As it's Valentine's Day, AKA the day after National Singles Day / National Single's Day / National Singles' Day, I've been rewatching series 4, the first series I watched and still my favourite. So many great characters, so many great moments and still so many screw-ups (ice cream exclusivity and kosher chickens being the best).
But my inner editor was surprised and delighted that when one team weren't sure where to put the apostrophe in their newly created 'celebration', they actually did some research, calling up The Telegraph editorial desk (lol) and the British Library. You'd never get that level of initiative these days, but also the candidates alluded to spending several hours trying to resolve this question — these days, they'd probably only get 30 minutes to create all the copy and do the design. The producers probably wouldn't let them check with anyone either.
Yet despite not being totally set up to fail, everything inevitably still went Pete Tong for at least one team each episode. Kevin and Jenny's 'celebrate saving the planet by sending a disposable card' being particularly ludicrous, and the way they got on their high horse in the pitch was perfectly cringeworthy.
