Musical Theatre Appreciation Society on Facebook and oh my gosh. There was the most benign critique of Oliver! ever but the poster was instantly set upon for being mean and hurtful to the cast. All they really said was Nancy belts too much and that Bill Sykes looks dfferent to how he usually does, that was it. The reaction was ridiculous, absurd. People need to understand that you cannot turn the internet into your own personal hugbox or play nanny to a bunch of strangers who, if they can't stop googling themselves, need to take responsibility for their own well being. Be kind? Yes. I would not want to see anyone torn into or humiliated when they are a working professional doing their best... but I don't really ever see that kind of critique anymore so I don't know why these melts freak out just because person A disliked something person B enjoyed. Also, this is the same place where I've witnessed in real time them bully an austistic poster because as much as they fawn over William Fairchild (in a way I find quite patronizing, honestly), they will happy make fun of others.
You can't really have actual, real discussions about the arts anymore. It's always "but people worked hard on this" or "be kinnnnnd" and it's a shame.

Yeah, like someone having a go because they said Jodie kept messing her lines up… like totally understandable, she had hours to learn the role but people paid like £70+ to see a musical not Jodie…. it’s not right. I would be fuming!

Jings she's still superb. To paraphrase a football reference -- form is temporary, class is permanent.
It will have made a nice change to have someone with talent on BGT.
And I know I'm being judgy, but how the hell can KSI, Amanda, Alesha or even Simon "judge" Shani Wallace. What tips could they give her!!!
And I can understand why this didn't make the main show. An absolute star, even in her 90s, compared to the dross that fills that show.
And they can't put her through to the live shows - she'd walk it!!!

to be honest I fast forwarded through pretty much all apart from The Producers (which wasnt a patch on seeing it for real). But it I live in London and go to theatre a lot (round about once a week, last week John Proctor is the Villain - amazing... next week Waitress but dreading it)... because I live in London nd live with theatre mad adult kids, and theatre is part of my life, I don't need a show like that to get me excited about shows, but those who don't live in London could be reminded by shows like this to get out any buy tickets, to have a look at tours in their local theatre etc (and that is a good thing) - I just think that as it is National Lottery night of musicals - there should be a National Lottery discount/lottery/sponsored night scheme that makes prices more accessible.
Living in London means I can go on the cheap, seat filling sites, getting in early and booking from mailing lists, or booking last minute and also my husband and daughter have access needs that get us a discount. If you live in Swindon, it costs a fortune to book in advance, pay for trains, meals out and maybe a hotel in London or Birmingham... most people would rather go on holiday... National Lottery should be making it easier for people to go as well as advertising what is out there

Yeah a concert and a full musical production are two very different things.
The 'you paid to see legally blonde, you got legally blonde' argument doesnt work as you literally didnt get the full Legally Blonde. You got a strip backed, under rehearsed, concert version. Not a fully staged musical production.
They are two different things, as we can see all the time in the west end with all the concert versions of shows. That's why they shove 'in concert' after the title.
I assume its the producers stopping refunding as the theatres themselves will be getting a lot of flack and losing important good will.

Seeing LOJ next week & didn’t actually spend a fortune on the ticket. Meaning I’m up in the gods & right at the back but still in the room where it happens, right?

Rob’s parents are an absolute dream, their support is what made that show for me! i cried purely for any child that needs that love and support of who they are when i saw the show
it’s not a masterpiece but it’s a fun couple of hours where you see possibly one of the luckiest childhoods simply because his entire family encouraged them to be themselves

I'm interested that at the bottom of the poster it says "songS from the motion picture by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley" so to me that implies they've recognised the error of the stage show and may be putting more than just Pure Imagination in it? I remember being so pissed off that there was no Candyman, Golden Ticket, or Oompa Loompa song in the stage version. Hope they have, and not just musical interludes echoing the classic songs.

You have to feel for the staff at the sunderland empire as they have lost shifts due the incompetence of the Burlesque producers. Just call the whole thing off now. Least trainspotting the musical did the decent thing & canned the tour months in advance.

Why Am I So Single is the worst story I’ve ever seen on stage.
The problem was they decided to go with a plot that was entirely autobiographical (“isn’t it hard that we became ultra wealthy celebs really young, the fact we’re so rich we never need to work again has isolated us from peers and potential romantic partners, and our second show be a West End commission is a lot of pressure”).
Which could maybe work but they made the decision to make the characters that are literally supposed to be themselves working class and northern/Scottish, but with no attempt to understand those cultures or how isolating a sudden massive lifestyle change and wealth jump can be, and how wealth doesn’t necessarily equate to social mobility. It’s such a weird show.
