Very brittle/breaking nails.

As the title says, my nails are literally crumbling at this point. Everyday they're breaking off and tearing in places and they have a lot of lines across them.
It's not good they look so weird and I'm someone who loves to look nice so this is devastating.
It's also a cause for concern, now it could be due to work (a lot of water and bleach) or maybe a medical issue.

I thought maybe it's a lack of calcium. My diet is pretty shocking lately due to tiredness, which in itself is a symptom of calcium deficiency. (but also very early mornings!)
Anyone have any experience with this? I thought about maybe trying calcium supplements for a while but I'm unsure.

My nails are like this, it’s a hereditary thing for me. I’ve tried everything but I do find that nailtiques 2 and 2+ gave me rock hard nails. I usual have acrylics but when I take a break I use this and get really strong and long nails.

I would also look at sea kelp and collegean supplements.

Definitely get yourself checked out, I know someone who had the exact same issue and she has an underlying condition that was causing it (really unhelpful I know but I don't remember what it was, sorry). If your nails are just brittle though you could try a builder gel overlay, that would protect them from bleach etc and help them grow stronger, my nails are really thin and basically just snap off if I don't have builder on and I swear by it now

I have increased my water intake and now have a fragrance free hand cream next to my laptop at my working from home station. Really noticed a huge difference at how strong they are after a few weeks x

Other than me and my mum everyone in my family has super strong nails. My sister grow hers longer than when I wear false nails and I like them XXL 😅 So I definitely think it's just something causing it (hopefully)

I'll definitely check those out.

Could be a fungal infection?
I always thought fungal infections were limited to one nail at a time (generally) but idk I've never had one before.
It's worth looking into.

Oh god 😂
I'll see if I can get checked out, they're literally just falling to pieces I've popped some false nails over the top which probably not the best idea!
I'll get a builder gel overlay for sure, if it protects from bleach too that's just an extra bonus as I'm not sure if my nail issues could be associated with the bleach. Thank you.

Drinking more water can't hurt so it's a good start! I'd not be surprised if I'm a tad dehydrated. The skin on my hands is super dry too so I've been using a lot of hand cream lately.

do you have Evelin in the UK? their 8+1 nail polish is a miracle
Ohh nice I just had a look and they sell it on amazon! I'm sure I have seen it before in shops too.
I'll definitely give that a try too.

Thanks all for the suggestions, hopefully I'll see some results.

Have you had your thyroid checked? I have the same issue and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. My doctor usually checks my nails every appointment. My medication for that has improved my nails somewhat thus far.

Get checked by a GP just to rule anything out.
I used to have terrible nails and found taking zinc and biotin did wonders. Making sure you pop hand cream on minimum twice a day works wonders too. ❤

My nails dry out really easily so I always wear gloves for cleaning, if I put my hands in bleach regularly my nails would snap as well. Wearing gloves and moisturising has made a huge difference

My nails were like this in the Autumn. Crumbling, splitting and I started taking biotin which helped a lot. My nails are looking great and are strong again. Hair and skin not so unfortunately

Mine were similar when my iron levels were extremely low. I didn't realise until i started having IV iron infusions when my nails became stronger. X

Hadn't thought of that, had issues with it a while back was quite low but went back to normal. Worth checking, had no idea it effected nails but it seems to effect everything 😭 Thank you! I'll definitely get it checked out.

I definitely will! Oh I've been going mad with the hand cream. 😅 I'll try those and see if it helps at all.
Thank you.💕

Thankfully my hair and skin aren't too bad, minus my crusty hands but that's from work. 😅 It's just my nails they're doing exactly the same it's awful. Never had issues with them until now!

Actually hate how many things it could possibly be! 😅 Never thought of iron either!
I'll definitely get myself booked in and hopefully I'll have some answers soon. Thank you!

I do wear gloves as often as possible but they're awful for my skin, they're not latex but I seem to have some sort of reaction to them so I sometimes don't bother. :( I'll maybe try not to use as much bleach, at least not with anything I'll be using my hands for. I can live without it, it's not worth wrecking my nails over. Thank you!
