Given your age and irregular periods I think the GP would happy give you the blood test to check for ovulation. It’s two blood tests and really simple.Hi all, I'm new here and I don't know all the acronyms so forgive me for not using!
I have an almost 5 year old, who we were very lucky to conceive first time and based on a a bit of estimating about when I might be fertile.
We're now ready for a second child and as I'm a bit older (early 40s) with historically irregular periods, I've been using clearblue 4 or more fertile days tests for a couple of months now. I never get a static smiley. Ever.
I can get flashing smileys for 10+ days and I'd say after day 3 or 4 of getting flashing smileys I test in the morning and evening (slowly bankrupting me, but hey) still no static smiley.
This cycle I've also been tracking my BBT and on day 30 of my cycle I saw an upward shift in my BBT, nothing dramatic, but a shift from around what has been the region of 35.90-36.15 up to 36.30, and it has stayed in this higher region and is creeping up. Yesterday my temp was 36.41 and today it was 36.54. Today is day 35. For context most of my cycles usually last somewhere between 34-40 days (34-37 most commonly) though I have on occasions had cycles of 45 and even 53 days.
My period tracker/fertility app had previously estimated my fertile period to be around days 22-25 based on previous cycles but since inputting the two higher bbt readings it's now saying ovulation was likely yesterday!
We haven't been having sex this past week (since day 26 or so) as we assumed the time had passed for this month.
According to previous months I would be expecting my period this weekend or Monday. But the app saying ovulation was likely yesterday is throwing me. Could this be one of my really long cycles?
Or is the app discounting the slight creep up to 36.30? I had considered this although a small rise, still a rise based on the previous numbers I was seeing. But it seems to be honing in on the larger jump to 36.41 and 36.54 as more significant.
I'm going to take a pregnancy test this weekend and hoping to see positive.
Arghhh
Apps are handy but flawed. I’d consider trying some cheaper ovulation tests and pre-mom app then going for the clear blue in conjunction when it’s looking close but mostly just having sex every other day when you see it rising. Trying to catch exact ovulation is tricky whereas if the sperm is there waiting, you’ve got more chance.
(eta no shade on age, had my second at 42 just the doctors seem quicker to act if you say you’re worried about peri-menopause etc)
