I don't think I'd consider Docs hipster either really. They're just a brand that seem to come and go every few years.

From my perspective a lot of the styles seem to be taken from the Beatnik folky types in New York in the 60's. (If you've ever seen Inside Lleywn Davis, it's a Hipsters wet dream)

Also the Cafe culture lifestyle which I still don't think is pulled off that well the UK.

They do certainly capture the air of arrogance well those with the 'You're in the scene, but I'm IN the scene' type attitudes.

And and to add: Pop up bars that are basically drinking dens for them and their friends. You can tell as soon as you walk in.

If you fancy a laugh find comedian Stephen Tries you tube account and look at “How to be a hipster”. It’s hilarious, and shows loads of the things mentioned on here. 🤣🤣

I wouldn’t say Doc Martens are hipster exclusive. Saying that, I have about 10 pairs 😂

Hipsters...

Men wearing beetle crusher shoes before they became mainstream

Accents - In Scotland, a hipster will have a very specific type of accent. For example, a Glasgow/West Coast hipster absolutely will have this bleeping accent that will make you claw your skin off. It’s a self indulgent, whiney entitled way of speaking. Usually associated with Glasgow University. Doesn’t matter if they come from places where everyone speaks like cast members of Rab C Nesbit these bleeps will still have their Americanised drawl 🙄🙄 Edinburgh, well the entire city is hipster land so...

Do hipsters in your areas have a specific accents/ way of speaking?

Coffee- my god. They love coffee. You will know but don’t bring any of your swill near them. only authentic sustainably sourced beans to their cups. I once popped through to our Edinburgh office and the folk in my team there had a full station with different presses and whatnot. Offered a smashing cup of fresh brew which was very kind. The office has a high hipster ratio though. In other offices it would be make your own Nescafé 😂

Messenger bags - men wearing them.

handlebar/ extravagant moustaches

Other than the accents I’m not slagging hipsters off. Plenty of my friends could be accused, probably myself/boyfriend with somethings.

Hahaha @Meh im in Scotland and last year visited a farmers market that was definitely ‘artisan’.
There was a coffee stall and the guys accent and entire ridiculous patter was so cringe inducing I ended up buying a £10 bag of ground coffee just to shut him up and get away.
Mr Ellis was crying with laughter saying he saw me coming.

I’d also say hipster was going gluten/dairy/food free (with no medical reason) and making it the focal point of every social interaction. Knew someone like that, it was beyond tedious. Needless to say I laughed a lot when they instagrammed a photo of a cream eclair.

Wearing old football shirts e.g a clubs shirt from 1989 - it just looks scruffy IMO

There was a story on my local news about a guy who had opened a coffee shop come plant shop come bike repair shop! All hipster bases covered there

I used to live down the road from here before all the hipsters gentrified it. I had a few beers there when I was already pissed and didn’t feel very welcome :/ I guess it’s because I don’t have the “got off the train from Cambridgeshire” vibes 😂
Yeah they are kind of curt there and I think there thing is to serve cocktails out of little teapots. That area around Deptford is quite gentrified from all the students I think. There is a craft beer place I like (I also have a fringe, a nose ring and wear doc martens and originally come from Cambridge hahaha).

I've never heard of the Glasgow posh accent lol is there an example out there?

I've heard the posh Edinburgh accent but that sounds quite nice.

I come from Deptford (moved now though but fam still there), wear docs, have a fringe too and have always wanted a nose ring 😂 don’t get me started on the Goldsmiths students. I remember this woman spray painted a piece of tit gold once and called it art. I’m not sure if I heard someone say it as a joke and I was little and didn’t get it or something along those lines but what in the pretentious duck is that.

I’ll stop derailing now sorry x
Haha oh modern art, all the hipsters definitely hang out at the Tate Modern 😂

Absolutely spot on @LittleMy

ANYONE who doesn’t know what the posh Glasgow accent is vs a (imo) normal west coast Scottish accent. Watch this video 😂 I’ll take Kevin Bridges type normal natural voice and accent anyway over the “top baaaaanteeeer” type weirdos.

I've heard the posh Edinburgh accent but that sounds quite nice.
I once asked a colleague to give me an example of a very “pleasant sounding Edinburgh accent” and she showed me a video of her friend speaking... who had maybe relocated from Cambridge. And didn’t have a Scottish accent at all 🙈

I'm from Edinburgh and I don't really think a "posh" Edinburgh accent really exists, it's just quite neutral. And if you came across one it'll be some hipster from south of the border that studied art history at Edinburgh Uni that thinks they're now from there 🥴. Much like the Glasgow uni kids, I can't stand that stupid fake Glasweigan accent!

Yep I came here to say just that. Pretty much covers everything doesn't it? I've added the link for those who haven't seen it.

Having lots of house plants that you call your ‘plant babies’ and talk about them a lot on social media, especially trying to share watering advice and repotting tips. I love plants too, and I guess it’s a nice hobby to have, but it just feels like quite a hipster fad when everyone’s doing the same as each other

Up cycling - It was trash before, just because you paint it baby blue doesn't make any difference.

To be fair though this market took off in the last few years and there's probably some insane profit margins
