Hi all,
Across the various threads I frequent on tattle I’ve seen that many of us love a bit of True Crime whether that’s just discussing the cases and various theories or recommending documentaries/podcast.
Thought it would be good to start a thread rather than going so off topic on the others.
What is your favourite case? Can be solved or unsolved.

The Delphi murders really gets me as well! I wish they could find out who it was. Sadly I don’t think we will ever find out 
I always find the Manson murders so scary, I read the Helter Skelter book by the prosecutor which was really good.
The Zodiac Killer. Always freaks me out about the couple who were somewhere having a picnic and he killed them. You always think your safe when you’re in a pair but clearly not. Another one we will never find out.
I watch Youtubers like Kendall Rae, Eleanor Neale, Stephanie Harlowe & Bailey Sarian who cover loads of cases I’ve never heard of.
I watched the Netflix series about Richard Ramirez and let me tell you that is not a good idea when you spend most of the week living on your own

I watch a lot of true crime and I recommend an episode of In Cold Blood - The chris lane story (on you tube).
Chris was from melbourne (up the road from my MiL) and moved to oklahoma after gettting a baseball scholarship. He had met a really nice girl and was all set for a bright future.
One morning he went out for a run and was murdered in a 'just for kicks' drive by shooting. There was no beef or altercation, they saw him in the distance running and just shot him from behind as they drove past him.
They eventually caught the boys who got 25 years. Chris' parents and three sisters and girlfriend feature in the documentury as do some local residents who tried and failed to save chris. The parents of one of the killers are also interviewed. Its just one of those docs that leaves you completely winded and asking yourself, wth is the world coming too.

Anyone watching The Cecil Hotel/Elisa Lam series on Netflix? I'd never heard of the case, it's a weird one with lots of twists and turns, I would recommend giving it a watch.

Really into these types of cases too, I think a lot of the more interesting cases are older because they could get away with things a lot longer.
I really like learning about the older UK cases the most though, Fred & Rose West, the Moors Murders.
On YouTube they have every episode of Crimes That Shook Britain and it is basically my go to show when I am cleaning or working and need something to listen to.

A few cases I feel most invested in -
Jodi Huisentruit - missing anchor woman who worked for a local news station in Iowa. Was abducted outside her apartment in 1995; never been found. Highly recommend the Finding Jodi podcast.
The Springfield Three - three woman (a mother, daughter and daughter's friend) vanished from a house in Missouri in the middle of the night in 1992, never to be seen again. I have lost sleep over this case.
EARONS - Solved now, but I think there is still so much we will find out about him. The 'I'm gonna kill you' phone call recording is absolutely terrifying.
Andrew Gosden - 14 year-old boy disappeared from Doncaster in 2007. Skipped school that day, took a train to London (CCTV confirming him arriving at King's Cross and not seen since.) I have my own thoughts on what I think happened with this, and I really hope to see it solved one day soon!
West Memphis Three - I really bought into their innocence after seeing all the Paradise Lost docs. I even bought Damian's book and was a bit of a fan girl for a time. However I've read extensively on the Callaghan site and I now think they were involved in it.

Have you watched The Vow? it was excellent I must say.
There's a great Audible podcast on Suzanne's case; Body of Proof I think it's called? it's worth taking the month free trial just to listen to it!

Wonderland Murders, Black Dahlia,Manson Murders and Dorothy Stratton. I'm really into the dark side of Hollywood or crimes set in that area. I'm also really interested in the Zodiac and Heavens Gate, Waco and Jonestown.

I really like Stephanie Harlowe. She's also just started a podcast called crime weekly which is pretty good. She has just covered the Jon Benet Ramsay case which I know a lot of people will have been over many times, but I enjoy Stephanie's take on things. Her YouTube channel is great also.
I sometimes have to take a bit of a break from watching and listening to these things as they scare me a bit! But at the same time it's fascinating.

There's a podcast called casefile that I started listening too during the first lockdown while wfh and its a new case each episode and goes through some ones I knew of and others I didn't but I really enjoy it!

I’ve just been listening on Audible to one of the West children’s books about the whole thing from her perspective (Mae).
It’s absolutely chilling to see from yet another angle how manipulative and sociopathic both Fred and Rose are / were. They could make their children really believe that they had genuine love for them, but in reality neither of them was capable of love for anyone at all, including each other.
Mae describes how, when the younger children were taken away by social services, Fred and Rose decided to pretend those children had never existed and resolved to start having more babies to replace them.
Rose liked little babies in a superficial way but lost all patience for them once they could walk.
Also, about the infamous note that Fred wrote to Rose before he killed himself in prison which appeared to some people to have been a love note. Mae says she thought that the note was written by Fred as an expression of mockery and that he meant to impress on Rose that he would still be controlling her after he had died.
Obviously, just knowing what these people did makes it obvious they were both monsters. But when you hear a perspective like this from one of their children it impresses even more how evil they are / were.

I have alot of Kendall Rae and Bailey Sarian (I just love her!) as said above they cover some obscure crimes I've never heard of.
I find the psychology behind child murderers the most fascinating. I picked up Colin Wilsons Mammoth Book of Crime when I was only about 11! And the first crime I ever read about was Jesse Harding Pomeroy. Also the case of the shark arm I took an interest to, I am interested in hearing about cases solved by a million to one chance.
Modern British cases, ones that have happened in the past 20 or so years to present.
Missing people I find fascinating.
I'm very new to Podcasts and don't know where to start at all! If someone can guide me to some good ones that correspond with the above?

Love true crime! Someone recommended a YouTube channel to me recently, 'JCS - Criminal Psychology'.
I've just watched the Jennifer Pan case and also the Casey Anthony case.
Highly recommend!

A few months ago I read ‘Happy Like Murderers’ about the Wests. At times it was very difficult to read but it certainly did provide some very interesting and previously unknown insight (on my part) into the minds of Fred and Rose. It’s completely bizarre and I feel so sad for all of their children - I can’t imagine how they came through such horrors. Apparently, Fred was always launching himself at his daughters and trying to grope them. They would push him away and he’d call them ‘lesbians’. He would also tell them that a woman’s first baby should always be their dad’s
Just so, so messed up. And to think that all this went undetected for so many years.

I listen to a lot of True Crime podcasts and the ones that pique my interest are usually unsolved missing persons cases. The two that have really held my interest are Marion Barter (The Lady Vanishes podcast) and Jennifer Kesse (detailed in a number of different podcasts).
Anyone else taken an interest in these two particular cases? Any theories?
Marion Barter is really fascinating case as it seems she may have been complicit in staging her own disappearance. The main theory seems to be that she fell for some con-man type who encouraged her to leave her old life behind and start a new one with him - only for him to then murder her. Other theories suggest that Marion is still alive but wants nothing to do with her family. It seems that there are no easy answers with this one - but the podcast is a really interesting listen!
