Thank god I thought he’d just stepped out of a prison van

Just seen the news about more cost and more delay for the high speed 2.

I've been repulsed by this project since conception, it was always too expensive and was always going to take too long but we are still here and now more millions of pounds and another ten years has been added on to the finish line.

This is the most blatant corruption I've ever seen but it's allowed to just keep chugging on, no matter what government we have in charge be it Labour or Conservatives.

It repulses me on the most visceral level and I do think we need upgraded/improve railway infastracture. As always, tptb got it completely wrong!

Have all the Labour MPs and ministers that are posting celebratory comments about Burnham being selected for Makerfield, forgotten that Makerfield was a Labour seat already and there was no need for this fiasco? Absolutely bizarre.

Oh god how much taxpayer money has been spaffed on Gemma Collins now. Is she there for an almighty breakfast club? Cringe.

It is now only envisaged that HS2 runs as far as Birmingham, when it weas originally designed to go up to the North West of England?

It was due to run to Manchester but some months ago it was reported to have been scrapped, now it will just run as far as Birmingham. Woooo-hooo Brummies can get to London 20 minutes sooner, all for £100 million and counting.

If the line from Birmingham to Manchester has been scrapped, why wasn't the present Mayor of Greater Manchester banging the drum for the North West and demanding it run to his city? Ehhh Burnham, where were you? Ey Ey Ey?

When you ask yourself why the country feels upside down and inside out, this comes along and things make a bit more sense

Making you even more mad about HS2 and the scrapping of the second lines. Many properties and building were compulsory bought for the laying of the line.

Now that it is not happening it can be developed and those with a stake will make millions, building high rises on the sites.

Heidi Alexander in the HoC having a pop at the Tories re HS2, when it was originally floated, originated and given the go ahead by the Brown Labour government in 2009. Another own goal and they blame others for continuing with their policies and plans.

It’s going absolutely marvellously for him so far.
Reform’s vetting going as well as usual. Where do they dig these people up from?

Yes it was Lord Adonis (Labour Party) who did all the work to get HS2 started. the Conservatives just rubber stamped the Labour Party plans in the same way that nearly everything the Labour Government has announced in the last two years have been Conservative projects. That's how it goes with massive infrastructure stuff.

I don’t get how they have managed to fuck this up in such epic proportions. It’s taken decades it feels, it costs a ridiculous amount of money and it’s only for a relatively piddly part of track. It’s a national embarrassment. It’s only going to take you to Birmingham and no one needs to travel to Birmingham that fast.

I think they made a conscious choice for this guy. They saw Rupert Lowe throw his towel in the ring and they were like "He's gonna nick our fascist vote! Who have we got who's local and just as repellent as him?".

If Tommy Robinson instead had said like he did in one interview :

"I will end Judaism. It's time for many Jews to go home. "

Would it be unreasonable for a Jewish person to also feel unsafe?

This isn't just political commentary; it's incitement and call for the destruction of a religion. If Jewish people would be entirely justified in feeling targeted, fearing for their safety, and believing that the state had failed to protect them why would a Muslim not?

One of my best friends who is a Sri lankan GP and Hindu also feels unsafe after the Tommy Robinson march. Will anyone stop to specifically ask if she is even Muslim when she is automatically marked as an "outsider" anyway .

I wonder how many Tattlers chipped in.

"Right up until the “Unite the Kingdom” rally, supporters were still receiving fundraising emails tied to that UK operation."

Also from 2024:

The Times previously reported that Robinson and associates were linked to a network of companies that generated more than £1.6 million in profits while leaving substantial tax liabilities unpaid. Hope & Pride Ltd reportedly owed HMRC an estimated £317,000 in corporation tax. Freestyle Freelance Ltd, which traded as Urban Scoop, reportedly owed a further £10,750. Companies disappeared. New ones appeared.
