Waitrose food & drink

Got the Waitrose jarred, spicy pineapple salsa to try, it is really very spicy, lovely. It’s got pineapple obvs, with lime and spices, green pepper, onion and jalapeño chilli flakes. Had it with some wings and spicy rice. Think it’s going to be delicious on tacos and fajitas. Never noticed it before, pleasantly surprised.

Maybe this thread will be reinvigorated after recent promo on the M&S thread, where many are saying they find Waitrose rewards better than M&S Sparks. I for one am now doing a main shop at Waitrose as I appreciate the money-off coupons for regular items, and little freebies.

Yes I hope so, some people are funny when you mention Waitrose, lot of people assume it’s very over priced, but they do say they price match and I think their Essentials range is fantastic. I used to do my main food shop in Marks, and get certain stuff like N.irish bread etc. in Waitrose, but now I get my big shop in Waitrose and just pick up a few staples (and new fun things in Marks). Personally I find the Co and Sainsbury’s dearer.I do check prices though for certain things, and today Tesco was best value for the branded frozen fish I wanted. Just got to shop around.Marks has got dearer, but certain stuff has gone way down hill, so I just have found myself replicating and batching.I think Waitrose is much more pleasant to shop in, wider aisles, great scan and go (marks has a stupid £45 limit) , but I do think Marks has better Customer Service. In Waitrose , I have never been particularly fond of the Customer Service from the “Partners” side of things, it’s never been great, but still prefer to shop there.

I'm hoping to get to Waitrose soon, as one of my goals this year was sourcing healthier food. A lot of the time the good stuff has been in Waitrose.
I was in Marks and Spencer's the other day and only ended up spending £15 as too many things had not very good ingredients.
I object to paying more and still finding such ingredients in the products. I might as well have shopped at a cheaper supermarket.
Even when I buy basic stuff like eggs I've been shocked to find the egg white pouring out like water when the egg's been broken.
I did some baking today and wasn't very successful like I normally am. So I need to find better products.

I don't know if anyone here is a Caffè Nero app user but if you've a Waitrose card, you get 25% off seasonal items and a free coffee on your first purchase. Now it might be teaching your Nana to suck eggs but it's good to know. I highly recommend the honey pecan oat latte, if anyone needs a suggestion.

I am still terrified of the Oat Milk I bought, (was banging on about it on the other thread), I saw someone say you can get oat milk coffee in the machine at Waitrose so am going to get it when I’m next in. This drink sounds so nice(the honey pecan) and I am going to get that too. I really want to like it, honestly don’t know why I’m so scared of it ,I’m such a d*** 🙈

It was me who said about the oat milk in the coffee machine, but I don’t know if it’s every Waitrose - I saw it in Thame, but the other two I go to only have cows milk.

I’m going to check it out, normally I just grab cappuccino and don’t even look. at least if cafe Nero does it, I now know what to ask for, (I do have a million and one things to worry about, like everyone else) but I just have a bee in my bonnet over this, adjustments are hard when you are set in your ways.

Would it be on their website?
Or maybe you can contact them online to ask?

I’ve got to pop in to get my free treats, so will see then. Also someone else said they had tried every oat milk under the sun and Waitrose long life oat milk was “elite” for even cereals etc . So I’m going to look for it. I have to find something for my health, but I also want an alternative “morally” that won’t break the bank, and is easily accessible. I’m actually very excited about the honey pecan in neros 🤞it may get me over the fear (twit)

Went in today and, alas! the machine was cows milk. Caffè Nero it is for me then 🤞. met some nice people hovering around the (free treat posh pop).I settled on the raspberry lemonade. There was some mocktail ones that looked good, pink grapefruit and a mojito type one. met the same people at the crumpets 😆 On a negative note, the “partner” at scan and go was totally unhelpful. I do wonder sometimes if the staff are actually being paid (especially after that bit of publicity they had when they wouldn’t give a job to someone who who had been volunteering there for ages) Also bought the hot chicken tikka masala (it’s not hot, but really delicious), I normally go for a madras, but the better half wanted it.we had it on Friday and I bought another 2 for the freezer today. I also like you can cook their curries and rice from frozen.

We’ve been getting Waitrose delivery for weekly food shops for about a year now & we do eat healthier, I tend to buy their own brand cupboard items. 3 for £12 on meat always good quality. Drivers lovely to o & help unpack/bring in the house not had that with Sainsbury’s. We don’t tend to do top ups in the week for some reason

Love Waitrose - I make a game of going every Friday after the gym to get whatever ‘treat’ food is on offer. The other week I got a big bottle of Innocent apple juice (free for hitting a spend threshold in the Waitrose app), a pack of chicken thighs & a pack of 4 kiwis (both yellow sticker), a bottle of coconut water (free with Checkout Smart app), and a pint of posh organic milk (no discount, I was just feeling fancy), and I effectively paid £3.70!

I love the Torres crisps they do, can usually only find them in posh delis, and the San Nicasio crisps are even better as they don’t have seed oils in.

The Ottolenghi miso pesto, and pomegranate, rose & lemon harissa paste are divine and often on offer. Also Ottolenghi ice cream is lush.

Tom Parker chocolate milk - oh my! A great weekend breakfast treat.

Not usually on offer but SO GOOD I don’t care - Waitrose raspberry yum yums 😋

The Bonne Maman sweet & crunchy peanut butter is lush - my new fave snack is sliced apple with a layer of PB on top.

The Waitrose app is great as it saves everything you buy in its Favourites list, and you can see at a glance what’s on offer.

Also strong recommend for Checkout Smart and Shopmium apps as they frequently have cashback offers (usually 50% off but sometimes 100%!), you just filter by supermarket. The Trolley app is also good for seeing what’s on offer in different supermarkets, just save your favourite items in a list.

I really wish they would do a '3 recipes with' for their pastes. I get put off buying these things because I don't want to eat the same thing multiple times but then the product goes off because it's been opened and not used.

I saw a bloke road testing their cafe. He was bowled over by the sausage roll he had and wanted to buy another one from the deli counter afterwards.
He also wanted to order the Welsh rarebit again. I think I'd like to try that in the cafe next time I go.😋

The harissa paste is a dream - blob it into pasta with some Greek yog to make a creamy but spicy sauce, stir it into tuna salad for same, or brush it onto chicken thighs and sling in the air fryer are just a few things I do.

I love their own brand essentials , I always buy the tinned potatoes, brilliant for curries, Bombay potatoes, soup maker. I got a tin of the sliced Granny Smith apples to have as they have good reviews, not too much sugar etc, saying great for a crumble, apple sauce. I always have leftover store bought puff pastry and am partial to an apple turnover so am looking forward to trying. There was only one on the shelf, so am assuming it’s popular. £1.20 worth a go.

That sausage roll looked delicious, (there is a Gary Eats thread on here as well) although not everyone is a fan 🙈
