Vertigo

So, I think I might have had a bout of this last night.
I work on the 4th floor of a large building and the floor by the lift usually makes me feel a bit woozy, hard to explain but it has this weird shaky vibe. Anyway, I got home last night and felt odd. Sort of off balance, if I closed my eyes it was massively worse and I could feel myself spinning. When I opened my eyes I couldn't focus properly on one thing.
I thought I had a sickness bug but nothing came of that. It was horrible though and nothing I've had before.

I had my 2nd astra vaccine 3 weeks ago and wondered if it was down to that. My husband suggested vertigo or an ear infection.

I feel fine this morning touch wood. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Do you have any advice on how to manage it?

Yes, I've had similar. Often when I'm laid in bed and roll from one side to the other. Always put it down to my ears and I also get tinnitus.

I doubt it's do do with the vaccine as I've had it for years.

Sounds like vertigo - I have had it a couple of times and comes out of no where. If it continues I'd see the doctor to rule out an ear infection plus they may be able to give you anti-sickness meds

I get this and suffered constantly after injuring my head. I was given tablets which didn't work. Saw so many doctors over this and ENT who weren't helpful. I was told (as usual) its anxiety. I was fine until I fell.

Oh gosh, sorry to hear you had a head injury.

I haven't felt it today, although I am a bit concerned it might happen again.

I get it often, linked with my sinuses. Its horrid! Nothing to do with heights though. When mine is really bad, I get antisickness meds from my GP. I dont know how effective they actually are, i think its more a placebo but i wouldnt be without them

Thank you, I'm definitely going to keep an eye on it and if it happens again I'll ring the GP and see if I can have a chat with someone. Great news you have some meds that can take the edge off for you x

I am a regular vertigo sufferer. My current bout has been going on for about 2 months. A good way to check is to close your eyes, put your arms out in front of you and march on the spot for 30 seconds (with eyes closed and arms out). If, when you open your eyes, you're facing a completely different direction, you have vertigo/inner ear problem.

Have you ever had your ears checked for wax build-up? It sometimes helps to have them suctioned or syringed if it's compacted.

Maybe try the valsalva technique.

I haven't had my ears checked no, my husband did mention it might be ear related. Can you still get ears syringed? For some reason I thought it wasn't available anymore.

I am off to Google the valsalva technique.

I last had my ears syringed at the GP in late 2019 so yes, they definitely still do it but not sure how things are with Covid. I had them suctioned at the hospital a couple of years before that and I preferred it to syringing, but they're both over very quickly. For valsalva, imagine you're blowing up a balloon but keep your mouth closed and hold your nose. The aim is to try and increase the pressure in your eustachian tubes. I hope you feel better very soon!

I suffer with awful vertigo, but only for very short periods of time.
I always wake up with the vertigo and I can’t walk as I’m literally stumbling all over the place and I also end being sick because of the spinning motion. If I close my eyes when stood up, I’d fall over and if I try and tilt my head down, lll also fall over. It usually lasts two to three days.

I’ve been having tests (MRI, hearing tests etc) and they’ve now decided I have vestibular migraines. So I get migraines a lot, but sometimes, instead of getting the head pain, I get the vertigo. I have to take medication for it.

Vertigo can be caused by so many different things though, if it persists then contact your doctor.
